Know nothing about this but have found some C5 original dramas quite good!

For anyone who like me is still trying to find something actually worth watching.

I think that Mark's wife had PND & felt guilty that she didn't love him as much as she thought she should.

GingerFigs · 05/02/2021 21:12

Thanks @diddl and @Hueandcry I think I was too busy dunking biscuits in my tea to notice what they said!!

Can anyone explain why Mark asked for a criminal lawyer at the police station? Or did I dream that 😴

I’d meant to add that to my list of unanswered questions.

I have just caught up with this. Hilariously bad but this thread amused me the whole way through. Another couple of implausible things which annoyed me (yes there are more!) is that Yasmin was using a chainsaw and wearing no PPE. And that she just gave Jodie the keys to the van when it was full of tools.

Plus you don't ring a prison and rock up and visit a prisoner at 10 mins notice.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 05/02/2021 23:25

@FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue

This series started out so well and ended up so ludicrous and far-fetched it was just plain annoying. A man doesn't tell anyone that his nephew drowned while in his care because he thinks it will affect his career prospects? I mean where do you even begin with this? FFS A barrister can get a fake DNA result sent to the police? Really?? FFS The police let a witness to a crime have a private interview with the accused?? So utterly couldn't ever happen it was just shit. And yes totally agree re ridiculous gardening company whose only real function is to give everyone an opportunity to wear groovy head scarves and dungarees. And don't get me started on Jodie's home that looks looks like something from an interior design magazine, with huge rooms, lived in by a single woman who used to be a musician but is now a partner in said ridiculous gardening company. Because everyone knows about the huge salaries in gardening, don't they? Grrr.

And, oh no, my brother's coming for us, let's run away, where's the best place to escape to, I know, let's jump in a fucking rowing boat because that makes total sense.

And breathe.

The last bit here just had me laughing so much. A fucking rowing boat! and not just once but twice!! So hilarious.
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/02/2021 23:57

I'd love a second series based totally on this thread 😂

I assumed that giving a DNA sample would lead to him being caught for something else, some crime he'd been involved in. Which the person on the other end of the phone knew about.

But that sub-plot just got dropped and then sank like a red herring weighed down with a stone.

This and killed her self

Abs mark told Daniel and anyone who asked it was cancer

So they Daniel didn’t feel bad and stop people asking questions. As cancer does that apparently

@UnusuallyUsual

Well that had made me think that perhaps he knew he wasn't the dad-adoption or wife's affair (so hence the guilt & not PND?)

But perhaps he just wanted to make sure he had representation?

burnoutbabe · 06/02/2021 09:05

Surely any criminal lawyer would have got him out in under an hour? Look here is birth certificate and pics of us and baby and sone people we knew then.

Which I suppose doesn't prove that they didn't snatch Tom at 4 after their own kid died but it would be something!

Maybe the bit from dna test to brother drowning was only a day? Though it was a busy day with social worker visit and visit grandma house and then get text and meet not dad then drive to lake.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 09:14

Mark never seemed to have a duty solicitor present, did he, let alone a 'criminal lawyer'?

And no mention ever of Daniel's birth certificate or medical records, even after Mark had Daniel taken away from him to give to an unhinged woman who was basically a complete stranger.

MythSpentYouth · 06/02/2021 09:33

This is the biggest plot hole of all. And his lawyer would have demanded their own DNA tests. Jason couldn’t have had the entire legal community under his control.

Clymene · 06/02/2021 09:45

And why couldn't Jodie get a DBS? That was never explained.

And what a family who live in a very nice house, drive a Lexus (even if it was only apparently worth £2k) and send their child to private school have never left the country on holiday ? I did like the box handily labelled 'important documents'. I'm sure we all have one of those Grin

Why was he going to take Daniel out of school a couple of days before half term and what was the point of that storyline?

burnoutbabe · 06/02/2021 10:04

I will say that overall I think this was great.

I mean I was excited to watch every night at 9 and enjoyed pulling it apart here.

So it did the trick. Nothing else has grabbed me as much in last few weeks on tv. I like the bay but it isn't much watch exactly on time. Putting something over 4 nights creates an EVENT

So credit where it's due I think. It was like a trashy novel you stay up until 2am to read!

MythSpentYouth · 06/02/2021 10:14

And why couldn't Jodie get a DBS? That was never explained
She probably could, but faced with waiting 4 weeks for the simple legal route Jodie naturally went for the risky, illegal but immediate route, just like not waiting for the DNA test. Because she wanted to get into the school fast. Also to make us as viewers suspicious.

Why was he going to take Daniel out of school a couple of days before half term and what was the point of that storyline
To put more time pressure on her. And make us, the viewers suspicious.

All such clumsy plotting.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 10:15

Why was he going to take Daniel out of school a couple of days before half term and what was the point of that storyline?

Just a plot device I think to speed up the action and/or make Mark look shifty? God knows. I mean, it was supposed to be a school, not a hotel with people coming and going whenever they felt like it.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/02/2021 10:16

Watched all of this last night - possibly the WORST, most unbelievable, badly scripted, lazy plot points I've EVER watched

An utter waste for the fabulous Halfpenny and Penny Jones

Fuck me what an awful show

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 10:25

And another thing ...

When Jodie first saw Daniel he was carrying a guitar to school.

But it was soon established that he didn't have music lessons or tuition, and the 'music club' hadn't been set up yet, as Jodie did that with her flyers pinned to the walls. (Luckily, Daniel just happened to be one of the half a dozen pupils out of the whole school who showed up.)

So why would he be lugging a guitar to school for Jodie to conveniently see ? Especially as his father Mark was dead against the whole thing.

How did he even own guitar(s) if his father didn't approve of music lessons, only gave him £5 a week allowance, and wouldn't even buy him a cheap phone? Martinet Mark wouldn't encourage guitars.

I may have got all of the above completely wrong Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/02/2021 10:27

Seven year prison sentence for child abduction.

She walks free the next dayHmm

UnityUnited · 06/02/2021 11:01

Wasn’t she told by the police he was her son before she tried to go to France?

2021vision · 06/02/2021 11:12

Bloody hell that was really bad. Did anyone actually watcht the whole thing through before airing it?!

Why did Jason take Daniel out in the boat and say he was going to dump him in the middle of lake and then the next scene was Jill and her coat running in while he was making the cabin all cosy. I just sat there thinking - Daniel's drowning in the lake quick! but then Daniel was in a shed!

JaimeLeeCurtains · 06/02/2021 11:15

@UnityUnited

Wasn’t she told by the police he was her son before she tried to go to France?
It was after she'd been banged up somewhere or other, I think.
UnityUnited · 06/02/2021 11:44

She was told about the dna test in a police cell so presumably when she fled she genuinely believed Taniel was her son?

diddl · 06/02/2021 11:56

@UnityUnited

I'm not sure if she did tbh.

Could have sworn that when she was in the cell & told it was a match she was surprised!

Am I the only one who thought that "Daniel" looked Asian so couldn't be Tom?
