I want Ram to get off, on a bunch of technicalities and mistrials and come into the team. But I'm in lala land.

BentBastard · 31/03/2021 11:34

Thank you Stanford for asking this. I was going to ask something similar and forgot to. I wasn't sure whether this teams entire remit was super old cases or whether they just happened to get all the old ones thrown their way Confused

Forced to work with the people who discovered his drugs-running other life? As a sort of restorative justice?

Works for me. Grin

@Druidlookingidiot

Anna Maxwell Martin ✔️
No!

She was horrible to Ted in "Line of Duty" and I haven't yet forgiven her for it.

So do I.

Meanwhile Fiona turns out to be the one who chopped the body up and never gets out of jail.

I don't like Fiona . . . Angry

Can we have Dean getting off on a technicality, too, please? "Balance of mind disturbed" or something - Nasty Matthew had killed his brother.

Also Liz to just get sacked and put on probation because she was thieving to protect the vulnerable vulnerable my arse Fiona and has been the World's Best Lady Copper ever since.

So - all of them released except Flakey Fiona.

Ulysses · 31/03/2021 12:25

AMM has had very little warmth about her the few roles I've seen her in. Her character in Motherland is awful to everyone around her.

Not for this role but has anyone watched No Offence with the brilliant Joanna Scanlan. I always thought of her as Terri Coverly in In The Thick of It but she was excellent as the lead in this, capable and in the prime of her life to paraphrase Wikipedia.

margoyuwer · 31/03/2021 12:58

I dont know what the time difference was between series 3 and series 4, but did the team not have anyone covering Cassie and did Sunny not get promoted, she just seem to swan straight back into her office.

diddl · 31/03/2021 14:25

Liz White??

CorCordium · 31/03/2021 14:42

I really want to know that Fiona didn’t feel she had to sleep with her BIL. He was horrible.

mistermagpie · 31/03/2021 14:53

I really want Sunny to get the promotion and have Fran as his sidekick. She's so diligent and understated but you know she'd really g we her teeth into any mystery. I love the character of Sunny and I think giving him more to do would bring him out.

I love Sarah Lancashire but she's all wrong for this I think and I couldn't watch it if it was Suranne Jones, she is nowhere near as good an actress as she thinks she is.

mistermagpie · 31/03/2021 14:56

@CorCordium

This was another weird strand of the story that just went nowhere. It made no sense either because her mortgage panic had nothing to do with the murder, it was to do with the dangerous driving conviction which she knew about when she started the mortgage process. So why panic about it at the 11th hour?

And we saw her drive home crying? Why? Because she'd slept with him or because he was going to tell her boring husband (who wouldn't have given a shit anyway because she could have done literally anything and he wouldn't have batted an eyelid, as we later found out) which is what he did in the end?

Billandben444 · 31/03/2021 15:11

What do Murder Investigation Teams do when there isn't one? Decorate the spare room? Do they say 'Oh wowser, a murder! Thank heavens for that - needn't give the gloss a second coat'?

Henrynextdoor · 31/03/2021 15:19

RIP Cassie with your beautiful eyes.

Looking forward to watching more of Sunni, he's superb.

Nith · 31/03/2021 15:26

@KittyMcKitty

I’m pleased (I think) it’s continuing as I love Sunny / Sanjeev. My preference would be for Sunny to be promoted to Cassies role and Fran promoted to Sunny’s.
They've said they're bringing someone new in instead of Nicola Walker, so that looks unlikely.
Nith · 31/03/2021 15:27

@oneglassandpuzzled

I loved the depiction of a close relationship between a man and woman that was a friendship based on respect for one another. Very moving.
Absolutely. That was what made the scene in the graveyard so sad.
Nith · 31/03/2021 15:32

She was horrible to Ted in "Line of Duty" and I haven't yet forgiven her for it.

Ah, but she gets credit for all sorts of splendid stuff during the war and subsequently in The Bletchley Circle.

Pomegranatespompom · 31/03/2021 16:38

No to
Suranne Jones
Anna Maxwell whatever - so awful in lod
Jodie W
Sarah Lancashire

Much better to have Sunny and the understated sidekick imo

PuppyMonkey · 31/03/2021 16:52

Somebody (not sure where?!!) mentioned Maxine Peake. She might work?

Keeley Hawes could probably put on her Lindsay Denton outfit and wig and pass muster too?

sleepyhead · 31/03/2021 16:58

Urg NOT Keeley Hawes please.

I'd like Sanjiv Baskhar to get the lead - I can definitely see his character stepping up into the roll and maybe mentoring a more hot-headed, less sympathetic junior sidekick into understanding the importance of seeing the job through and looking at the whole picture.

Agree!
joanna67 · 31/03/2021 18:33

I must be the only person who didn't rate this. I'm not a fan of Nicola Walker. Too much grimacing, pausing and just utter misery for me. And she's the same in everything I've seen her in.

The storyline was ok, but dragged out for too many episodes and so many strands that went nowhere and were never addressed again. I found that annoying and it's poor writing.

Sunni is great. He's a terrific actor.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 31/03/2021 18:40

I agree Sanjiv Baskhar is a great actor and Sunni is a great character.

His struggles with Ram Sidhu this series were a really good bit of the story that I would have like to have seen more of. At times when others are dismissing Ram 'playing the race card' you can see on Sunni's face that he thinks he might have a point but is struggling to say so.

I think it would be great to have an Asian senior officer on a TV cop show. So much you could do with that.

Pomegranatespompom · 31/03/2021 18:46

I agree with many pp - hope Fiona gets a long stretch and that Dean somehow gets off. Such fab acting - his confession was very moving. I wish we had more answers though - maybe we should lobby the writer !

CherryValanc · 31/03/2021 18:50

Oh, I like the idea of Sunny promoted and then mentoring a new get results-whatever recruit to be calm, methodical and considerate a la Cassie and him.

If the new actress is for that role then I think younger would work (though I still prefer the idea of an actress over 40). I definitely don't want to see an actress brought in to be glamourous window dressing, Any new character needs her personality to be her draw and the actress for her acting ability.

SweetestThing · 31/03/2021 18:55

Monica Dolan as the new one in charge? Hugely versatile and very under-rated actor.
