Evening Brew Cake
Setting up the bingeing thread which, same as last year, works parallel to the concurrent one which is TV pace.
This thread is for those of us with no willpower to discuss the whole series freely.
Episode 2 with the loose women references and Pat/Kitty's dance routine was joyous was my favourite from the six.
But the whole series works - whether it's willy-shaped chess pieces or butt jokes. It's just a lovely ensemble. I also thought Mary had better lines/more to her part this time around.

Hello!

Loved it 😊

Bloodypunkrockers · 10/08/2021 09:00

What did you think of the main cast playing Kitty's family ?

Do you think that was because in her mind they had become blurred, because of her own feelings towards them and then we only saw the others when they were being horrible?

Kitty's sister was played by Francis Button's real life partner.

Also, we've talked before on here about colour blind casting but maybe not after all.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/08/2021 13:05

Waves to mackie- I am sure you were the other binger who finished alongside me last time Grin

Good question punk to which I have no answer (am hopeless)
Until they started flicking between, I had thought it was simply covid-related acting bubble playing double parts to minimise production being shutdown. But your explanation makes sense.
I assume the sister was involved in Kitty's death but, in the same way Julian's actual circumstances haven't gone into detail, as it is a family show they won't ever properly go there?
What do you mean re colour blind casting?

Ooh is a new series out?

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/08/2021 13:09

Yes cushion all 6 are up on iplayer. There is our sister thread (following TV pace) over here... no spoilers there.

handforth

Jessica Knappett is in three episodes - briefly in episodes 2, 4 and 6

Didn’t know they were all on iplayer! Watched episode 1 yesterday and moaned about the week to week wait! Right I’ll be back once I’ve watched them all (and done a days work I guess - boo)

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 10/08/2021 13:44

Thanks @SequinsandStiIettos! Briefly I can cope with!!

cushioncovers · 10/08/2021 18:45

Thank you

I love the way in ep.2 when Julian is having flashbacks to when he became a ghost, and they address the issue of why the ghosts can sit in chairs but move through everything else. Not resolved but a funny nod to that discrepancy in the piece.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/08/2021 20:11

Yes I liked that too Bill, especially as I am a bit thick sometimes (I asked on the other thread how Robin was playing chess as I hadn't realised Julian was moving his pieces for him). I'd make an appalling detective.
Felt for Pat wrt Brew and dipping biscuits! It made me put the kettle on! Grin

You're welcome cushion, come back here when you've binged! Wink
I do admire those that make it last but I am the kinder egg woman that would just say immediate gratification ta!

Just finished the series and loved it. Enjoyed kitty's story. No I don't think it was colour blind casting I think it was intended that her dad had an affair hence her sister's jealousy.

I liked Robin most in this series. Lots of subtle reactions in the background to be enjoyed

Poor old pat

SnottyLottie · 10/08/2021 21:11

I always supposed Kitty was meant to be based Dido Belle in that she was illegitimate (probably born to a slave mother) but beloved by her father and brought up as a gentlewoman.

Yes, me too but it has been subject of much debate in previous threads

Poor Kitty. It's going to be heartbreaking when we find out how she died.

Artdecolover · 10/08/2021 22:10

I love Pat
He's been my favourite since s1 :)

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 10/08/2021 22:34

Finished! Nice to see more of Humphrey. It’s a shame the plague ghosts aren’t in it this series though. Loved Pat and Kitty’s dancing!

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/08/2021 22:56

Ah that was what punk meant! Blush
Sorry, because it came after Al Roberts/Emma Sidi link (are they still dating?) I thought you meant nepotism somehow; but couldn't work out when Lolly had worked alongside any of the others. That said, a six degrees of separation e.g. Starstruck, Dead Pixels, Stath lets flats etc link various cast members and cameos.

I am glad Yani Xander (Humphrey's body) had his moment in the limelight this series, even if we didn't get to see 'him' in his entirety!

Surprisingly, as she was my least favourite previously, I really took to Mary this series and liked her the most.

Where are the plague people

SequinsandStiIettos · 11/08/2021 01:56

not in this series because the filming had to be socially distanced - plague pit too close together in confined space
they had to do green screening and CGI just to get the scenes they were all in
i have to say, great job, as i didnt notice much disparity between series

I thought they did an amazing job. There’s one scene where Julian’s leg doesn’t look quite right but aside from that it really wasn’t noticeable.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 11/08/2021 07:52

Wow really interesting article. They did a brilliant job, I didn’t notice any difference.

SnottyLottie · 11/08/2021 11:37

Favourite scenes on first watch:

  • Pat asking Alison to dunk the biscuit into the tea again
  • When Alison and Lucy are waking outside and she spots the Roundhead soldier who then chases her and bombards her with questions (“who won the war?”)
  • Julian messing with keyboard when Mike is trying to send an email

I really want Mike to be able to see Julian!
