New thread... really hope the title doesn’t offend anyone! I actually really admire how sensitively the story was handled!

Anyway... Corrie in 1998.

@CounsellorTroi

Everyone female has their hair short or bobbed, apart from Linda. Not like the ubiquitous long hair of today.
Nita also has rather luscious long locks.

@Akire

Not watched it with Raquel in so not sure what she was like. Thought so mean say you have 2.5y old. What was backstory at the time? Funny how mobiles just started and camera just being a thing. Hence carrying photographs around. Oh how times have changed.
She was barmaid at the rovers ,she was in a on off relationship with Des ,who never treated it as a serious relationship ,although she was in love with him ,she had been out with Curly and they were friends ,but he was in love with her but she didn't really feel the same ,after being treated badly by Des once to often ,she proposed to curly and they got married in secret,the marriage lasted less than a year and she left Curly heartbroken .There is more details but that's about the jist of it .

Thanks so no real reason not to say about the baby. Certainly not for that long!

x2boys, nothing particularly soap-worthy, wore ridiculous heels, got sore feet, got told off by bf for wearing ridiculous heels..all got a bit fuzzy but I last remember holding them in a hotel bar somewhere past Marble Arch.

Looking forward to catching up with these last episodes now, going by the comments.

Oh dear I remember the days of ridiculous heels ,🤣

Sarah Lancashire’s return reminded me of when Victoria Wood did behind the scenes at Acorn Antiques, I know she.s highly rated but seems very grand and slightly above it all. Raquel really used Curly: very odd to turn up when and how she did and leave for France the next day - why didn’t she bring lAlice Diana with her? Poor Curly, again. The previous NYE episode was so good, I wanted a continuation.

Gumbomambo · 17/01/2022 19:06

Right caught up. Poor silly naive Leanne, if I remember this is an ongoing storyline with Jen Quigley. At the time I remember watching the Raquel and curly storyline and we all loved it. Watching back? What a bitch but god he was an angry drip, it was really well done though and I tried to look at from a perspective of 21 years ago. Eagerly awaiting Linda and Mikes storyline to play out. TEAM ALMA. I thought Audreys scenes around her loneliness and Alf were very touching too. Alison and Kev Meh. Love Machiavellian Blanche one of the all time favourites of soap history.

I was on the north bank opposite the millennium wheel, it was fantastic for about four minutes, a posh bloke in a DJ whacked a student on the head with a bottle of Krug and it all kicked off. It took six hours to get home and we ran out of vodka on the way.

x2boys · 17/01/2022 19:14

Did any of us have a good millennium I wonder 🤔

Housewife2010 · 18/01/2022 12:17

I found the Curly & Raquel episode dull at the time and 22 years later I feel the same.

Gumbomambo · 18/01/2022 13:11

I always loved Raquel at the time, I think you are right the two hander was a bit of a let down now and then. I am sure a remember seeing a straight to video of curly and other characters going to France which was terrible.

MrFsAunt · 19/01/2022 06:13

Lol at yesterday's convo between Tyrone & Rita;

Rita: SatNav, what's that?

x2boys · 19/01/2022 06:50

Lol Rita Google will blow your mind 🤣

MrFsAunt · 19/01/2022 08:12

I think MN would blow her mind Grin

CounsellorTroi · 19/01/2022 13:15

There is something very vintage looking about Alison, and I mean that in a good way!

BrambleRoses · 19/01/2022 14:55

What year are we on? I love classic corrie but always forget to watch it!

eggandonion · 19/01/2022 15:00

Early 2000 now, we are catching up fast!

Housewife2010 · 19/01/2022 15:02

I remember the lace trimmed "thermal" style vest and cardigan trend that new barmaid Amy is wearing in today's episode. I had a pink lace trimmed cardigan from Jigsaw.

It’s going to be very weird when storylines I remember appear again … I started watching around 2003!
eggandonion · 19/01/2022 16:23

I have been watching since the seventies and have forgotten more than i remember. Classic got me through lockdown!

WomanStanleyWoman · 19/01/2022 17:06

Just caught up on a few days’ worth. I did shed a few tears at Curly and Raquel Sad

It’s amazing how many of the youngsters are still around today - Tyrone, Toyah, Leanne, Sarah (and I suppose Steve is still just about a youngster!) I know the women have all had breaks, but I don’t think anyone would have expected them still to be in it 22 years on.

I’d forgotten how big sideburns were in the late 90s/early 00s. Dev, Vik and Steve all look like they’re in an Elvis lookalike contest!

Akire · 19/01/2022 17:15

Catching up too, Martin is being awful to Gail as nagging as she is chasing her and this Ben going on ages now. Poor Gail and the kids!
