New thread... really hope the title doesn’t offend anyone! I actually really admire how sensitively the story was handled!

Anyway... Corrie in 1998.

She was nasty to Deirdre today.
I had totally forgotten about greg Kelly. The battersby family tree is complex.

I love the Deirdre in prison scenes. They were so successful at the time that ITV created the fabulous and ridiculous Bad Girls to capitalise on the interest.

Poor Alma,and Angie too. Mike is a one .

I’m catching up after a few days behind. It’s only just occurred to me after all these years - Deirdre and Jon were tried and sentenced together, yet we only saw the prosecution and Deirdre’s defence. Didn’t Jon have defending counsel?

Seeing Jackie again, I do wonder why they bothered with the ‘Tyrone was a foundling’ story when they brought in Maureen Lipman. Evelyn could easily have been Jackie’s estranged mum. There’s only about 12 years between the actresses, but that’s still five more than there is between Sue Nicholls and Helen Worth! They could easily have fudged the character ages to make it realistic.

The actress playing Officer Veitch was born to play a sadistic prison warden. That or a no-nonsense nurse

This takes me back to a really happy time.
I was at university, I'd met a great love and I was having the time of my life! I had free Deirdre posters all over my door!

I'm finding I have to go onto my guide and press record on each episode for the week ahead. Even though I am pressing 'record series' it's not picking it up.

Thank you. I've sent it to record at 6am and then again in the afternoon. Looking at the planner, it seems to have just randomly dropped Classic Corrie from the list.

Very annoying! We've just had a week away so I came back to 10 episodes waiting for me on my planner. Bliss! ☺️

I had my kids in the 90s, but looking back, I find it really shocking the way everyone smoked around babies...indoors...in shops and stuff. When they showed Leanne and Zoe puffing away in the Kabin, with baby Shannon coughing away...they wouldn't even be allowed to film stuff like that these days. Back then it was normal I guess.

My first baby was born in 1991, there was a smoking room on the post natal floor. By the time my third one arrived in 1996 mums had to go outside.

Those were the days, eggandonion. Everywhere had smoking rooms. Seems strange now. There was great cameraderie in smoking areas though, I remember that from work (I used to smoke, gave up 2008). I would meet people from other floors, other departments, and make contacts. It was very friendly. Sometimes non smokers would join us.

I worked in a place with a staff canteen in the eighties, two thirds of the tables were for smokers. The first aid room was also used as a smoking room. And the boss used to set the sprinklers off with his pipe.

When I first qualified as a nurse in the mid 90,s patients could smoke in the day room ,I was a mental health nurse,so some patients were in hospital for quite a while ,can't have been pleasrnt for those that didn't smoke ,when I left some 20 years later it was a non smoking trust .

When my Mother had me in hospital in the late 60s, new mums used to smoke in their beds. The hairdresser visited the ward too!

I qualified as a mental health nurse too, but in the 80s. I remember patients smoking anywhere they wanted, but not in dorms or bedrooms. There were even ashtrays in the bathrooms.

The nursing office was a nightmare for me as a non-smoker. Handovers always resulted in a banging headache. Up to 10 nurses sat around chain smoking.

Ooh, that rotten Veitch! How could she? (And was ‘Veitch’ really the closest to ‘bitch’ the scriptwriters could come up with?)

Adam Rickitt looked like he’d smelled a really bad fart when Darren Whately revealed his identity.

Yep some of the nurses were worse than the patients for chain smoking! Staff were not allowed to smoke in the office by the time I started ,but the smoke room was always packed 🤣
