Anyone going to watch?
I started another thread a few weeks ago but I've lost it Confused

OP posts:

Dolli was a big disappointment, I agree Xavi is one to watch.
Samah is this years overly confident one who keeps ending up in the face off.
Where on earth do these identical twin models come from? They're always different ones.
I was surprised they liked Craigs (?) painted face challenge so much.

I felt so sorry for that gorgeous girl he turned into a pink alien/ egg thing in round two!

So did I!

I thought she looked almost on the point of tears! "Foetus" is not a good look.

Where on earth do these identical twin models come from? They're always different ones.

I said to DH that if I were an identical twin I'd be making a living hiring myself and my sister out to shows like this, and medical/psychological trials etc.

We'd be coining it! Grin

I did like Elliot's "lip" better than Samah's, but Samah's was more symmetrical.

HellonHeels · 29/04/2021 18:11

"Bring in the models" gives me the rage. Teen mags in my day used to have articles on avoiding clumpy lashes. Am geriatric.

Pronouns - self conscious. After first few shows Im thinking there is a lot less talent in this series. I mean, were these really the best of the applicants?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/04/2021 20:47

I agree re: the overall standouts Hell - I don't know whether Covid meant that many people couldn't travel to the studio.

There are a couple that look very promising, but the average is lower than usual, I think.

I'm wondering if Samah is going to be like that girl in one of the previous series who was in the face-off week after week but managed to get through to the final (I think) but the skin of her teeth.

Didn't win, thank heavens - she was rubbish! Did things with string one week IIRC.

HeadNorth · 29/04/2021 20:53

I'm really enjoying this series so far and like Maya, she brings a real spark to it. I thought some of the creative looks were great - the Celtic suffragette and the silenced abused woman ripping out her stitches. Great to see something considered so superficial giving political messages. The contestants all seem so young and sincere, I can't help warming to them all.

baldafrique · 29/04/2021 20:54

Xavi or Sophie to win! Also love Jack.

IntermittentParps · 02/05/2021 14:28

I thought some of the creative looks were great - the Celtic suffragette and the silenced abused woman ripping out her stitches.
I loved those too. The woman who did the stitches (can't remember her name Confused ) is ace. She's so emotionally fierce and so open.

Elliott didn't do well so I suppose he had to go (what was his foetus look? Didn't convey anything!). But generally I was liking him and think he would have had lots of interesting stuff to show if he'd stayed. I also didn't get what he meant about his face; I think he's rather beautiful.

LOVED Les from Pose. What a hoot Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2021 15:43

LOVED Les from Pose. What a hoot

I agree - but he didn't suffer fools gladly!

I think if you worked with him he'd expect 100% all if the time and wouldn't settle for a bodge job (and quite right, too). I think that his productions must be fabulous, because he is so fiercely professional.

IntermittentParps · 02/05/2021 16:58

Schadenfreude, my thoughts exactly.

I think the BBC should give him his own show.

mimirouge · 03/05/2021 15:12

Really missing Stacey

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 05/05/2021 00:47

Those blue eyeshadows. Bloody hell. Grin

Ecruelworld · 05/05/2021 10:04

Yes the blue smoky eyes were terrible. Both looked they'd been done by an over enthusiastic 8 year old . I think the winning look had 3 shades of blue so that swung it. But neither looked acceptable really for a competition which is meant to be for the best amateurs.

WouldBeGood · 05/05/2021 12:21

I don’t think the artists are as good this year. I normally watch and feel inspired and in awe, but not so much this time. Or am I just old and grumpy..?

HollowTalk · 05/05/2021 12:30

There isn't anyone outstanding this year, is there? The previous series was particularly good, I thought.

WouldBeGood · 05/05/2021 12:40

Yes, I loved it

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/05/2021 13:48

Blimey!

Just watched on catch-up and was shocked at the low standard! Those final eyes . . . I could do better myself.

I was sorry to lose Xavi, though - I think that he had been much the better MUA in the previous sessions - Alex is living on borrowed time. Sh hasn't nearly the talent nor originality of Xavi - he had a bad week. I thought he was tremendously magnanimous wishing her luck with such enthusiasm and sincerity. Seems a lovely guy - shame we won't see any more of his work.

I was also considerably less impressed with Samah's effort than the judges were. I thought it started well but then just became too much.

jay55 · 05/05/2021 18:56

They should both have gone, the blue eyes were awful. Really awful. The three face off challenges have all been rubbish so far.

That said am also sad Xavi has gone, he has a lot of talent, but maybe struggles with the more open ended challenges. Doing another mask style he had to make it better than before and didn't.

The crown challenge was brilliant, it was a shame many of them didn't listen to the brief (again).

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/05/2021 22:14

Agree they should both have gone, jay55 - I was honestly expecting the judges to either dump both of them, or keep both of them and juggle the numbers in a later episode.

I would have thought that a smokey eye was a basic - 14 year olds can do them. I can only assume that the time factor stressed them out. But my word - they were bad!

mangoMelon · 05/05/2021 23:00

The eyes were horrific. I really thought they’d say they were both shocking and send them both home (and therefore potentially save both on a tighter fought round later in series). Just awful.

Overall the standard does seem lower than in the prior seasons. Hopefully it will pick up as the weeks go on and their confidence grows. I quite like the girl that won the crown challenge that wants to work in tv (Sophie?) and the Irish guy seems good (northern Irish I’m not sure - he moved to london I think he said). There seems to be more and more “characters” on it with unique looks. Fair play they are make up artists it’s to be expected but aren’t there any make up artists out there who have more generic looks too or are they all trying to be unique with their own styles.

I’m not sure if I like the new presenter. I didn’t like Stacey much either tbf so maybe it’s just the presenter role that I struggle with.

mangoMelon · 05/05/2021 23:03

Got sorry for second post but to add...I really like the judges now. They’ve totally grown on me and even the annoying ding dong is alright as it’s quite tongue-in-cheek now too. They have good critique and some good chat between them when watching the contestants at work.

Violetroselily · 06/05/2021 00:08

I agree the judges have got much better. I thought they were both total knobbers in series 1 but they've definitely toned down the gimmicks.

Maya is growing on me but tbh I'd take anyone over Stacey.

ScienceSensibility · 06/05/2021 00:39

The standard is much lower this series, with one or two notable exceptions. Maybe because of covid reducing applicants?

As a group they seem to be trying to ‘out woke’ each other, I’ve never heard so much reference to ‘bullying’ in a programme not about bullying..

That Liverpool MUA is awful, how has she survived so long?

The Crown challenge was great, really separated the wheat from the chaff. So many of them just could not think beyond their ‘usual’ look with the black slug over defined eyebrows and contour. The two who won the chance to work on the show were really smart.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/05/2021 10:07

I'm another one who has warmed to the judges - especially the woman. That "ding-dong" used to make my teeth curl, never mind my toes, but now she seems to be doing it, as Violet said more tongue-in-cheek, and I don't mind it.

Agree that the Crown challenge really sorted them out, and also the "bullying' complaints.

So they were bullied as children. So was I. So were a hell of lot of people - it's bloody awful, and I don't mind it being mentioned once but I don't want t hear about it every week.

The lad who went last week said he'd been mocked and bullied because of his "asymmetrical" features, and he emphasised them when he did his own "mask", but honestly, when I saw him without make up I didn't notice anything outstandingly unusual about his features at all - he was just an averagely pleasant-looking man - not handsome, not plain - just average (the way most of us are).

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/05/2021 10:10

That Liverpool MUA is awful, how has she survived so long?

She really is grim, isn't she?

Cocks up every challenge and just whines "This isn't me - I'm really so much better - I've gorra pull something out of the hat and show them I can do this" and never does.

Violetroselily · 06/05/2021 10:49

Does anyone know when the series was filmed? I think I read that it was January 2021...I'm just amazed there is absolutely no hint of covid at all. I know they'll have been following protocols and testing etc, but you'd honestly think this was filmed in completely normal times. Unless I've not been watching properly and have missed a rogue mask Grin
