Why else would he kill his self ?

It was it he couldn’t bare to live alone as Louie didn’t want to live in that house ?

Plus if she hates the family business so much , didn’t want any or the stocks bonds business house etx

Why did she work in the family business on prob min wage

Why not work else where

I think he killed himself because his sister told him she knew what he did to Jack and he couldn't live with the guilt. He could cope when it was all hidden, but the shame was too much. I don't know.
Overall I enjoyed it, but once you think about it too much, there are loads of bits which are off.

SleepingStandingUp · 04/06/2021 08:15

I assume same as Sophie re why he did it but just felt there were some loose ties left
Re working there, I think however unhappy you are, it can be hard to cast off family ties whilst they're alive. She loves Jack, it's only him being dead and then Arwel that meant she could possibly free herself. I'm glad she kept it, and she'll have a grand niece of nephew to pass it on to now. Lucky Tamsin

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/06/2021 09:50

So he did abuse jack

Gence maybe why jack didn’t want a child as scared he would do the same

AngryMuppet · 04/06/2021 13:14

And they hadn't ever talked about it. I assumed that Louie was in denial as well until Jack died.

I feel stupid because I thought the abuse stuff was ambiguous for a long time Grin. I thought Arwel could have "just" committed suicide because his son died and Louie forced him to face his own abuse and on top of that told him she thought he was an abuser.

But in the hindsight of it apparently being true, I think he killed himself specifically because Louie said something like "at least dad had the decency to kill himself" or something like that. About showing he felt guilty.

Abuse is a power thing , is that right

I know sadly manu abused, abuse theirselves

Tho surely if was abused and know the horror and shame etc

Why on earth would you repeat the pattern and abuse your own son 😢

It's complex. Learnt behaviour. Taking in that it's one of the ways we show love. Not learning how else to show love. Wanting to rid yourself of the shame. Not wanting to be a victim.

It's like DV, why would you go for the kind of guy who made your Mom cry? Why would you stay once it's happened once? Why would yo do that yourself? They're all too simplistic a question when it comes to the human brain

True @SleepingStandingUp. Nothing is ever black and white

I can’t read the thread in case there are spoilers but is it worth a watch?

We’re halfway through the 1st episode and I’m not convinced so far....

I can't see how someone who murders another person, even if they get away with it, would be unaffected by what they had done.*

It's got to overshadow your life. That girl would need counselling for DECADES!

*unless they are the thankfully rare Fred and Rose West type

SleepingStandingUp · 07/06/2021 08:02

Well yes but I guess the sequel would be where they don't get over it and continue to kill, going on a rampage through the small town whilst their family are too ashamed and scared to act. Eventually they'd end up on the bars by that viaduct thing and throw themselves in.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/06/2021 11:29
@Iamthewombat I thought the same how are they living in that stunning house! She was working on the production line in the brewery and he was a policeman ...odd!
Not even a "top job" policeman.

Jack pulled his own trousers up; you could see him struggling to do it with his hands tied behind his back a couple of times in the flashbacks, in between when the women left him the first time and when Tamsin and her brother arrives.

Also, for those suggesting maybe the brother is actually the father; the brother was clearly gay - signposted several times, by Tamsin's gay male friend trying to get her to set them up, and by him getting a semi-erection when Jack pinned him to the wall.
