Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

This three parter on the Murdochs is well worth a watch. They are definitely inspiration!

OrtolanVeil · 15/12/2021 13:43

I'm not sure I caught it myself, but some recaps mention them saying Munion has known the mum for forty years or so... prompting some speculation!

LiterallyKnowsBest · 15/12/2021 15:20

Yes - Logan barked out something about Munion having been ‘sniffing around Caroline for more than forty years’ - so then half the planet anticipated a paternity revelation regarding Kendall in the final episode.

LoganRoy · 15/12/2021 16:03

Thank you I mixed up those two lines I think.

Going back to Caroline betraying them, given that she excluded her son from some of her wedding celebrations so that her ex-husband could be there in order to please her husband-to-be, is it so much of a surprise? Also I find the “oh darlings don’t be cross” schtick far worse than if she didn’t bother at all.

WinterDeWinter · 15/12/2021 17:31

I can sort of see why Logan would be disappointed in his children, but at the same time (and I wonder this with all come-from-nothing types) if you give them everything and don’t make them work for anything, how are they going to have your grit and drive?

And of course, the thing that all bad parents forget - their failure is your failure. In this case, Logan hobbled them. His parenting, at the most friendly analysis, failed to push them through their inevitable sense of inferiority to their father. And more likely, crushed them before they even got off the starting blocks.

WinterDeWinter · 15/12/2021 17:43

@LoganRoy God yes, the 'don't be cross' thing is so fabulous and Gatsby/Waugh-ish. In fact, that's an interesting connection - the whole series has such a 1920s, decadent feel.

In general Caroline is so interesting - in her tete a tete with Shiv last episode I felt like we had an insight into a different truth, which didn't invalidate Shiv's truth but exists alongside it: that Shiv was already captured by her father at the point that her mother withdrew. In fact, Caroline's withdrawal was precisely because she knew Shiv had been captured, and it was a miserable, desperate and unwilling withdrawal. A defeat.

And her desire to please the new husband has a desperate edge which pokes through the Brideshead UC drawl.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 15/12/2021 19:15

@WinterDeWinter

Love how you express Caroline from the conversation last ep. Couldn’t agree more!

Roundlampshade · 15/12/2021 21:14

Bernie Ecclestone became a dad again at the age of 850.

JustJustWhy · 15/12/2021 22:24

850? Jesus!

I got 14/15. I’m not sure if I should be concerned by that.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/12/2021 04:48

13/15!

Reassuringly non-obsessed …

Xmas Grin
Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 16/12/2021 05:14

9/15 - the children ones are fine but the Logan ones are so hard 😆🤦🏻‍♀️

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 16/12/2021 07:13

10/15!!
And some of those other quotes are quite scary….

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 16/12/2021 08:34

The Jeff Bezos quotes are awful Grin Imagine being one of his executives. I have a CEO a little like the Murdoch quote about throwing his executives into these big situations and expecting them to do great things - but my CEO is also extremely lovely and supportive, which makes it a bit easier!

Roundlampshade · 16/12/2021 08:37

11/15

MargotMoon · 16/12/2021 11:32

Agree about Caroline and the Seat-Sniffer not just being about a flat in London - she wanted Logan to get him a peerage of some sort, what a perfect place to open negotiations on the holding company. He'll have fucking Bojo on speed-dial, no doubt sorted it within minutes

readwritelove · 17/12/2021 12:26

Hans Christian Anderfuck was pure perfection!

And loved how Roman took the offer of tea in Mattson’s garden meeting and then was so awkward with the cup and saucer. A genius of subtlety, Kieron McCulkin!

MintyCedric · 17/12/2021 12:29

Hans Christian Anderfuck was pure perfection!

I actually made a note of that while I was watching Grin.

It was quite nice seeing Logan with his grandkids at the beginning...maybe he is human after all.

Shiv's outfits were back on point too...I love everything she wore in this episode.

IntermittentParps · 17/12/2021 12:37

I don't think so. He humiliated his grandson by saying the book was too young for him, then as soon as his phone went he practically threw the kids at his assistant and buggered off to attend to business.

MintyCedric · 17/12/2021 12:41

See I read that comment as him actually being uncomfortable about the subject matter more than anything (don't know if you're familiar with that book but it's about Mog dying so related to Kendall's 'incident').

Admittedly he did dash off for the phone call but if you've got a multi billion pound business I guess that's life.

Yes, I did know about Mog and death but I hadn't thought he might actually be showing a bit of concern/discomfort about Kendall. You're a nicer person than I Grin

Him dashing off was just so like all the shots in the credits where the kids are waiting/looking for him and he's off talking business.

readwritelove · 17/12/2021 12:53

I think it was endearing at first but he just can’t help himself! He’s just so bitterly disappointed/angry his children and his grandchildren are not exactly like him!

Winnerwinnerveggiedinner · 17/12/2021 14:17

@IntermittentParps I interpreted it as he was uncomfortable with the Mog story because Logan himself was so tired and reminded him of death. And it’s a book for much younger children - hardly a ‘winner’s book’. I don’t believe he has any grand paternalistic thoughts for Ken’s son. It was only last episode that he got the boy to sample the food Ken had provided just in case it was poisoned.

Yes, excellent point, Logan does go on to talk about being tired and old later in the episode, doesn't he?
I didn't think it was a ‘winner’s book’ or that he has any grand paternalistic thoughts for Kendall’s son; are you thinking of a different poster?
I don't think he thought the food was poisoned. I think he wanted to taunt Kendall and see his reaction.

Winnerwinnerveggiedinner · 17/12/2021 16:22

Hi, no - I was making a few generic points (after the book content) that he's not ideal grandad material.

Ken did accuse him of behaving like the food was poisoned but he shrugged it off. I wish I has been this invested when I was doing English Literature...
