New thread... really hope the title doesn’t offend anyone! I actually really admire how sensitively the story was handled!

Anyway... Corrie in 1998.

I have kiddies the same age as you!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 23/04/2021 16:32

@Iwantacampervan

'Free the Weatherfield One'! I know it's been asked before but what exactly did Jon get out of this?
I think that’s how they made Deirdre being sent to jail work. He was supposed to be a complete fantasist; to even believe his own lies. Had he made any financial gain, Deirdre would have had a much stronger case.

I know they didn’t choose Liz as a character witness because she’s a rough old gangster’s moll, but she was there the night Deirdre met Jon. If she’d testified to the fact that he’d told Deirdre that night that he was a pilot, it would have put a hole in his story that the whole thing was Deirdre’s idea.

@KarensChoppyBob

Thanks OP for new thread.

I thought this was a little well-kept MN retro TV secret but Old-school Corrie's popularity was mentioned on LooseWomen today,

Our numbers are increasing (!)

I believe Classic Corrie and Emmerdale are ITV3’s top-rated shows.

I have to rush to turn it off when Corrie finishes or my dh wanders in with coffee and starts to watch Morse/Foyle/Midsummer etc instead of doing his proper work.
He seems to remember more Classic Corrie than me.

Liverbird77 · 23/04/2021 18:25

I posted in thread 4 by mistake, but want to say Samantha's character has taken an unbelievable turn.
She used to be really cool and now she's acting like a hard nosed horror.

KarensChoppyBob · 23/04/2021 19:26

Yes Samantha's character seems to have done a very quick turnaround from the time she threw his trousers out the window. Are we meant to think that since Des helped her with her sexual past she's now insatiable and doesn't care?

eggandonion · 23/04/2021 19:59

I keep getting ads for Mark's and Spencer pyjamas.

x2boys · 23/04/2021 20:38

Also Des and Natalie are being a tad hypocritical,considering the whole Des ,Tanya and Raquel scenario ,and Natalie having an affair with Kev

thenightsky · 23/04/2021 20:44
@x2boys

My daughters were born in 1991 and 1993, I used Pampers too, and sometimes Huggies.

Both brands had separate boys and girls nappies
DS was born in 1991 too. I remember buying Pampers. Do modern nappies not have boy and girl versions these days then?

x2boys · 23/04/2021 21:13

Not as far as I know @thenightsky my boys were born in 2006 and 2010 we used pampers ,Huggies ,Asda,s own etc they were all uni sex ,not sure when they phased out Male and Female Nappies ??

eggandonion · 23/04/2021 21:19

I need to know this stuff, so I can be a good granny. I need to start wannabe granny chat!
When does Blanche move in? I assume Tracey is currently having a new head.

MrsDoctorDear · 24/04/2021 11:05

Also, in the latest edition of ‘Ooh, what’s she been in?’, the court clerk is Elizabeth Feldmann/Pollard of Emmerdale fame.

Thanks for that, was really puzzling me!

We laugh every time Drearie fake cries. Does not shed one actual tear, just scrunches her face up.

I think I'm taking more notice this time around, and agree that Emily was a cracking character. You forget.
Still no explanation where Angie has been for months, since she moved in with Curly.

MrsDoctorDear · 24/04/2021 11:09

Oh and I assume Leanne and Nicky will get Chris's flat now it's available, on her big fat £4 an hour.

Maggiesfarm · 24/04/2021 11:34

I know I am impatient but does Jon get his comeuppance eventually and how? I want Deidre out of prison pronto. I'd like his wife to see sense and - LTB!

x2boys · 24/04/2021 12:33

He does and it won't be long so don't worry @Maggiesfarm

Maggiesfarm · 24/04/2021 13:08

Thank you x2boys. I'm relieved :-).

FromDespairToHere · 25/04/2021 20:31

@StillCoughingandLaughing

Was it ever made clear why Tracy luv didn’t come back to support her mother for the trial?

Also, in the latest edition of ‘Ooh, what’s she been in?’, the court clerk is Elizabeth Feldmann/Pollard of Emmerdale fame.

Dawn Acton had her son in Jan 1998 so that's why she wasn't in it, not sure why they didn't mention Tracy at all though!
WheresThatCatGoneNow · 25/04/2021 21:44

Well well, look who it is. Tyrone's mum!

The trial - and the verdict - really don't inspire much confidence in our legal system IMO 😲

Did Deirdre ever get any compensation for such a wrongful conviction?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 25/04/2021 21:49

Emily really put all of her heart and soul, and oodles of imagination into those posters, didn't she? Grin

She must have spent, oooh, seconds, designing them! Hmm

TabooNCoke · 26/04/2021 00:09

Kevin's getting more shouty than Curly. Annoying that Sally's still running around after him offering him some tea. Should have followed Chris down the road and let him parent his own kids for a change.

MrsDoctorDear · 26/04/2021 00:53

I read Denise Welch's autobiography a while back, she explained about her terrible time with depression. While filming Corrie she was taking cocaine, she even said while filming Betty's 80th birthday scene she had to run out of the set to meet her dealer and take coke before carrying on filming.
She only stopped when she became pregnant in real life with her 2nd son, they wrote the pregnancy into the storyline.
I've been watching Natalie like a hawk but haven't noticed a thing. Not that I know what to look out for!

KarensChoppyBob · 26/04/2021 06:09

Yeah you can tell if you know what to look for, around the eyes, she looks like she's been up all night which in fairness she probably was. That's also the slimmest she ever was, again cocaine = reduced appetite.

x2boys · 26/04/2021 09:46

Both the Defence and Prosecution were terrible ,they could have asked Mrs Lindsay far more questions,where the hell did she think John was for half the week🤔,And that Barrister Mike hired was about as useful as a chocolate tea pot
WheresThatCatGoneNow · 26/04/2021 13:22

Never mind Tracy being conspicuously absent, I would have expected Blanche to have turned up long before now to support her daughter.

Is it possible that she knows nothing about what has been happening?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 26/04/2021 13:27

Jackie Dobbs scares me!

She might be being 'pleasant' enough in her own way, but I always get the feeling that one wrong word could turn her into a very nasty piece of work indeed 😲

Watch your step, Deirdre!
