Anyone watching?
The people always do seem genuinely happy with their transformations but I always really dislike the hair and clothes styling! Grin
Glad for them though that they do seem to get their confidence back which is what it’s all about.

I always think the new teeth definitely make a difference!

TheChosenTwo · 25/03/2021 22:15

Absolutely, changes a face totally.
Would love to get mine all straight!!

They tend to have slim women I think.

Florabella · 25/03/2021 22:50

I thought the first lady tonight had a really pretty face, but they gave her a hairstyle that was far too harsh for her face. And the second hairstyle was straight out of the 70s

TheChosenTwo · 25/03/2021 23:41

@Rummikub I’ve seen quite a variation of sizes on past episodes I’ve seen but tonight they were both slim, and perhaps last week too (I’ve forgotten already!).
But yes @Florabella - I do always think the hair looks frankly ghastly Shock and styled in a very old fashioned way - fine if that’s what they want to wear their hair like but at the end of the day they have to go home and they’re stuck with that cut until their next hair appointment! I have to say I never rate their hair or clothes at all, just terrible choices.
The power suits are probably just not me, but at one point they had one of them women in flarey trousers tucked into what looked like wellies from the camera angle.
I think they put them in these ‘strong statement outfits’ for the purpose of the real dramatic transformation but they are trying to find a new style for themselves, presumably for daily life! They’re not going to be wearing these things on a daily basis, maybe there needs to be more of an emphasis on a daily wardrobe rather than one (garish) outfit.

Anyway, I do like seeing how the people being transformed really come out of their shell and seem to be genuinely thrilled with the makeovers, they always look like they have gained bags of confidence which is lovely.

Don’t think they are anywhere near as good as they used to be. Especially the hairdressing.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/03/2021 07:44

'I thought the first lady tonight had a really pretty face, but they gave her a hairstyle that was far too harsh for her face.'

Yes she was really pretty with good skin and actually looked younger before the hair do than after. A glossy bob would have suited her much better and been easier to maintain. The clothes person just seems to want to make them dress weirdly like she does, not actually suiting the personality of the person.

notacooldad · 26/03/2021 07:49

I really didn't like the hair on the any who had lost 10st.

When she first came on I thought she looked pretty ok and didn't "neec" that much doing for a transformation.
Whether they look 10 years younger or not is pretty much irrelevant, I feel. I think the important thing is how much of a boost their new image gives them. So far they have all seemed happy with the results.

As a side note I was shocked that John Vial charges £1000 for a cut and blow dry for new client. Sue looked like Sharon Osborne by the time he finished with her. I thought he gave her an aging style! Amanda's hair looked great.

PandoraP · 26/03/2021 08:37

I think the lady who had lost the weight was very pretty and could just had gone to then hair dresser for a nice hair cut and some advise about light make up in Boots. She would have been better off with help from a stylist in John Lewis. I think her hair and clothes made her look older and wasn’t really “her”.

I really agree.
I said to Dh that there was nothing "wrong" with her.
I understand how Amanda the other lady was feeling and was really pleased that she was so happy at the end.
I got a bit teary!

TellingBone · 26/03/2021 09:54

I had to check whether this was a repeat of an old series from the 2000s or thereabouts.

The clothes are awful. Shiny cheap blouses and dull nondescript frocks. That poor woman's hair last night - so old fashioned and will need a lot of maintenance every day not to look like a flat, floppy mess.

Looks very low budget.

Standrewsschool · 26/03/2021 10:00

Both ladies looked so much more confident at the end, and their eyes sparked.

I thought the first one looked great in all the boho stuff. The hair looked great also, but I thought was too dramatic a change? Also, wasn’t an easy style to maintain. I missed the beginning of the programme - was she a boho person before or was that a new look for her?

The second lady looked amazing as well. I think her overall look was probably easier to maintain.

IrmaFayLear · 26/03/2021 10:07

That first lady’s hair!!!! She was a pretty woman and when they did the big reveal she looked like a prison warder on a night out.

The thing is they are doing it a bit on the cheap. I remember “The Swan” on US tv where they did plastic surgery on people etc and it took six months. On this show - a bit of dentistry, a few shots of Botox, a dramatic new do and some Matalan polyester.

TheChosenTwo · 26/03/2021 11:12

And what happens when the fillers etc all wear off a year down the line? It’s one thing if they decide they like it, will prioritise saving for it and can afford the upkeep, but what if they can’t? They will possibly end up feeling low about their image again.
I just can’t get over the hair and clothes really, £1000 Grin what a joke, he’s not doing a great job for them!

OP posts:
IrmaFayLear · 26/03/2021 11:18

In ten days there wasn’t time to do proper crowns etc, so they were wearing a set of plastic choppers which could have shot out at any moment. I hope the programme paid for the whole course of dentistry!

TheChosenTwo · 26/03/2021 11:41

It’s all just a bit Changing Rooms isn’t it? Quick rush jobs for the sake of a speed turnaround. I agree that their hair was so styled but hopefully they were cut into manageable styles for day to day and they have been shown how to do it.
And I totally agree with the prison warden comment, she was naturally pretty and the hair was so severe! That lady didn’t strike me as someone who would be willing to spend ages blow drying and faffing around with her hair on a daily basis Shock of course I might be wrong.

What channel is this news series on please? Have googled but it throws up the old series with Nicky Hambleton Jones...

IrmaFayLear · 26/03/2021 12:21

Channel 5 Thursday evenings

TheChosenTwo · 26/03/2021 12:21

I believe it’s channel 5 but it could possibly have been c4!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/03/2021 12:55

On the one with the short hair, was it only me who thought the colour hadn't gone right through to the front on the short side? Looked a bit grey? Or was that actually deliberate...

Buggerthebotox · 26/03/2021 15:25

Both seemed very happy with the results. I don't think any of them looked "younger" though.

The second woman's hair was very 70s and looked high maintenance.

I agree with the previous poster who said the show should be more about creating a look that is easy to maintain. It woujd be more realistic and accessible.

I often wonder if the women featured actually keep up with the styling in the long term.

JustDanceAddict · 26/03/2021 18:25

I’m watching it now. The first one’s new hair is terrible! I’m sure they could’ve conditioned and coloured it and given her a Bob.
I guessed her age as similar to me, and was right. I’d still say she looks the same age 😆

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/03/2021 18:28

Also, was it only me who winced when first lady was seen washing her face with soap, then complaining how dry her skin was? Soap would do it, you silly billy. Really drying. A missed opportunity to say "Don't wash with soap" and they went straight into the make up instead.
