I think I'm investing too much time in to this show but I keep thinking about Nance confessing to the murder and thinking how unfair it is. Tamsin killed him, why should she get away with it.

Also did anyone feel a bit of sympathy for jack or is it just me? He was sexually abused by his dad, there was no mention of his mum so assuming she left him or dead.
His strong reaction to Tamsin was because he didn't want any kids to make sure history didn't repeat itself like it did with him.
I liked how they got him to change his laughing to crying before he was killed so he could come across more human. Yes he was a vile guy but he didn't deserve to be murdered.

I have to agree and maybe they would have been more sympathetic towards her because of the pregnancy.

Nancy and sleaze bag vicar not walking off into sunset together.

Why does Mark Lewis Jones play a sleaze bag in everything he's in?

Funnily enough, I was watching The Accident on the weekend and sure enough - there he is, playing a sleazebag! Louie also in one of the main roles.

If Jack hadn't been finished off, the cycle would have been perpetuated. So he had to go, he would have caused carnage for all the family for years and years and that would go on and on through subsequent generations.

I wanted to know how a police sergeant and a brewery production line worker could afford that beautiful house next to the viaduct and two posh cars.

I may have missed the point rather. They went on about a career change (for Max, the police officer husband) a few times, so I thought that was going to be significant.

Iamthewombat · 02/06/2021 16:41

BTW OP, if you can find the BBC ‘Tales from Pleasure Beach’ online (made in the early 2000s I think) you will find Mark Lewis Jones being super seedy. He is a fairground ride owner whose gold neck chain gets caught in the belly button ring of a woman he is copping off with in his car, behind the back of his wife (Ruth Jones). It really does have all of the seedy ingredients. I recommend. One of the other episodes (it was three individual dramas) has Eve Myles as a woman of easy virtue living in a caravan and pinching her mate’s boyfriend. I’ve since seen the boyfriend in Pobol y Cwm, so maybe it is true that only a certain number of welsh actors are allowed to act at any one time!

So do I and the way she spoke to her dd about her high flying career

@Iamthewombat I thought the same how are they living in that stunning house! She was working on the production line in the brewery and he was a policeman ...odd!

ilovebrie8 · 02/06/2021 18:10

I enjoyed it but can’t believe the policeman would go along with the cover up ...and why Nance took the blame? I think it’s setup for a next series where the truth will out...don’t think the daughter should have got away with murder Hmm

This is a feature of most TV dramas. Characters always seem to be living in homes they could no way afford in real life.

Ooh, do we think there's going to be a S2?
Tootingbec · 02/06/2021 22:20

Everything was wrong with this series - although I quite enjoyed the first few episodes.

Nothing made sense. One minute Max was a "career change" lowly PC directing traffic and the next he had gone all Steve Arnott and appeared to be some highly experienced DS. I was hoping there was some interesting back story to this - that he used to be a high flying lawyer or something - but nothing.....

And yes, yes to the lovely house with lots of (what looked like!) Heals furniture on the salary of a PC and brewery worker.

And don't get me started on the production line in the brewery that NEVER moved and the workers could afford to stand around chatting/pointlessly moving empty tins around. I've seen enough Inside the Factory to call foul on this one!

I just found all of this completely unrealistic and distracting from the story.

And then, the biggest sin was that Tamsin killing Jack just didn't make sense. Ok he was a shit but that wasn't a good reason to kill him unless Tamsin is a sociopath, surely? Again, there was hints of a interesting story (coercive control or something) but this was never properly explored. No one seemed in the least concerned that a 17 (?) year old girl had in essence murdered someone in pretty much cold blood.

Just thought it was lazy storytelling full of holes!

My claim to fame - I drove MLJ from his hotel in Cardiff to location in exotic Treorchy for a film we were working on back in '98 or so (him acting ovbs, me production).

mejon · 03/06/2021 20:15

TBH I can't remember 🤣 it was an awful job in many ways and I've erased the worst of it from my memory(!), but I think I remember he'd not long had a new son so we probably talked about that, and he confirmed that he and the equally lovely Julian Lewis Jones are not related.

He was in an S4C programme recently called 'Iaith ar Daith' where a non-Welsh speaker gets some intensive Welsh lessons accompanied by a famous Welsh speaker. MLJ accompanied Joanna Scanlan and they had a great on-screen relationship. As part of the same series, Eiry Thomas (Louie) accompanied Raykie Ayola (the detective).

SleepingStandingUp · 03/06/2021 20:40

I've just started the last episode. I've resisted temptation to read this thread.

Do we know how old Tamsin is?

Jack really is a dispicable little shit isn't he. Preying on school girls, bullying them into an abortion.

Gah. As if you'd leave your sister!!!!!!
Meh, I'm on team her deserved it. I'd let her off if I was on the jury.
So usual expectation would be for Mom to throw herself under the metaphorical bus and take the blame....

SleepingStandingUp · 03/06/2021 21:14

Oooh so Daddy's thinking of a cover story. But the dates will make it clear she'd already had sex with him.

Ooohh Nancy is gonna go down for it? Last goodbye to the vicar, Def should have snogged him.

Nope, Mom after all.

Ah Nancy DID confess.

Reckon the baby would be in line for a major inheritance from he great aunt. Might help with the trauma of Aunty Nancy being in jail for killing Daddy.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 03/06/2021 21:57

Just finished - that was great, last episode was well worth the time spent on the rest

AngryMuppet · 03/06/2021 22:04

He was sexually abused by his dad, there was no mention of his mum so assuming she left him or dead.

She left him and she died, I think they said in the first episode.

Meh, I'm on team her deserved it. I'd let her off if I was on the jury.

It's weird, I was too at the beginning of the finale (not that you really could've let her off since he was tied up and short of a cracking coercive control defence, she couldn't exactly claim self-defence). Now I don't know. I think for me it pissed me off how she seemed to feel entitled to everyone's help and that nobody else questioned it? That she showed nothing but stroppiness the whole way through? I obviously would be beyond devastated and very protective if that was my DD but I think I'd be pissed and not quite so coddling, what with it being murder and all.

He was a horrible piece of shit who clearly proved he wasn't going to change (see: trying to rape Tish literally that same night) but I couldn't stop thinking "is she????" when they kept wittering on about how vulnerable she is. I know she's young and he took advantage of her, but her copper dad was trying to get her off on a phoney self-defence excuse. Not that vulnerable when it came down to it.

Definitely didn't expect to be making this argument when I watched the penultimate episode and said "well, whoever killed him did the world a favour" Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/06/2021 22:36

Yes I missed that but think someone said died of cancer ?

Grandad abused Louie (well tried) then went on to abuse Arwel

It was hinted that he then abused Mark

Maybe why he burnt all his stuff incase proof

Maybe why he tried to kill his self

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 03/06/2021 22:41

Yeah that stuff about the abuse was all left a bit vague and unfinished. Did he burn the stuff to hide that he'd abused his son or that his son was into dodgy stuff too (given were unclear on Tam's age)
