Who is your favourite characters in Succession. I thought this was one of the best shows I have seen in ages, can't wait for new season which will be out soon. Lots of great characters in it. Greg, Tom, Roman. Love to hear your take on it..

Ah yes this show is brilliant. They are all
So wonderfully hateful! Normally I can’t watch a programme that has no redeemable characters, but I love this programme. I think Tom is particularly skin-crawlingly odious.

Baboutheocelot · 30/09/2021 20:31

I can’t wait for the next season. The boar on the floor scene was crazy. Apparently it’s based on the Murdochs but I bet they’re even worse in real life. I also love the theme tune, there are a few playlists on Spotify and I like to cook along dramatically to it.

WithMyEncyclopedia · 30/09/2021 21:23

@Lottapianos

'Best theme tune and opening credits on any show, ever.'

God yes. Absolutely stunning, and sets you up perfectly to have your nerves rattled!

I don't think I can watch it on a Monday. Monday is Only Connect and University Challenge in this house (saddos). Might save it for a Thursday!

That was my thought! (Do you record both then watch them in the 'right' order i.e. UC first then OC as dessert?)
Lottapianos · 30/09/2021 22:56

Haha! No, we watch live. Need nice geeky quizzes on Monday, can't take the stress of Succession!

KnottyKnitting · 30/09/2021 22:58

Roman is my favourite character- I agree just the best series on TV for a very long time.

The characters are all so good and well cast.

Also LOVE the theme tune!

The succession podcast is good, 30 minutes with each main actor.

I’m started watching it again last night from the beginning. It’s superb. It deserves to be such a big hit.

Ulysses · 01/10/2021 08:51

Monday night is quiz night for me as well. I start earlier on with Richards Osmans House of Games slightly later on catch-up as that’s when DH gets home, then Mastermind then the other two. I’ll save Succession for the Tuesday night.

thisplaceisapigsty · 01/10/2021 09:33

So much about it that I love. I've already mentioned the opening credits but I love all the high budget settings, it's as if the producers just write blank cheques all the time. I think the most tense episode was Shiv's wedding when you thought it would just be a bit of family tension and nice outfits and then Kendall and that waiter in the car...don't want to spoil it if someone hasn't seen it, but I couldn't believe what I was watching. The cold blooded nature of them all, it was so vile and weird at the same time. Boar on the Floor was equally weird and vile but hilarious as well. Once you know Jesse Armstrong is a writer on the show, you can see it, that Peep Show cringe, black humour and one liners that come so fast you almost miss them.

Sophoclesthefox · 01/10/2021 09:39

Hands down the best thing on TV for years. So deliciously, awfully compelling. I don’t know who I love best, they are all so brilliantly drawn and acted. It’s the only thing I’m keeping my Now TV sub for- roll on October 17th!

Purpleberet · 01/10/2021 20:25

Love it, but hardly anyone I know has seen it. I think it might be in my top 5 tv shows of all time.

Roman was my favourite. He seemed a little more self aware of how fucked everything is, but still willing to participate in it while calling it out. I think he gets the funniest lines. Am currently rewatching, interested to see if he's still my favourite second time round. I probably laugh the most at Tom while also cringing out of my skin 😂

midsomermurderess · 01/10/2021 22:44

At the end of the last series, probably Roman. I loathed him at the start, as I guess I was meant to, but came to feel rather protective of him in the end, again, as I was probably meant too. He's not as sharp as Shiv but smarter than Kendall, and him and Gerri was fun. What chance did they have though with a brutal bully for a father and an emotionally absent mother? What a nightmare.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 01/10/2021 22:44

@TeachesOfPeaches

When Tom believes his own self-importance has me cringing like when he thought he was in the 'wrong' panic room after shoving everyone out of the way during an active shooter by screaming 'EXECUTIVE COMING THROUGH'
One of my favourite episodes
midsomermurderess · 01/10/2021 22:49

Adam Buxton interviewed Georgia Pritchett, one of the writers and exec producers, on his podcast recently. That was an interesting listen. The first series anyway was written by a bunch of British based out of Brixton. But there was/is a British feel to some of the humour.

MrsMariaReynolds · 01/10/2021 23:15

L to the O-G!

They're all so twisted and broke though.

Mediumred · 02/10/2021 01:55

Even the more minor characters are great. Willa when she chucks the IPad with the bad reviews in to the sea. Tabitha, happy to gently take the piss out of Roman’s sexual dysfunction.

I like weaselly Hugo who does PR for the cruise division (played by Fisher Stevens, once married to Michelle Pfeiffer!) and the way when they need someone to fire he suggests Karolina, his boss who does PR for all of Waystar. I can’t imagine the stress of doing PR for Waystar and the dysfunctional family/corporate shenanigans at its core! How to spin that!

Gerri is my fave I think. She is really clever, but why doesn’t she cash in/retire? Who needs that insane stress? Is she fighting for Logan’s approval just like the children?

Dogatetheleftovers · 02/10/2021 21:40

Has anyone seen the publicity shots for the new series? In some, Shiv, Tom and Greg are lined up behind Logan and then Kendall, Roman on the other side. In another shot, everyone has moved and in a third shot, the lineup has changed again. I assume it’s showing how allegiances may alter and I’ve read that there’s more from Caroline in this series as well as the PR man who reported to Karolina. Plus some other new cast as well as Naomi Pierce back with Kendall. I cannot wait, I love it. I cringe one minute, the next I’m heartbroken for a character and then I’m despairing at their actions. Amazing writing by Jesse Armstrong.

Roundlampshade · 04/10/2021 10:59

What I want to know is how did Tom rise to the top whilst being such a dope? He clearly made it to Execute level to have met Shiv in the first place.

oldwhyno · 04/10/2021 11:10

Agree, one of the best shows on TV. Can't wait for the next series and I think this thread has convinved me we need to rebinge 1 and 2 first.

Ulysses · 04/10/2021 11:43

I binged both series over the weekend. It was still awesome. Saying that I'm looking forward to something that's shown weekly so I can savour it all. I started watching it in the second season I think, then went back to the start again.

It reminds me of Mad Men a bit, my all time favourite TV show.

Lottapianos · 04/10/2021 14:19

'I binged both series over the weekend'

Oh my lord! What state is your head in today? 😂 I can only cope with one episode at a time. It's divine, I love it, but I find it a gruelling watch

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 06/10/2021 15:52

I'm so excited to see season 3. I love all the characters, it's such amazing writing.

IrishMel · 06/10/2021 16:44

Ulysses..I loved Mad Men also. Check out the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where the actor who played Don Draper (have brain fog can't remember his name) is in Curb. He is so charismatic in Mad Men. That was such a good show also. Great characters that really drew you in.

Ulysses · 06/10/2021 17:09

Also a fan of Curb!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/10/2021 22:19

Roman trying to ignore the rocket launch disaster by just quietly putting his phone away and washing his hands and not mentioning it at all 🤣.
