I think the discussion about dead parents is key to that relationship.

Silenceisgolden20 · 03/03/2021 23:25

@UhtredRagnarson

But she lied to get out if it after lecturing Asha about being honest with her.

That's manipulative.

No it wasn’t manipulative. She didn’t lie to manipulate asha, she wasn’t trying to get asha to do anything. She lied because she was feeling pressured to do something she didn’t want to do and didn’t feel she could be honest without upsetting asha.

Eh? So she lied Like she told Asha not to do.
Silenceisgolden20 · 03/03/2021 23:28

Here's the thing....Nina could have said I feel pressured, this is too much. But she didn't. After telling Asha to be honest with her.

UhtredRagnarson · 04/03/2021 00:10

Eh? So she lied
Like she told Asha not to do.

Yes she lied, that’s not the part I was disagreeing you with on, I was disagreeing with you that she was manipulative. She wasn’t.

augustusglupe · 04/03/2021 00:34

It all just feels wrong. Is Nina just with Asha to get near Dev?
And is she even gay?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 04/03/2021 00:51

Something doesn't feel right about Nina. But I'm not sure what.

JemimaTab · 04/03/2021 03:22

Good grief, Leanne and her “just get out!” every time someone says something she doesn’t like. Just like when Oliver was in hospital. She’s so aggressive. Makes her hard to like or even sympathise with.

And Yasmeen. Is it just me that finds her a pretty terrible actress? It’s all very over-theatrical and unconvincing.

Wheresmyfuckingphone · 04/03/2021 07:32

I thought I'd spotted a plot with Paul and Daniel getting together, DH (who apparently doesnt watch it) had to remind me that Daniel is gay in real life, not on the show. He did point out that Paul could don the cardigan in lieu of rent Grin

Roussette · 04/03/2021 07:34

I love that Paul and Daniel are going to share. Daniel to me is such a one dimensional character and not a good actor so this could be comedy stuff with them together, and I agree let's hope they don't start mucking around and making them into a couple or something daft.

Let it just be two mates sharing. Paul looked so pleased about this! I want him to move on from Whingy Vicar and horrible Todd.

Roussette · 04/03/2021 07:35

Hahaha... yes Paul is obviously going to find the cardi and accidentally shrink it in the wash to something that would fit a teddy.

Silenceisgolden20 · 04/03/2021 07:38

She's telling Asha one thing and doing another to get what she wants.

If you don't see that as manipulative, than who cares really.

Roussette · 04/03/2021 07:48

I imagine even the writers haven't decided whether it's evil manipulative Nina, or lovely but scared of being tied down to a family Nina. It's a work in progress!

I did think her statement of the family being bonkers and making it like a flippin' wedding coming up between Asha and her... very credible. They are ridiculous about it all !

Maybe Tracy could teach him her Sinead impression Grin

Why didn't Leanne screech 'just get out' at Jacob ?!

eggandonion · 04/03/2021 08:21

Jacob needed a slap.
Nina is totally confused.
Yasmeen needs a quiet spell away.

TellingBone · 04/03/2021 09:38

The Nina and Asha thing. Is this the writers attempting to reflect modern teen dilemmas? Bear with me.

When I were a lass if you came across someone you got on with really well with and wanted to go around with them, just the two of you, you became bezzie mates. Now it seems that sort of closeness can = sexual attraction or at least present a possibility of same. So are the writers just attempting to reflect that added dimension that exists in modern relationships/friendships?

God I sound a right old gammon. Hope someone sees what I'm getting at.

The way the writers have been going recently, are you sure they would work that out and go that far ??? Grin

We’ll have to agree to disagree.

woodhill · 04/03/2021 10:18

Yes the Nina/Asha is too much. Dev would encourage her to concentrate on her career prospects and education. It's just rubbish

PennyRoyal · 04/03/2021 10:38

I think the problem with Nina and Asha is that, with social distancing in place, the actors are always across the room from each other so it's hard to tell what their feelings really are. If you had a nuanced touch on the arm or a hug (with the soap-look glance over a shoulder), it wills be clearer.

For what it's worth, I think neither are being manipulative or dodgy, they're both teens who don't really know what they want. They both have traumatic backgrounds a d are grabbing at some comfort. They are doing what teens do, everything awkwardly and at a pace.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 04/03/2021 10:48

I would agree with that. Asha has only ever had bad experiences with boys, while Nina appears confident, but puts up a wall a lot of the time.

Roy and Mary will have to step in and help them work things out.
Steve might like to spend some time with Leanne.
Daisy might like to trip and fall into the canal.

Deadringer · 04/03/2021 11:58

Elaine is like a walking self help book, i wish she would leave Yasmeen alone and just be Tim's mum. Nina does seem to like Dev, hopefully it's just as a dad figure, i notice that she told Roy that she liked the Alahans, not that she liked Asha. I don't blame her for backing off, she shared a kiss with Asha now she is being invited to family events and being told Asha loves her, it's ridiculous. Also in the space of a day Asha's brother and friend have both been mithering her, my dds would run a mile from all that drama.

Deadringer · 04/03/2021 12:00

Dev is just ridiculous.

Roussette · 04/03/2021 12:04

Elaine is like a walking self help book

She is turning into a right know-all. And she went all odd in the hospital wittering on about nothing

I really like the relationship between Roy and Nina.. two similar oddbods that get each other
