I discovered it today and I can’t stop.

I know it’s drivel but it’s beyond fun and exactly what I needed.

@BaconAndAvocado you’ll see more of the Duke than that...!!

BaconAndAvocado · 12/01/2021 19:57

Hels20 oo eck... I need a glass of water......

PrinzessinCressida · 12/01/2021 20:49

@Hels20 Grin very good!

Skipsurvey · 14/01/2021 07:19

I am watching, it is great escapism. Rather silly, but a good watch. And the Duke, oh my

RickiTarr · 14/01/2021 07:46

@sneakysnoopysniper

Its supposed to be set in 1823. Much of the women's jewellery and hair accessories are from the 1920s to mid century. OH dear ... Dont they have reliable continuity people or stylists any more?
Apparently, when they filmed the dance sequences, it was to modern pop music. So it could have been worse; they could have left that in.
BaconAndAvocado · 14/01/2021 08:36

Yes I noticed the music being contemporary. I quite liked it.

It's a period drama but it's Netflix not the BBC!

LivingOnAnIsland · 14/01/2021 08:44

Watched it over 2 days and loved every minute. Can't wait for the next series.

We finished it last night. Dh said it was girly tosh, so I offered to watch it on my own and he said 'oh, well I've started watching it now so I might as well carry on' Grin

Great escapism.

echt · 16/01/2021 09:57

Utter tosh, though a larf.

What gets me is how, as in the BBC's P&P, and GoT when they're north of the Wall, and this piffle, they don't wear hats, whenin the Regency ones they would have been an absolute social requirement and in GoT a survival one.

I know that the narratives mean realism is sacrificed to eye appeal, but really.

DarceyDashwood · 17/01/2021 02:06

For anyone interested in trying the first book, it’s currently only 99p on Amazon. I’m really enjoying it - going to just read Book 1 though as want to watch the TV show without spoilers! It’s Anthony who does it for me (although The Duke is lovely of course!!)

Want S2 now!!!

Coppercreek · 19/01/2021 10:56

I had seen everyone talking about it so watched the first episode and next thing I know it was 2am and I was finishing episode 8 and was in desperate need of a cold shower and a fag.

I don't even smoke 🤣

It was pure mills and boon type romp fest and is probably about as close as you can get to porn without it being actual porn.

And I fucking loved it. It is light and pretty and airy and just what everyone needs right now!!

Brefugee · 19/01/2021 16:03

Fashionably late to the party...

What a load of utter tripe... I ADORED it.

Everyone has their favourites, but Venetia, The Grand Sophy and Friday's Child are often in the top five. Some of her romances also have a bit of mystery, and she wrote some which are more historical than romance.

Georgette Heyer is an absolute goddess. Honest to god. Venetia is brilliant, as is The Toll Booth and Bath Tangle. But one of the best, and praised by honest-to-goodness historians of the Napoleonic wars is An Infamous Army which covers the battle of Waterloo but from the point of view of the ladies who found themselves suddenly deserted at the Duchess of Richmond's ball.

TheTrueDuchessOfHastings · 19/01/2021 17:09

err erm!

< note the username, thank you >

You all make me wish we could all rewatch Bridgerton together in the same room. If nothing else, just to bask in the glory of all these women (and possibly men), as lovely as you all probably are, virtual-humping my husband.

I know..I know, it's how he got me. Swooned and he caught me. Next thing you know, there's a ring on my finger. Romance!

Well, 'twas nice to visit you all. Tah-tah ladies.

NormaLouiseBates · 19/01/2021 17:25

Downton Abbey: The Porno.

Marvellous stuff; loved every single silly minute of it!

PrinzessinCressida · 19/01/2021 22:03

I watched it 3.5 weeks ago and I'm still completely obsessed with the whole series in general, and the Duke very much in particular...

snowisfallingallaroundus · 20/01/2021 00:18

Just watched it again.

Oh the duke. Oh my!

Standrewsschool · 20/01/2021 18:50

“Downton Abbey: The Porno.” So true!

Just started watching it (episodes 1 and 2 so far). Took a bit of while getting into it, after finishing the first book (regency mills and boom).

Must admit, took me a bit of a while to get into it, and the slightly different story line. Ie. Nigel is portrayed as an older man in the book, Marina doesn’t exist, and there’s no mention of black/mixed raced characters. Also, you get more background in the book.

However, I love the sliminess of Nigel, the protectiveness of the brothers, the ph wore factor of the duke and the brothers (I’m not fussy!) etc, and the sumptuous sets, costumes etc.

MrsDThomas · 20/01/2021 20:15

Ive got to episode 5😋

Hels20 · 20/01/2021 20:48

You’ve got episode 6 to come...! Wish I could rewatch episode 5 and 6 for first time!! Swoon swoon.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 23/01/2021 21:25

I've just finished the last episode. Pride and Prejudice meets Jilly Cooper. I loved it.

Skipsurvey · 24/01/2021 16:41

that withdrawal method must make a mess!

diddl · 24/01/2021 16:45

It was very silly, but an easy watch, wasn't it?

Something I didn't quite "get"-or maybe I misheard?

Lady Danbury saying something like thank goodness for the King marrying Charlotte as now "they" had been able to take their place in society?

What was that about?

If it was colour blind casting-no explanation needed?

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 24/01/2021 16:52

Yes I picked up on that too @diddl - found it quite jarring against supposedly colourblind casting, and didn't understand why that scene was there at all.

I didn't have time to dwell on it too much though because it wasn't too long before the wedding night then, and my thoughts returned to The Duke...

Hels20 · 24/01/2021 16:52

@diddl - Queen Charlotte is long rumoured to be the first black member of the royal family.
