Evening Brew Cake
Setting up the bingeing thread which, same as last year, works parallel to the concurrent one which is TV pace.
This thread is for those of us with no willpower to discuss the whole series freely.
Episode 2 with the loose women references and Pat/Kitty's dance routine was joyous was my favourite from the six.
But the whole series works - whether it's willy-shaped chess pieces or butt jokes. It's just a lovely ensemble. I also thought Mary had better lines/more to her part this time around.

@PPCD

In the first episode of series 1 Robin says checkmate to Julian and Julian replies "fine, best of twenty". I think the implication is Robin is at least as good at him if not better.
Thanks for that. I must have got it wrong. It's packed full of little asides and it's easy to miss some of the details on one viewing. I might need to rewatch the whole thing. Grin

@NapoleonOzmolysis

I think Robin is much better. Must have had an excellent teacher.
Plus Willie shaped guy Grin

@knittingaddict Definitely worth watching several times just for Robin as there are so many little details in there. And it's just a lovely sitcom.

aw
so good,

@NapoleonOzmolysis

I think Robin just uses his own names for the pieces like Prawns and Lighthouse and even now poor Julian has to translate as he makes them go dooka dooka across the board.
As the chess board only became dust free once Alison was helping them, weren't they playing chess by remembering where each piece was for the whole game?
LemonViolet · 11/09/2021 14:03

Yes I think that before they were doing it in a kind of fantasy chess way. Now Julian has honed his showaddy finger I think he can move the pieces around?

@covetingthepreciousthings

Can anyone tell me what age they have let their DC watch ghosts?
My 6 year old is watching it. Turns out that me and her dad have told her different stories about how Julian died, oops!
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/09/2021 23:55

I enjoyed seeing Mike develop a bit of a relationship with the ghosts , even though he can’t see them.

Yes I enjoyed this too, especially when he was filming and Julian pressed record for him. I hope at some point he can see them at least once but I'm not sure how that would work.

Came across a blooper video on TikTok with a bit from Thomas’ death scene where he is furiously kissing his love interest and mmm..I liked that bit Wink I don’t care to admit how many times I watched that bit

So excited for Christmas special anyway, think this is going to be fantastic, bring on December.

choosername1234 · 16/10/2021 19:25

How exciting...!!!!

BakeOffRewatch · 27/10/2021 14:53

@NapoleonOzmolysis

The end scene of the final series surely has got to be Alison dying in bed at Button House - like Heather Button in the first scene of E1 S1 - while the rest of the ghosts look on, possibly with Ghost Mike with them?

You could easily have a new ghost for 2-3 episodes who then gets sucked off. I thought that's what was going to happen with the irritating guy next door. Then you get some mileage out of them all adjusting to someone new. There's definitely another series in it.

Both? They have a baby and she becomes a ghost? @PPCD @KimikosNightmare

I thought they really developed tenderness between Thomas and Alison this season - I wonder if they’re end game as ghosts.

Series 4 of Ghosts has yet to be confirmed by the BBC, but a recommission is expected
Oh I really hope so.

BakeOffRewatch · 01/11/2021 22:30

I’m rewatching now. What happened between Mary and Robin at the house party?!

mogschristmascalamity · 02/12/2021 11:12

Series 4 is confirmed. Yay. I thought they might stop it there as it seemed a good ending. Anyhow I came back on to post this...

From interweb:

Ghosts will be coming to BBC One with a 2021 Christmas Special later this year.

The hit comedy, which recently aired its third series, follows a young couple who inherit a grand country house, only to find it is both falling apart and full of the ghosts of former inhabitants.

A Christmas special has been confirmed for this festive period on BBC One. The episode will star writers and creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond and feature guest star Jennifer Saunders.

A teaser for the one-off episode reads: "In the run up to the festive season, Kitty becomes convinced that Santa has made an early stop at Button House when Mike and Alison discover a man living in a tent on their grounds.

"The ghosts' advice on how to deal with him leaves much to be desired, but eventually Mike and Alison learn that they have more to offer this Christmas than they realised."

The Ghosts Christmas special 2021 air has been confirmed for Thursday, 23 December at 8:30PM on BBC One and iPlayer.

BakeOffRewatch · 23/12/2021 20:28

Who is lining up to watch the Christmas special now? I’m so excited!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 23/12/2021 20:30

We are watching!

PatriotCanes · 23/12/2021 21:05

Ah some glorious Fanny puns there.

BakeOffRewatch · 23/12/2021 21:07

I really enjoyed it! Though the Fanny back story wasn’t as meaty as I thought it would be. Julian’s last year was great, showed real growth and gave insight into what he was like. I liked this year’s Thomas’s how to lie plot, and Pat’s quiz annual quiz, though I would have appreciated some answers. I want to know the Captain’s name AND Robin’s favourite Beatle/beetle Grin
