@MargotMoon Happy Valley - it’s only on BritBox. It was on BBC iPlayer for quite a while but is now off it...

I think HV is excellent. Gripping from the start.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/03/2021 20:23

AH - Happy Valley - I got myself mixed up sorry.

Yes - HV is a brilliant programme.

MargotMoon · 27/03/2021 21:08

Fantastic, thank you @Hels20 I was looking at doing a Britbox trial so will make sure I binge that if I'm not going to keep it afterwards!

PolloDePrimavera · 27/03/2021 23:05

Margot can I recommend Cracker, if you do do BritBox? We have rediscovered it thanks to the Susan Lynch link on the first thread. I love it and you could play a drinking game for every time you see someone with a fag on.

Councilworker · 28/03/2021 05:07

Random musings from the last thread.

I wonder if Fiona isn't married to her partner because she would have had to give father's name and occupation on the marriage certificate and have her details published. I mean I know she lied about everything else in her life but maybe that was too much/too official. And if she became a copper for her dad's benefit then why was he not there when she passed out as a probationer?

Robert Fogerty was described as being unable to work through alcoholism. Did he actually rent the storage unit? Will the bank statements show someone else was paying for it?

I had another point but I've forgotten it. I think Liz and Fiona killed him and then Liz took over dealing with the remains and hid the body. Her dad helped. Monday needs to hurry up!!

aramox · 28/03/2021 07:07

I think it was the head freezer they were looking for. They knew the bigger one came from the cellar.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 28/03/2021 09:51

@AuntieStella

Joining this thread, having lurked on the last, and just caught up in watching.

Cassie said that they didn't know nearly enough about Fog. It's made to look too glib to blame the dead guy with the head, but it could be right. He was second out of the car, taller (and faster?) than Ram, could easily have got there first. We know nothing of his background and whether high end fountain pens might feature. Or what he did instead of a police career

Ram and Liz would be the main architects of the cover up. And are perhaps both more bent as coppers than we're meant to believe at first.

We don't know much but we do know that he died young, in chaos (his house was a mess, the house clearance guy said so) with drug and alcohol problems as had his parents before him. Safe to say his life unravelled after he was kicked out of the police force.
Chicchicchicchiclana · 28/03/2021 09:56

Maybe Fiona wanted to keep her upbringing (policeman father) secret because he was a notoriously bent copper ?? Grin

Sorry - meant to add

Grin Grin Grin

to my post but the dog nudged my arm.

Hels20 · 28/03/2021 12:01

@PolloDePrimavera - I second Cracker. Some brilliant guest stars too (first episode has Adrian Dunbar in it). I never watched it first time round but did binge it during first lockdown when I lamented and bought BritBox...

SirVixofVixHall · 28/03/2021 15:18

We still don’t know why none of them had family at their passing out ceremony.
You would think that Liz and Fiona would have had someone there ? Obv not Dean, but all the others. What is the link there ?
Only one day to go !

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2021 14:02

Sooooooooo last one tonight

Sunny and the team narrow down the suspects

Will they find conclusive proof of who the murder weapon belongs to

Still think it’s hard to ram a pen into someone’s brain

This is an awfully long day ...

GinGinGin

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 14:45

Let the binge watching of episodes 1-5 commence!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/03/2021 15:03

Can’t rem who I said it was

Need force with pen

Maybe was fog

Can’t imagine ram or sn dad doing that

We don’t know anything about fog

Apart he started drinking and left police and died

Maybe he killed him

OP posts:
SirVixofVixHall · 29/03/2021 15:34

I thought the pen was rammed in after an existing head wound and fracture ? Maybe I got that wrong ?
Five and half hours to wait....I have just had a delivery of biscuits....

Dailyhandtowelwash · 29/03/2021 15:41

DH said this morning that we had the Only Connect final to watch tonight. He was a bit taken aback when I barked 'and UNFORGOTTEN' at him. It's the only thing we need to watch live all week, as our ITV Hub thing doesn't let us see it till its finished airing, and I'm a bit nervous that the hour change will have thrown the kids off enough to cause bedtime antics.

JemimaTab · 29/03/2021 16:57

Yes I’m sure the pathologist said the weapon was rammed into the wound.
I think, at this point, it’s not particularly important who dealt the actual killing blow - though I’m (fairly) sure we’ll find out tonight. The main point is that they’re all implicated in covering it up, and they have all suffered major consequences in their personal and/or professional lives as a result. I think the series is more about the impact on the people involved, than the actual crime itself.
I expect Sunny to be more central tonight - not just because of Cassie’s accident, but because there is some kind of unresolved racial issue there I think. Looking back at his interactions with Ram and also the interview with the police instructor, where Cassie was kind of blocking Sunny’s questioning. But obvs could be completely wrong on this.

StanfordPines · 29/03/2021 17:06

I’ll be watching tomorrow probably as we don’t have live tv.

I’ve not watched Happy Valley but I’m tempted because we have Britbox at the moment.
As for Cracker, I loved it at the time and have been rewatching. One episode was filmed outside the flat I was living in at the time.

aramox · 29/03/2021 17:25

Is the inference that the pen was rammed in to make someone complicit? (But then what about the SNAIL?) There may be homicide here if ds hasn't done his hw and got out of the living room by 9pm. Is it a coincidence that both Fogarty and the victim come from families troubled by drink and drugs?

BruceAndNosh · 29/03/2021 17:30

I've finished my rewatching of eps 1 to 5, all set for the finale.
My money's on Liz, with the theory someone suggested on last thread that Walshyboy wasn't dead when they put him in boot. She saw him moving when she checked when she left car outside Robs, and she finished him off because he assaulted Fiona.

Outstanding queries...
Why doesn't Ram's dad speak to him? Doesn't he have an Equity card?
Why does Dean need to smuggle stuff from Calais when he is Kent's Air Conditioning Magnate?
Why did everyone tell Cassie she looked knackered when Nicola Walker was looking fresh faced and glowing?
Why is Fiona married to Ron Wesley?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 29/03/2021 18:28

This story has echoes of the Donna Tartt novel The Secret History if anyone has read that?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 29/03/2021 18:29

I'm going to miss you guys and this thread!

I can't get involved in the Line Of Duty thread, it's too busy.

SingToTheSky · 29/03/2021 18:51

I’ve not read that @Chicchicchicchiclana is it good? I can’t remember if her books are very long or I’m thinking of someone else

I’ve rewatched episodes 1-4 today, will watch 5 shortly. And then try and make sure I am undisturbable for the last one tonight!

Fiona and Geoff’s relationship just seems so... non existent. Having watched back and not noticing any overt suggestion that the kids aren’t fiona’s, I just feel like she’s never loved him and got with him to try and have the stability she never had in childhood or through training/alcoholism.

It bugged me that Matthew’s son said his mum died when he was 7, but I swear earlier they’d said the mum had ODed 15 years back. Which would mean plumber dude (who didn’t look 30) was born several years after his dad died. However I may have misremembered/misheard.

I want to try Happy Valley but can’t if it’s gone from Netflix. I watched the first few episodes once but then lapsed. I’m super excited about a new three parter on itv next month (too close).
