Know nothing about this but have found some C5 original dramas quite good!

For anyone who like me is still trying to find something actually worth watching.

I'm still confused about the fake DBS. I don't think Jodie was using a fake surname, just her maiden name, which her passport was in?

JaimeLeeCurtains · 07/02/2021 16:31

Yes, the school - an employer - also has to see photo ID and proof of right to work and NI number aswell, normally one's passport or driving licence and one's official NI number letter. A birth certificate, divorce decree etc to explain married name / reversion after divorce.

A nice chat and 'pop in your own vetting certificate, just walk straight in, we don't have security at this school' doesn't really do it.

Thank you, Stumbledin. That’s one question answered Smile

ApolloandDaphne · 07/02/2021 18:04

I've just finished it. God it was pants. The end was ridiculous.

Bubblebu · 07/02/2021 18:42

So what is worth watching now that The Drowning is finished - I am struggling a bit with The Serpent - any ideas really appreciated

My DD loved The Serpent but we only lasted one episode - too slow and confusing with all the jumping forwards and backwards in time.

Finding Alice - rubbish

The Bay - good. I felt it was better than the first series

Didn't really like The Drowning. I felt that the casting of the boy was ridiculous as he obviously couldn't have been the natural child of Jodie and her husband. Also as PP have said, he behaved more like an 8 year old than 14. I kept hoping it would get better but sadly it didn't. Why did the uncle row Daniel out into the middle of the lake and then presumably take him back again?

I am SO fed up of silly programmes that I invest hours of my life in that have massive plot holes and don't make sense. I need everything tied up at the end Grin

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 07/02/2021 20:06

I thought RPJ looked good! I've always had a thing for him. He looks better now as an older man.
And yes to whomever mentioned Brian Molko. I had a massive crush on him growing up. Cody looks a spitting image of his mum though.

I agree it was ridiculous and I hated Jodie throughout- apart from the last minute. Mark should have sued her for assault and kidnapping surely???
And was i the only one hoping to see the flowers land on dead Daniel?
The boat would have been at the other end of the lake by the woods surely?

I assume they mean The Five which was a Harlen coben drama on sky a few years ago. Think he also did safe on Netflix (and the stranger also Netflix)
stumbledin · 07/02/2021 20:12

If you like Scandi Noir there is Rebecka Martinsson. Series 2 currently being shown but both series 1 and 2 online. Swedish

Very down beat with tangled family emotions. Also a bit confusing as main role is played by different actress in first and second series.

www.channel4.com/programmes/rebecka-martinsson-arctic-murders/episode-guide/series-1

And Nordic Murders (German but so far north almost scandinavian!). More despair and family troubles, but female lead part.

www.channel4.com/programmes/nordic-murders

The Five is available on Sky but in my opinion is nearly as ridiculous as the Drowning but far more unpleasant. www.sky.com/watch/title/series/97ff923b-58ae-4a30-997b-c2e6e6089864/the-five/episodes/season-1/episode-1

Marcello is as ridiculous as the Drowning!

Not a crime drama but really interesting look at what happens to a small town when oil is discovered set in Norway in early 70s (with a theme about women breaking through traditional expectations) with lots of family dynamics try State of Happiness. I thought it was really good. Currenlty being reshown on BBC Alba so not all episodes available on catch up yet. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000hy8w/episodes/guide

Or best ever crime drama Spiral. All 8 series available on BBC iPlayer. First 3 series are quite violent and unpleasant but give you a chance to get to know the main characters. Not in any way glossy or easy but gripping. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0072wk9/episodes/guide

The Investigation (should be on iplayer) was absolutely brilliant IMO - Danish series based on a fairly notorious real-life case, but doesn’t depict (or even name) the perpetrator which makes a refreshing change. Instead it concentrates on the investigation itself, which was incredibly difficult and painstaking, and on the people affected by the crime. I’d recommend it if you want a change from the ludicrous shite that was The Drowning.

Bubblebu · 07/02/2021 20:54

yes i thought the plot of The Drowning was awful but having come to that conclusion v early and deciding to soldier on with a lot of suspension of disbelief it was kinda enjoyable.

i could really do with something good - Which channel is "The Bay" on and can i watch it by catch up? What is it about?
thanks for the ideas.

Bubblebu · 07/02/2021 20:56

Shallwe
yes RPJ was one of the main reasons I watched the Drowning (a crush of mine going way back)
i thought he still looks good although imho has aged (havent we all....)

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/02/2021 21:00

Good grief!

Both television critics and fans of the Channel 5 series appear to be united in condemnation of the actress’s wardrobe choice – despite her red and black checked coat carrying a hefty £600 price tag.

So it may come as a surprise to the three million viewers of the four-part thriller that the belted coat, created by French designer Claudie Pierlot, sold out last week at Selfridges.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9232585/Jill-Halfpennys-tartan-coat-Drowning-cost-600-sold-Selfridges.html

And the checked jacket has also sold out at Topshop Confused

WHO IS BUYING THESE MONSTROSITIES???

I really enjoyed. A Harlan Coben book

Itv

You need to watch s1 first

Bubblebu · 07/02/2021 21:19

thanks Blondes I will do.

BloggersBlog · 07/02/2021 21:26

I do wonder how the actors don't see that there are such massive plot holes, and if they do, do they ever say 'this is a crap ending, why would she get into a boat rather than her own ruddy car?'
How can they just act it knowing how stupid it looks?

Bubblebu · 07/02/2021 21:28

Bloggers, it is surely all just about money and probably they do not care.

Yes I thought that when she got into the boat instead of her car. Totally illogical and stupid.
But then the whole idea that her brother would try to "fix it" for his sister by somehow intervening in the DNA test (surely impossible in any event) to "make" the boy her son - ridiculous.

EggysMom · 08/02/2021 07:59

So that was a £600 coat? She could have sold that rather than raid the business bank account!

Skipsurvey · 08/02/2021 08:21

i did not like the first series of The Bay, also full of holes,
is it better now?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2021 08:39

Yes @Skipsurvey seems an ok plot /story at mo
