Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

Seconded!

Patrick Melrose was hideously emotional. 'Enjoyed' it though.

I'm currently enjoying Landscapers. Fresh and new take on a typical murder story

LoganRoy · 23/12/2021 16:58

Thanks for the White Lotus recommendation. Just what I needed this week!

JanisMoplin · 23/12/2021 19:25

God, this Monday was so dull without an episode of Succession to look forward to. I have been following Successionfashion on Instagram if anyone is interested in the clothes this season. Personally I thought Shiv's day wear was awful, but I wonder if this was intentional. Hadley Freeman said her awkward, illfitting clothes were a symbol of how out of place she was feeling. Not seeing it myself.

Chemenger · 24/12/2021 09:28

I can highly recommend rewatching series one after series 3. You notice so much, like the fact that every time someone says “you can trust me”, which they say unnaturally often, it’s always a lie.

I didn’t think Shiv’s clothes were awkward or ill-fitting. She’s got some meat on her bones and was wearing body-fitting stuff, that’s all. If a size zero woman wore dresses that fitted the same as hers do, no one would say anything. I’m the only person on Earth who did, but I liked her blue wedding-party dress Grin I also loved the floral one at the ceremony; very John Galliano.
JanisMoplin · 24/12/2021 11:42

I didn't like the floral one or the blue wedding party at all, and I think they might not be nice on anyone. Geri is not a size zero and her clothes are so much better. I do like Shiv's evening wear even if body con? I think they look more expensive and luxe.

IntermittentParps · 24/12/2021 13:17

Well, it’s just personal taste. I liked both day dresses.

partystress · 25/12/2021 01:11

Not a series recommendation, but a film. Don’t Look Up, on Netflix now. Directed and written by one of the Succession team and with a very similar soundtrack. Starry cast, very funny, but also moving and thought provoking. Not enjoyed a film so much in years.

YourenutsmiLord · 28/12/2021 22:41

Just watched Series 3 - blooming heck the acting was good at the end. Brian Cox managed to tell people to F Off in so many different ways Grin
Shiv's chatacter didn't used to witter on like she does now, she's seems more immature. Kendall was well acted too - slowly deteriorating.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 28/12/2021 23:08

I envy you that first viewing of S3!

For me it was head and shoulders above the first two series - and they were stupendous. But every single episode of S3 was a masterclass.

YourenutsmiLord · 29/12/2021 07:00

Yes, the first two were more a slow burn.
I feel the 3 siblings were made to seem sort of childish, though that might have been deliberate. I mean Kendall was 40.

It might have been to show what callous parents they had but Logan could still have been cruel without it being so obvious (he also seemed nastier). He wasn't that bad previously imv ......more just ruthless.

aquadiaqua · 31/12/2021 20:23

It’s more or less central to the story though isn’t it? All four of them are very arrested and vulnerable - the three “boys” more obviously so because Shiv’s armour is a little more solidly put together but ofc her own vulnerabilities and shortcomings have been more and more apparent as the story’s progressed. They’re all deeply damaged people in ways that to me are entirely in keeping with their sad, abusive upbringings.

TiddleTaddleTat · 03/01/2022 19:01

I’m loving rewatching succession from S1. Even better on a second viewing.
Just seen this - very interesting for fans of the musical score
Succession is like an extended opera.
Such a solid gold show.

RoyKentsChestHair · 03/01/2022 19:21

Thanks so much for that link Tiddle! Fascinating stuff. It does sound very Beethoven-esque to me and I always expect it to morph into Gangsters Paradise too, so his reference to the HipHop elements makes a lot of sense! Keep meaning to find the sheet music so I can learn it - maybe I should use it as my theme tune and play it as I walk in a room Grin

Thanks for this. I love the music. I've even made the theme my ring tone and I've never before had a ringtone other than the classic "ring ring" Grin

I am rewatching and I’m up to S3E2.
What is so interesting watching it again is how I’m seeing Logan’s perspective - and feeling much more sympathy for his position than I did first time round.

That's interesting. How so?
TiddleTaddleTat · 15/01/2022 08:19

I suppose I am sensing that he wants the business to stay in the family - he lines up one child as successor and then they let him down. Shiv was like a bull in a china shop, so many awkward moments, and he simply can’t trust Ken after all his manoeuvring. He does love his kids, he has time for them, he listens and tries to help. He’s only got where he has because of being so incredibly tough and shrewd - not sure any of his children have that, really.

rookiemere · 15/01/2022 08:21

@TiddleTaddleTat yes there was that bit in the final episode of Series 3 when it was like the scales had finally fallen from his eyes and he realised that none of his DC were capable of running the company.

SantaClawsServiette · 15/01/2022 17:48

Maybe, I can see that. Though I'd have a lot of questions - I'm not even entirely sure it's true, for one thing, though he may believe it. It's also something he did, not just by being a damaged person himself but by quite deliberately making them mistrust each other and themselves for his own advantage.

But I also think he's telling the truth when he says that he wants to win. He sees this deal as necessary, and he'll do whatever he thinks will get him there, even cutting out the kids.

I think he's going to regret it, though.

SantaClawsServiette · 15/01/2022 17:51

I found I actually liked him less over time. I saw him as more playing power games than I had before, but mostly it was the stuff with Marsha and the silly assistant. What a chump.

TiddleTaddleTat · 15/01/2022 18:07

Yeah I see that side too. It’s just the first time I watched it I thought he was just evil. Now I’m coming round to his side - and seeing how Kendall in particular is probably the nastiest character !

SantaClawsServiette · 15/01/2022 18:44

Oh, Kendal, that's interesting. I always see him as probably the most naturally sensitive and loyal. Even when he tried to betray his father, it's always because Logan basically told him that's what he ought to do. I find Shiv the most difficult to like.

I don't think they've made any of them completely inhuman, that wouldn't be realistic, but even when he's being nice Logan uses his affection to weaken them and undermine them. He basically destroys Kendel when he tells him he loves him at the end of season 2, he consistently takes advantage of Roman's desire to be loved to keep him under his thumb.

That's almost worse than just being a bastard.

TiddleTaddleTat · 16/01/2022 10:16

Kendall is sensitive and probably the most personable and likeable (in the surface) of them all . But when he played that music during Shiv’s speech … or went on Tv to take his dad down… he can be really vicious.
Shiv is pretty dreadful though, agree!
Connor is probably the most ‘normal’ of the siblings
