Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

I had to hide the thread as I couldn’t watch until tonight. What an episode! Just fantastic. I can sort of see why Logan would be disappointed in his children, but at the same time (and I wonder this with all come-from-nothing types) if you give them everything and don’t make them work for anything, how are they going to have your grit and drive? (Setting aside the manipulation and probable emotional abuse etc.)

I like how the series ended how the first started, with the 3 of them talking through options.

valerianroot · 15/12/2021 08:51

DH has a theory that Greg will end up in charge and shaft the lot of them.

IntermittentParps · 15/12/2021 08:59

@JanisMoplin

Of course Tom got his own back. At last..Go Tom! Shiv's face when she realised...

Caroline is a real piece of work. Logan must have had to really throw money at her for her to betray her children. Bet Shiv feels sorry about her " What the hell, bitch? " wedding speech though.

The acting by Jeremy and Kieran in the scene where he confesses to killing the waiter was just sublime.. So moving and funny.

This is what I can't quite get past.

My DP has a theory that she thinks that them all being cut off is the best thing for them as they'll be out of the toxic Logan situation.

I'm not sure. But I'm also puzzled about what the 'carrot' was for Caroline. She would REALLY do that to the kids for the London flat alone?
Is her new husband putting that much pressure on her? Is he in serious financial trouble, like owing money to very bad men trouble?

I'm not sure what Tom and Greg are going to go on to do in the next series. And I think the Matsson deal is going to go tits-up; otherwise there'd be no company left for them to fight over and no succession drama left.
I suspect Matsson will torch the deal himself (he's said several times he's bored/how boring everything is/how succeeding is too easy and failure is more interesting) and we'll be, essentially, back to square one.

I loved Willa: 'Fuck it. How bad can it be?' Grin

I've often wondered about that. He's always there, isn't he? Constantly being overlooked and underestimated. But in his suing Greenpeace, ditching Comfry and going after the contessa (and a European royal title Grin) he is just as ruthless and power-hunrgy as any of the others; he just isn't operating at the same level. Yet.
Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 15/12/2021 09:09

@IntermittentParps

Agree re deal. I quite liked the idea of them going back to Pierce again. Matson is SO untrustworthy I couldn’t imagine wanting to get into bed with him after all the shit he pulled.

I don’t agree re Caroline. She’s just a bad mother. Whether it’s because she has always put money first, or because she feels they chose Logan and wants a bit of revenge/has become cold, who knows? I don’t think she would need much convincing and I def don’t think she would do it because she thought it would be in their best interests - she just doesn’t care!

Yes, I'm not convinced by my DP's Caroline theory.
BUT I just think she might ask for more than the London flat. She had quite a lot of leverage there, after all; Logan wanted that deal quite badly.

idiotfacelicker · 15/12/2021 09:18

"I loved Willa: 'Fuck it. How bad can it be?' "

Also loved this. Also then her face of horror getting in the car with him directly after the most lukewarm acceptance of marriage in history. Instant regret.

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 09:20

He’s crazy about her and looks great

Is it that bad for her?

Maybe it’s the actor I really like Connor - I know he had that nutty stuff at one point

He's a bit of a tit. Plus, maybe she just doesn't really love him?
MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 09:41

Maybe not then she should not do it

Either way I’m not really feeling for her, she seems a bit using if there’s no love

idiotfacelicker · 15/12/2021 09:46

She's def using him for her life of luxury and she's hesitant because he's a tit that embarrasses her on a daily basis. I mean he joyfully celebrated her response of "fuck it, how bad can it be?" How can you have any respect for someone in that situation?

I don't particularly feel sorry for her. She's chosen to extend her call girl job to become a more permanent arrangement but that won't stop her being mortified by him regularly.

I said that in season 1 too. I think he puts himself as naive but he is as savvy as they are. :)
idiotfacelicker · 15/12/2021 10:00

I think he did start as genuinely naive but he's watched how they operate and is now playing the game accordingly.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 15/12/2021 10:06

I think if you’re a call girl then marrying a billionaire isn’t the worst thing that could happen to you. He’s kind to her and treats her well and she will be set for life. Could be worse!

DidgeDoolittle · 15/12/2021 10:42

My favourite line from this last episode was Roman referring to Kendall as "the Kurt Cobain of the floaties". 😄

MintyCedric · 15/12/2021 11:35

He's a bit of a tit.

Understatement of the year Grin.

I agree with @Justheretoaskaquestion91.

He might be a boring tit (and is probably hopeless in the sack), but here treats her well and appears to respect her - supporting her playwriting attempts and including her in family occasions.

She doesn't have to stay married to him if the presidency campaign goes pear-shaped, in which case she could be set for life.

Chemenger · 15/12/2021 12:02

We're starting again from series 1 now. very interesting to watch it knowing what is coming. Shiv is almost human, Marcia seems a devoted wife, Tom needy and weak and Greig is a slightly bizarre hanger-on. Kendall seems the least changed somehow.

OrtolanVeil · 15/12/2021 12:28

It's not the flat. The husband wants a knighthood or something - strings pulled re his social standing. I'm not clear on how Caroline actually feels about new husband though - didn't they reference him having been around for years?

OrtolanVeil · 15/12/2021 12:29

I mean it's not just the flat.

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 12:40

The tiny thing that bugged me is why the security guard left Kendall when he went back to the office and got the speakers

JanisMoplin · 15/12/2021 12:44

I thought the maca root thing and Logan trying to have another child at nearly 80 was rather odd. But maybe that is how billionaires think.

I remembered that Logan also said he gave her new husband (the seat-sniffer Grin) a 'leg-up' –the intro to the House of Lords he wanted?

Didn't Murdoch, at a fairly advanced age, have a child with Wendi Deng? Maybe it was a reference to that.
JanisMoplin · 15/12/2021 13:11

Of course you are right. How have I forgotten this whole thing draws on Murdoch for inspiration? He appears to have some kind of tussle going on with his children over shareholdings too.

LoganRoy · 15/12/2021 13:27

I think Peter Munion is fairly recent - when they told Logan didn’t he say something like what happened to Bertie Woofter? And there was something about the previous one being around for years. Sometimes the dialogue is so quick I miss bits.
