Anyone watching?
The people always do seem genuinely happy with their transformations but I always really dislike the hair and clothes styling! Grin
Glad for them though that they do seem to get their confidence back which is what it’s all about.

Agree the styling is dire, but the stylist looks straight out of the 80s so I guess it's a foregone conclusion she'll style people the same way.

You absolutely wouldn't see anyone under 40 with hair like that and there's a reason for that. And the country waistcoat and braces . . .

Thewinterofdiscontent · 15/04/2021 22:29

Nick clearly saw himself as a rock gird. They could gave channeled his long hair and gone a bit Neil Morrissey.

They highlighted his worse feature which were his massive wonky teeth.
I felt sorry for his lovely girlfriend.

SueSaid · 15/04/2021 22:33

'They highlighted his worse feature which were his massive wonky teeth'

Yes whitening those horrors was never going to be enough. Sometimes dentures are the only answer. I don't even think veneers would've made much improvement, poor bloke.

Zzpplant · 15/04/2021 22:56

Worst episode by far Imo. They managed to make both look older, try hard and dated. I don’t know why they dyed Nicks hair when his grey looked far cooler. They shouldn’t have bothered trying to sort his teeth out and have given him implants or if Budget didn’t allow then full dentures because his own teeth were wobbly as fuck and on their Merry way out of his head. His outfits were awful. The lady looked like my 73 year old aunt. That hair - what were they thinking. Too short, too old-fashioned, too hard to maintain and to style. The dress was like what an older woman might wear on a cruise or at a ball or something. Horrible. They need to fire the stylist, make up person and the hairdresser.

pastaparadise · 16/04/2021 00:40

Oh my - diligently cleaning my teeth tonight... I'm guessing they couldn't do much with his teeth in 10 days given it looked like they were falling out poor guy.

Agree he really needs something drastic with his teeth, but apart from that just a beard trim, hair cut, and new jeans. All the men's accessories looked awful!

I was surprised by her haircut. I always wonder how much they edit it - it would be hard to look disappointed at the end. The dress was dreadful though i thought she looked much more atttactive facially. Seems so sad she sounded like she'd bern depressed for 30 years. Also wonder how much they're told to ham things up beforehand ie go out looking drabbest possible

Roscoescat · 16/04/2021 02:24

Haven’t seen many of these so some might be how I think they should be but I always think that the clothes they give them they probably won’t wear again. The hair and make up aren’t something that they are going to get right again.

Personally I would want to see what they could do if they dressed people in more everyday wearable clothes and had hairstyles that they were able to wake up with rather than complicated colouring and styles that would take a qualified hairdresser an hour to blow dry in. A lesson in makeup and home hair dying with make up that could be bought over the counter at boots and a wash in at home colouring kit would be more practical

They look like as soon as the make up comes off and a few weeks of hair growth they will look just as bad as before.
It all looks quite temporary.

Liked the older series much more.
I might be 50s and look 70s but no way would I wear the outfits the stylist puts them in.
I think I personally I could do better.

TheChosenTwo · 16/04/2021 09:20

I didn’t watch last night but will catch up over the weekend, sounds like it’s more of the same with the hair and clothes! And the makeup is always the same, some kind of bronzey face make up with a smoky eye for maximum ‘smoulder’ appeal!

OP posts:
Zzpplant · 16/04/2021 09:29

TheChosenTwo yes you’re right. Makeup too dark, too orange and too shiny. Hair a nightmare to keep up with and style. The mans hair was fine but didn’t need colouring. They could have gone for the silver fox look as he had a really good head of evenly grey hair. And the clothes. Dreadful for both of them. That stylist looks like she is permanently channeling a Queen Vic barmaid in the 1980s.

SueSaid · 16/04/2021 10:05

'The mans hair was fine but didn’t need colouring. They could have gone for the silver fox look'

Yes! and a trimmed beard only he'd have looked very smart. With dentures Grin

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 16/04/2021 11:10

I enjoy watching it but any of the fashions they show really aren't my style. Also some of the make up is far too heavy, like it's been trowelled on. I get when they are focusing on their faces with a lot of bright lighting they don't want them looking washed out but still. I've missed a couple of episodes but remember the one with the care worker who had lines under her eyes (as do I) and thinking "you don't need to trowel it on there, it'll make it worse". Sure enough, it was trowelled on, and it did.

Bythemillpond · 16/04/2021 12:17

I think you get to a certain age and make up detracts instead of enhances. Less is more.

Its a shocker Op.
The lady looked like Denise Welch at a 100 years old.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 16/04/2021 13:26

Absolutely. I think the lady was looking ok for 56 when she was doing that yoga. It was the weight that aged her but her face with a bit of Botox and a smile looked great. No makeup and in her sweats. Looked 10 years younger than age of the final result
cheshirecat777 · 16/04/2021 18:35

Must say I dont think it as good as the original version but still watchable and at times slightly funny

Things i dont like

  1. they always ask very young people to guess the age never an older person who might have more experience of people and be better at guessing ages. its usually an 20 year old guessing well most 20 year olds think anyone over 30 is ancient!

  2. hair guy - looks like Ken from Barbie & Ken he makes me laugh. The hair styles are all very unsuitable for the personality of the people and often hugely difficult, expensive and generally far too high maintenance. The lady with the pink quiff - why?😄 she would have looked very nice with a sharp blonde colour. the lady a few weeks back who lived in the country and walked dogs actually had a lovely face and nice shiny dark hair and ended up looking like sharon osbourne!

  3. stylist - for the women in particular they seem to pick very fancy going out type of clothes again ok to see but probably unsuitable for about 99% of the the person's live. It would be better to give them a casual and a night time choice.

Looking forward to next week😄😄😄

Bythemillpond · 16/04/2021 18:53

The original ones with NHJ were good but these ones look like the human equivalent of Changing Rooms. Gaudy and impractical and will fall apart when you have slept in it.

thenameshastings · 16/04/2021 23:09

Did anyone used to watch the original ones (probably about 15 years ago now!) I’m sure the person used to get the full-on plastic surgery works face lift, nose job, botox. Seems more low-budget this time round.

TheChosenTwo · 16/04/2021 23:51

Well I’m really looking forward to catching up with this on Sunday, it’s set to be a treat Grin
I know what you mean @cheshirecat777 - the outfits picked for the women do tend to be on the glamorous side, absolutely no problem whatsoever to get dressed up but it seems so at odds to how they have presented themselves previously!

OP posts:
TheChosenTwo · 18/04/2021 17:30

I’m watching now, can’t help but laugh at the irony of the comment the girlfriend of the bloke having the makeover made!
“I think I’d fancy him more if he looked a bit more hipster and original” Grin
I can’t walk down the street without bumping into 75 identikit hipsters! Nothing original about them! Absolutely nothing wrong with their look by the way, but it’s hardly original. And the T-shirt’s that he’s been wearing for the last 25 years - well funnily enough I reckon you’d hardly see many of those around so they ARE LITERALLY original Grin

IrmaFayLear · 18/04/2021 18:00

I hooted at Thursday’s episode. What did they do to them?! That bloke looked so awkward in his Peaky Blinders outfit and the hairdo they gave the lady! I’d have gone bonkers if I’d seen that in the mirror.

Must admit I too have been cleaning my teeth like a demon after seeing that bloke’s tombstones. They should have grafted more facial hair onto him to hide them.

thenightsky · 18/04/2021 18:41

They did. Full on acid peels and face lifts and fillers etc. Plus the dental work was hard core - nasty teeth pulled out and either top notch dentures or implants put back. I wonder if they can't afford that sort of budget now. Some the dentistry alone must have run to £20k.
TheChosenTwo · 18/04/2021 18:56

Wow. I can’t believe what they did to these people Shock
The bloke looked totally awkward and much older than before, the woman looked genuinely thrilled with the transformation but definitely didn’t look younger than before. She did look much happier though which is great.
Sadly I have to agree with the comment above on the older Denise Welch image Blush she looked like she’d fit right in pulling pints at the Queen Vic Shock no offence to barmaids, I’ve been one myself... it was just a very harsh look (hair mainly).

OP posts:
Zzpplant · 18/04/2021 19:59

thenameshastings. I watched the original series and they were full on surgery, implants etc. I feel that now it’s either wanting to make the point that proper scalpel type surgery isn’t necessary to look younger any more or the budget has been slashed.

JoanWilderbeast · 18/04/2021 21:09

I thought the original series hairdresser guy was lovely and his input always had the biggest impact.

the80sweregreat · 18/04/2021 21:40

I remember the old ones from about 15 years ago! They really did change them completely.
I've only saw last weeks one by accident and it was awful. A bit of a pound shop work on the teeth and the man looked better before the ' make over' plus pink hair ? No thanks, I'd rather stay ' mouse brown ' ( although she did love it to be fair)

TheLODstinkyunderpassAKATits · 21/04/2021 15:47

This really is awful, but I can't help myself from watching...and comparing my 49 year old self when the ages are revealed! I shall continue slapping on the moisturiser and brushing my teeth every day Grin

There is no way I'd let that stylist suggest clothes for me, she can't even dress herself without looking like she's just crawled out of the dressing up box.

I wonder if that bloke was a bit disappointed that he didn't get a whole new set of gnashers. Well that and being made to look like one of the Wurzels [anyone under 40 will probably need to google that].

They are doing obscene things with hair, I mean wtf will that pinky peach hair look like when it's washed and down?

What was the original programme called? There was one in the USA and they'd take them away from their family, do liposuction and plastics and all sorts and then do the big reveal. Not sure it was just 10 days?
