Anyone watching? Bench Seat Man has gone!

I’ve said to Dh if we were ever to do anything with our house than I’d want Laura. She listens, pays attention to budget & is practical.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 15/10/2021 18:55

I think the same MissMarple. Plus she usually manages to include a snug which would suit me. I wouldn't be keen on a big open room if I didn't have somewhere to close the door and escape the noisy teens.

artquejtion · 15/10/2021 19:28

I just watched it on catch up, gosh I thought it was dreadful.

I somehow missed how much they ended up spending on it, just read it it here on this thread, yikes. So far, I think it is the worst of the projects they have shown.

Squiz81 · 15/10/2021 22:30

This obviously wasn’t a case of Robert returning for this series but an episode from a much earlier series that overrun!!

The couple seemed to genuinely like it which is the main thing, but I was not a fan of the concrete block walls, it did just look like an unfinished extension. Can’t really blame that on Robert though as wasn’t in his plan. Also assume that whatever they did would have had the same issue with the land and structural costs.

Very good point, Squiz81

An ex had painted breeze block walls in halls at uni. They were cold and miserable then but at least it was only for a couple of months at a time. Still can't get over the unfinished look and wonder how it'll feel this winter.

shrugshrug · 16/10/2021 14:51

@Squiz81
You are very clever - "This obviously wasn't a case if Robert returning for this series but an episode from a much earlier series that overran !!!"

How right you are.
I just thought "Oh he's back. I'm glad they ignored all the negative feedback, despite it being justified as it must have been very hurtful to him and loved ones."

I was wrong. Smile

bendmeoverbackwards · 17/10/2021 23:23

@TheWeeDonkey

£225,000!!!!!! Fucks sake you could buy a new house for that!
Not in Borehamwood you can’t!
bendmeoverbackwards · 17/10/2021 23:26

I agree it was a huge amount of money to spend and only having one bathroom was a big mistake. Wait till their daughters are teenagers! 🙄

dollybird · 18/10/2021 08:12

I quite liked the finished result, and the couple clearly loved it. The outside of the house looked shabby though, and didn't match the shiny new extension. They said they want to stay there forever, but things change. We would've said that about our house, had a loft conversion, and got it all how we want it. Now DH has RA, and horrible neighbours moved in next door, so we are looking to move in the next few years 😟

notacooldad · 18/10/2021 10:37

But that £225k was extra investment on top if their mortgage. So what ever their mortgage they could get + any equity + £225k could possibly get them more suitable for their needs.
However, that's irrelevant, its done now. I really hope they do like their extra space. It may not be everyone's taste but they seem happy with it. 🤞

Maireas · 18/10/2021 11:42

They were such a lovely couple, I'm glad it worked out in the end. Imagine all that stress, plus covid, plus a new baby! Naomi seemed so calm.
It was great to see Robert back, he's so creative. Laura's designs are all the same and usually a bit dull.

Maireas · 18/10/2021 11:44

Also, I liked the fact that Yehuda and Naomi used orange and green and bronze. I'm so sick of that depressing battleship grey everywhere.

shrugshrug · 18/10/2021 11:51

@Maireas We (on
this thread ) don't think Robert's back. The build took 3 years so wasn't ready for tv possibly until now.
@Squiz81 copped on to it first.

Maireas · 18/10/2021 11:59

Yes, good point, @shrugshrug!
I think I meant to say that it was great to see him again. I have missed his designs!

notacooldad · 18/10/2021 12:02

I love Robert's designs but couldn't live all of them.
We are currently house hunting and as I look on RightMove I show DH living rooms of people's houses and and say ' We could put some steps in there for some random reason and along that wall i was thinking of putting some benches with big cushions'
He just rolls his eyes at me now!

MissMarpleRocks · 18/10/2021 14:21

Our old house & garden were split level - a lot are around here due to the topography. We had to move as I became less mobile.

I never understand why people would put unnecessary steps. It’s a complete bind for the limited mobility & elderly.

We applied for planning to rejig downstairs but it just wasn’t economically viable so moved. I hadn’t been in the garden for at least 5 years. Even with ramps downstairs & in the garden it wasn’t practical on a daily level.

So I pretty much loathe Robert’s designs from that point of view. And breathe.

jay55 · 20/10/2021 20:09

Evening.

I'd have thought a home office where you can't easily be disturbed was ideal.

Halsall · 20/10/2021 20:12

If anyone's watching tonight......a 100k budget.

Quite a big house but it needs pulling together.

OP posts:
jay55 · 20/10/2021 20:17

It's all quite dated and dark so I understand they need more than a new kitchen this time.
But massive budget, do you think they'll stick to it?

Halsall · 20/10/2021 20:18

In a word, no!

OP posts:
notacooldad · 20/10/2021 20:27

I love Will's vision!
Fabulous.

jay55 · 20/10/2021 20:30

Agree, think his design works as the kids get older too with separate spaces.

Love all the lighting effects. A gimmick I can get behind, as easy enough to change if I get bored.

whiteonesugar · 20/10/2021 20:35

I really need to stop watching this show as I tend to remodel my entire house in my head every time 😂

EsmaCannonball · 20/10/2021 20:55

Will's is so much more exciting. Lizzie's design leaves me a bit cold. Hope they choose Will. They're not leaving much time to show the final result. I wonder if they changed their mind.
