Anyone watching? Bench Seat Man has gone!

I thought I'd seen all of Series 1 and 2 but obviously not as that was the first episode I've watched where Robert won the commission.

Seeing him again, I miss him from Series 3. "Why do you need storage? Just get rid of stuff!"

Not sure I liked the perilous ledge between the piano room and the GP's bedroom. Bit dangerous after a few G&Ts surely?

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/06/2021 08:04

Why was there no new episode this week??

EastWestWhosBest · 25/06/2021 08:21

Football I’m guessing.

RubyFowler · 25/06/2021 18:52

Oh wow there's a whole load of series 1 I've never seen before! That's my Friday night sorted.

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/06/2021 21:51

Just checked and apparently it won't be back on till late summer Autumn now for new episodes Sad

mazylou · 26/09/2021 09:41

Apparently back this week.

jay55 · 26/09/2021 15:57

Brilliant, thanks for the heads up.

Halsall · 29/09/2021 19:10

Yes, it's back tonight with a new episode. Till later!

Keepitonthedownlow · 29/09/2021 19:25

Thanks didn't know it was back

jay55 · 29/09/2021 19:57

Sounds a sad one, renovation was planned, then the husband died. Few years later going ahead with it.

Halsall · 29/09/2021 20:03

Oh, that's very sad.

I think I spy some bench seating....

jay55 · 29/09/2021 20:24

I'm not sure the woman is too impressed with the first design. I think it feels a bit cramped. Liked the bathroom idea, if it has to be downstairs.

EsmaCannonball · 29/09/2021 22:26

I liked the end result, although I wouldn't be keen on a windowless bathroom under the stairs. It just felt like too public a place for a room where you want a bit of privacy. It was good to see a renovation which was a bit more achievable, rather than people spending a six-figure sum.

Standrewsschool · 30/09/2021 05:07

I liked the end result also, but was a bit uncertain about the bathroom. Hope there’s good ventilation. However, clever use of the space.

I’m always amazed at how similar the end result is to the concept. The headphone concept things freak me a little.

The mum looked too young to be a grandmother and looked great.

bendmeoverbackwards · 30/09/2021 07:23

I think the other design was better. Would have been nice for the mum to have a nice bathroom next to her bedroom plus the son’s bedroom could have been converted into another living space.

Oddbutnotodd · 30/09/2021 08:33

I thought the design was ok but preferred 2nd one. Didn’t like bathroom under the stairs. Always an overspend - £17k this time. Wonder if they did anything upstairs. Probably not enough money to do that.

jay55 · 30/09/2021 12:44

I expect the second design they'd be worried it would devalue the house if the second bedroom wasn't a clear bedroom.

I liked the end result and that they kept the window, usually things like that go away with the budget.

viques · 01/10/2021 11:12

I thought the bathroom upstairs was a far better solution, the young lad will be off to pastures new soon and his poor mum will still be negotiating the stairs in the middle of the night for a wee. Though I thought the fold down bed option was an odd idea, and I doubt the son would have even fitted on it it looked so tiny. I think they could have squeezed a second loo and mini sink under the stairs as well - that’s what I would have done.

I hate bench seating, awkward to get into unless you are as bendy as a seven year old and then if the person by the wall needs to move it involves too much shifting about.

MissMarpleRocks · 02/10/2021 06:59

I preferred the first design but they were always going to be hampered by the bathroom.

RubyFowler · 03/10/2021 22:05

I'm so glad this is back! I also liked seeing a more modest home and realistic budget. So many of us live in smaller homes now.
I preferred the 1st design, the one they went for. They had a downstairs bathroom anyway.
This way they kept the lovely bay window in their lounge and all that south facing light coming in. No way I'd compromise a nice living room for a bathroom you really don't spend that much time in.
But it's interesting how others feel differently, I guess that's why it's hard to know what's best to do. Especially when you have to consider re sale (not that I think they were really).

RubyFowler · 06/10/2021 14:51

Is it tonight this is on?

Halsall · 06/10/2021 15:50

@RubyFowler yes, at 8pm on BBC2.
