Know nothing about this but have found some C5 original dramas quite good!

For anyone who like me is still trying to find something actually worth watching.

The writers have clearly never set foot in a private school! Daniel was walking around the school in uniform but wearing trainers. Wouldn't be allowed in a million years. Unlikely that he'd be permitted to grow his hair that long either. And there wasn't a blazer in sight!
Why bother pretending it was an independent school?! Confused

bloodyhairy · 07/02/2021 00:21

Of course, I realise the smartness of the kids is the least of the show's implausibilities Grin

Och, I still enjoyed it though.

SpanishFly · 07/02/2021 00:21

@Clymene

And why couldn't Jodie get a DBS? That was never explained.

And what a family who live in a very nice house, drive a Lexus (even if it was only apparently worth £2k) and send their child to private school have never left the country on holiday ? I did like the box handily labelled 'important documents'. I'm sure we all have one of those Grin

Why was he going to take Daniel out of school a couple of days before half term and what was the point of that storyline?

She could get one, but she was using a fake surname.

I'll read the full thread now, but I'm utterly drained binge watching this. It was tripe. The sinister music playing constantly was bizarre too.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/02/2021 03:15

I'm getting some hilarious ads on my MN page catching up on thread!
Ads for do I need a spousal visa 😂wonder if that's been sponsored by Mr Big of 'Forged Documents R Us'
Study at Durham University & Study at Manchester (that's the unmatching accents)
All I need now is a gardening, dna ancestry or boating holiday/cruise advert Grin

JaimeLeeCurtains · 07/02/2021 05:08

I'm getting one for 'school support'!

I went to an independent school without a uniform and there are several.

But I agree that he was wearing a weird half uniform. He didn't look like he was wearing school trousers either, just a jumper.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 07/02/2021 07:21

What was with the awful wardrobe choices as well?

It was entertaining although not great acting, script or anything really. Thought TomDan was a great actor.

Rupert PJ is 50! He looks good still.

Skipsurvey · 07/02/2021 08:08

Where did Ade end up?

CriticalWoman · 07/02/2021 08:08

Dan presented as so young, more like a 10 year old, including the pyjamas. And when Jodie was rowing the boat she could have done with his help instead of him just sitting there.

CriticalWoman · 07/02/2021 08:12

And why was Jodie's ex so detached from his dead son?
Re the wet trousers there is a very similar scene in The Night Manager, when Tom Hiddleston walks into a swimming pool to dispatch someone and then returns to High Laurie completely dry.
In both situations it would have been simple for the director to have the actor not actually enter the water.

Skipsurvey · 07/02/2021 08:27

There was a handily placed Axe for the gardener to smash up the TV Grin

Apologies that it's the DM but am thinking it was written based on this thread??

Skipsurvey · 07/02/2021 08:54

why did Daniel have a 7 year old's toothbrush?

Skipsurvey · 07/02/2021 08:55

Why did Daniel put flowers in the water?

burnoutbabe · 07/02/2021 09:21

@Flibbitygibbit

What happened to Daniel's sibling ? His real mother committed suicide , she had another child ? Where were they ?
That was Daniel.

It was said in such a way that I thought it would be said "and then the child died so we snatched Tom" but he was talking Of Daniels birth and causing his mums post natal depression, in a strange off handed way.

EggysMom · 07/02/2021 11:25

DM Editor: We need a topical article. What's a hot topic on Mumsnet just now?
DM Writer: Well, there's a thread pointing out all the plotholes in The Drowning. They're particularly fixated on her coats.
DM Editor: That's do!!!

Papergirl1968 · 07/02/2021 11:35

Just jumping on here to say I loved The Drowning despite its many plot holes, but even more I loved this thread! Grin
I would like to pose a couple more questions in addition to those already asked about the ludicrous plot.
Why was Mark so cold to Daniel/Tom, and wouldn’t let him have a phone?
How did Ade’s mate know he was in trouble when he got out of the van? And know how to find him down those alleys?
How did Jodie explain Jason’s drowning to the police? “Yeah, he was trying to swim after the boat but I wouldn’t stop for him because he was a nutter? And he has a ruddy great lump on the back of his head because I shoved him down some steps while trying to rescue my son (but he turned out not to be my son) from drowning (again) - except he wasn’t actually drowning but perfectly safe albeit shut in a hut in the wood.”

MeepyMupp · 07/02/2021 11:38

I watched the whole thing last night. It must of been one of the crappiest series I have seen in a long time. I don't understand why they screened it. Most series I have watched usually have a saving grace which you can say 'well, at least this or that was good' but not The Drowning. It was so dire it was comical - and not in a good way.

bloodyhairy · 07/02/2021 12:11

The grandmother was a dreadful actor.
And the brother was the least convincing QC ever! He looked like someone you wouldn't want to bump into in a dark alley Blush

bloodyhairy · 07/02/2021 12:12

Was it filmed in Covid times? The actors always seemed unnaturally distanced.

Apparently some of it was
SophieB100 · 07/02/2021 13:40

The grandmother was a dreadful actor.

^^
This.
She was totally unconvincing in this.
Better in The Split - played the sisters mum in that - she was supposed to be this kick ass hot shot lawyer - but not much better.

TheOrigRights · 07/02/2021 14:15

I watched the first episode and found myself drifting off - a bit dull IMO.

Instead I am watching It's a Sin.

stumbledin · 07/02/2021 16:05

He must have been suspicious about him being asked to get out, and in fact in the scenes where he was being chased across the park the van was always in view following him. (I dont usually spot things like this but I kept wondering why they did long shots.)

Definitely the last scene by the lake was Covid. Everyone was socially distanced with their on screen partner (bubbled?) except Jodie and Daniel who must have been a bubble of their own.
