Anyone going to be watching?

OP posts:
Classica · 11/10/2021 13:09

@Franklin12

It’s every Sunday for 6 weeks which I don’t think is a good idea. Every night please!
A 6 parter? Hmmm, not sure it has the legs to maintain interest that long. I feel like Joanne Frogatt does these kinds of roles a lot. Hopefully the husband gets bumped off good and proper.
Jux · 11/10/2021 14:20

@Mantlemoose

Just watched it on catch up. The dead dog/fox in the gutter is annoying me. The block of a house with grey bifold doors is really twee. I am thinking it will have lots of twists and turns though so looking forward to next episode.
Twee? We have completely different understandings of that word! Grin For it conjures up quaint little cottage with roses round the door, white picket fence, wild flower and herb garden with lots of roses.....
butterpuffed · 11/10/2021 15:29

I think Ed is as untrustworthy as her husband.

MissyB1 · 11/10/2021 15:34

Tedious and predictable. Won’t be watching any more. The acting is terrible as well! Mind you I find she always plays every part she’s in the same way. Like she only has one character.

Medievalist · 11/10/2021 15:59

I really enjoyed it. Though I agree the lead female is so typecast.

Fairly certain it's a dead fox! Presumably just to add a hint of menace/unpleasantness?

Classica · 11/10/2021 16:16

I thought the decomposing thing looked like a rat.

whatsthestory123 · 11/10/2021 16:19

i thought a fox
what was the purpose of that?

480Widdio · 11/10/2021 17:09

I read that the plot has a lot of twists in it,so will continue watching.

Inkanta · 11/10/2021 17:15

Gonna stick with it - but bit surprised with the poor acting.

LittleMysSister · 11/10/2021 17:25

It's not quite what I was expecting - less a thriller so far and more making a drama out of a very real domestic violence situation, which didn't sit too comfortably with me tbh.

Also, the baby monitors are ridiculous but presumably necessary for one of them to eavesdrop on the other's telephone calls, a la 'thriller' 101.

LittleMysSister · 11/10/2021 17:31

Also the dead fox is there as symbolism - it's juxtaposed against their perfect house in the same way their relationship is.

Perfect home from the outside but bad things not far away.

Werehamster · 11/10/2021 17:34

It wasn't what I expected but will probably watch on.

LittleMysSister · 11/10/2021 17:36

Also don't get why she tried to pay Ed to follow her husband when he already knows him?

You need someone he won't recognise, surely.

jewel1968 · 11/10/2021 17:49

@AnyFucker agree Maid was very good.

I will probably watch the next episode cos I started but not convinced.

the80sweregreat · 11/10/2021 18:13

She was very cold with the children at times I thought.
The one following her wasn't great
What does the husband do ?

GreenLunchBox · 11/10/2021 20:02

You can't really do symbolism like that in a TV drama. Viewers just get confused.

Yes, I agree with the coldness. It's making it hard for me to get into it.
Allywill · 11/10/2021 23:08

@Jux

Why isn't she more scared of him? Has he only recently started being abusive? Surely after years of physical abuse/being terrorized she'd be a lot more ground down than she is; she seems a bit, oh, defiant? From the (admittedly only half-watched) trailers, I'd assumed that she as presented in this episode was at the beginning of their relationship not somewhere near the end.

I also wondered why the boys seemed so untouched by it too.

I read somewhere about dv that in the aftermath of the violence there is short period where the victim has the upper hand and the perpetrator is contrite - it doesn’t last obviously but in those few days the victim can act differently.
FuggyPidding · 12/10/2021 12:51

Just watched the first episode of this. Wasn't totally original/ mind blowing but I think I'll stick with it.
I like Joanne Froggatt.

oakleydo · 12/10/2021 21:22

I suspect there will be a flash back and we shall discover what happened to the dead fox and also an explanation as to what was going on with the dog.

Allywill · 12/10/2021 21:44

i think husband is dodgy criminal (trousers smelling of petrol) and the pi either under cover police or a rival criminal gang member.

GreenLunchBox · 12/10/2021 21:55

Good theories there from the last two posters!

Fadingout · 13/10/2021 08:33

Mixed review here. I need a drama to watch so will keep going but found both blokes acting not brilliant to be honest. And there’s always a big house involved. Will see.

SueSaid · 13/10/2021 13:37

I thought the sense of menace and foreboding was quite good. The tense music, the dead thing in the gutter etc.

You can't help but wonder how a clearly very wealthy man got together with someone who works in a rescue centre. They don't seem compatible at all even without the shocking dv.

The kids seems pleasantly oblivious to their mum's constant angst riddled facial expression, but then maybe that's what the nightmares are all about if they're internalising.

I quite like it so far.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/10/2021 14:42

Avoided thread till seen e1

I enjoyed it. If that’s the right word for drama about abuse 😢

It had twists and a good plot

As the reg tv viewers know I’m easily pleased

I like weekly as means we can have theories and chat about each episode and pick up on things others see that we miss
