Anyone going to be watching?

OP posts:
PennyRoyal · 10/10/2021 22:09

@Pinkfrescias

Was it a dead fox outside the house? Didn't get that. I think Ed might be a double agent. The husband makes my skin crawl.

Looks like a Fox to me.

She needs to hide her search history on her phone and laptop.

I'm hooked I think, but agree it needs to be over consecutive nights, not have to wait a week!

TedImgoingmad · 10/10/2021 22:16

I think Ed and the husband are setting Angela up. Ed will wind her up about the danger she's in to the point where she feels she has no choice but to hire Ed to kill husband, using the bundle of guilt money as a payment/down payment. The men will then use this as the proof husband needs to get rid of her via prison/divorce/prevention of child contact etc.

Honeyroar · 10/10/2021 22:16

I quite enjoyed it so far.

Jux · 10/10/2021 22:19

Why isn't she more scared of him? Has he only recently started being abusive? Surely after years of physical abuse/being terrorized she'd be a lot more ground down than she is; she seems a bit, oh, defiant? From the (admittedly only half-watched) trailers, I'd assumed that she as presented in this episode was at the beginning of their relationship not somewhere near the end.

I also wondered why the boys seemed so untouched by it too.

eddiemairswife · 10/10/2021 22:19

I shall carry on watching, but not particularly impressed. There has to be a thunderstorm to provide 'atmosphere'. Not happy with 'fall' leaves; we are still in England I presume. We have Autumn here.

Agreed.

Something is not ringing true for me.

Piggywaspushed · 10/10/2021 22:36

He isn't English though...

theliverpoolone · 10/10/2021 22:46

I'm finding both male actors quite wooden, so I'm not really feeling drawn in to it.

Agree that she wasn't appearing as cautious around him as you might expect if this had happened before. (Also, baby monitors for school age kids? Confused )

GreenLunchBox · 10/10/2021 22:47

. (Also, baby monitors for school age kids? confused )

Haha, I didn't even clock that Confused

Honeyroar · 10/10/2021 23:11

The monitor eas because he’d said he’d been having nightmares, I think.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 10/10/2021 23:20

The house this was filmed in is round the corner from me. Not sure I want to watch it though.

Furries · 10/10/2021 23:54

I’m not sure at the moment - I agree that the 2 actors aren’t great, so it’s slightly ruining it for me. I also feel that she’s being set up.

The dead animal was in the opening scene too, before the view then went inside to the dinner party where she made the comment that led to him hitting her. Can’t make out what it is, looks too dark to be a fox.

Is it in London?

I don't think she's a great actor either. Too expressionless
DrHildegardeLanstrom · 11/10/2021 04:24

@GreenLunchBox yes north London suburbs

the80sweregreat · 11/10/2021 06:12

I loved this, but I think it'll be a 'reverse' and she is the abuser. Not a spoiler at all as I'm always wrong , but a few things didn't ring true to me. I don't know though..
The lady running the dogs home was Mandy from ' this country ' , a great character.
The man who is tracking her wasn't that convincing.
Maybe they have monitors for the kids because it's such a huge place! Beautiful house as is the brief for all dramas these days.
I have house envy!!

the80sweregreat · 11/10/2021 06:33

She was told not to take the dogs muzzle off before , but she did it again?
Why ?

Pinkfrescias · 11/10/2021 07:44

I thought the dog was maybe a symbol? She thought she could trust him if she gave him a chance but then he hurt her...like her husband?

Iwantacampervan · 11/10/2021 08:05

I think there will be a twist - as soon as she heard of the divorce and him taking the children then she should have gone to the police and reported the violence. Were previous incidents (staying in hotel etc) on any record?
'As soon as you see the executive house with designer kitchen and bifold doors you know that something bad is about to happen.' (i newspaper review)

AnyFucker · 11/10/2021 08:11

I switched off half way through

Way too many cliches and the “private detective” was an unbelievable addition

If you want a more intelligent, nuanced and better acted depiction of domestic violence and the effects on a family watch “Maid” on Netflix. Far superior to these crappy ITV offerings.

the80sweregreat · 11/10/2021 09:25

Yes, it's never a normal house or flat in a normal area is it ?
Always these 'massive houses and lots of money 'dramas!

Mantlemoose · 11/10/2021 09:48

Just watched it on catch up. The dead dog/fox in the gutter is annoying me. The block of a house with grey bifold doors is really twee. I am thinking it will have lots of twists and turns though so looking forward to next episode.

Darklane · 11/10/2021 11:49

Don’t know what to make of the private detective, doesn’t seem a convincing plot.
I hate that house, square concrete block, cold & soulless, but then I like old houses with lots of nooks & crannies & character.

Piggywaspushed · 11/10/2021 12:54

I am going to stick with it but I do find DV plots turned into revenge thrillers a bit potentially in poor taste...

thisplaceisapigsty · 11/10/2021 13:01

There seem to be only 2 sets ever used for dramas on tv - one is the big cold boxy house with huge windows everywhere and the other one is the big Victorian semi with huge sofas and stained glass front door. No one in the UK lives in anything else, it seems.
