It’s on tonight (23rd) and I’m really looking forward to watching it. We need all the laughs that we can get. Not sure what the storyline is but I saw it advertised.

OP posts:
motherrunner · 24/12/2020 12:42

I’ve watched it 4 times since it aired. Meg punching Kevin and then Julia and Liz “hiding” the stain has to be the best thing I’ve seen all year!

SoupDragon · 24/12/2020 12:52

I liked how they were happier to confess to doing drugs rather than what they had been doing 😂

multivac · 24/12/2020 13:20

@Bluewavescrashing

Julia's mum finally redeemed herself with the Christmas dinner prep after years of dodging granny duties.

Weetabix and cashmere towel conversation got me 🤣

no no no! Julia's mum has only recently stopped granny duties - or tried to - because Julia had been taking the piss (when she takes on the school run again in series one, the other parents had assumed 'granny' was her kids' mum). But as I say, she just can't help doing what mums do when their children are struggling Smile
jambeforeclottedcream · 24/12/2020 13:24

It was a fantastic Christmas special

BeHereNowx32 · 24/12/2020 13:51

I’m watching for the second time now 😂 (I did miss the first 5 mins last night. May as well keep watching!) enjoyed it

Caelano · 24/12/2020 14:27

@multivac yes, good point, a big focus previously was Julia never having any childcare organised and dumping the kids on her mother constantly. Even more ironic that she then does all the food prep and gets everything sorted while Julia’s out on the piss!

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 24/12/2020 14:32

It was her in laws staying, wasn’t it? Not her folks.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/12/2020 14:33

Thought both parents stayed

Was funny

Can’t wait fir new serues

TheRogueApostrophe · 24/12/2020 14:36

@LizzieMacQueen

I was so sure the punchline regarding the graffiti was going to be about the apostrophe. Other than that, yes, like an evening out with mumsnetters!
Me too!
FenEel · 24/12/2020 14:36

@Standrewsschool

I’m convinced that the writers of Motherland uses mumsnet for their plots.
There was something in one episode about taking down a pin art thing, playing with it and getting rid of the picture, and then it turned out to be the face of a deceased parent. When I saw it I was convinced I had read that same story on MN absolutely yonks ago.
multivac · 24/12/2020 14:37

@DazzlePaintedBattlePants

It was her in laws staying, wasn’t it? Not her folks.
Her in-laws were there demanding tea; her mum didn't want to use the crispy towels Smile
Caelano · 24/12/2020 14:40

Her in laws seemed as useful as her dh... just sat there waiting for cups of tea. Her mother was there too, looking very haggard probably from all the childcare!

motherrunner · 24/12/2020 14:53

Another thing that killed me (despite absolutely loving my mother in law) was when Julia opened the fridge and bits fell out as they had to be ‘used up’. My mother in law does this all the time 😆

paradyning · 24/12/2020 15:11

That missing apostrophe in Santas was killing me

BigBadVoodooHat · 24/12/2020 15:13

@DazzlePaintedBattlePants

It was her in laws staying, wasn’t it? Not her folks.
Her in-laws were there, and her mum. I presumed her mum was staying rather than just visiting as she had a shower while she was there.
BigBadVoodooHat · 24/12/2020 15:14

Oops, just saw that several others have said the same Blush

SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 15:47

@Bluewavescrashing

Julia's DH is fit. I wouldn't ltb Wink
Same, I’ve loved him since Green Wing :o
SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 15:51

Just watched it and thought it was great. I’d kill for another series right now!

Although it was nice to escape from Covid I do think it would be really funny to see how they managed all the panic buying, social distancing etc for an episode or two.

I could have punched Amanda for being a dick about the evil Santa but I felt sorry for her when she said about it being the last Xmas in her house! I need to rewatch the series.

Anne is my favourite, her bunny knowledge killed me 😂

ageingdisgracefully · 24/12/2020 16:49

Also very bothered about the apostrophe. Did they paint it in?

NurseButtercup · 24/12/2020 20:23

Oh I loved this, no reminders of covid-19 thank goodness. I definitely needed a chuckle.

GrapeLipBalm · 24/12/2020 20:33

Wonder when it was filmed.

BikeRunSki · 24/12/2020 20:47

@GrapeLipBalm

Wonder when it was filmed.
I wonder that. DH suggested that it might have been done at the end of the last series?
mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 20:56

I definitely think it was filmed pre-covid, or it would have featured. Glad it didn’t, as I said previously, but as a PP said I think they would have taken advantage of the comic factor with panic buying etc.

GrapeLipBalm · 24/12/2020 21:19

Good point about it being filmed at the end of the last series. I reckoned pre covid due to no social distancing at the nativity play etc.

JustDanceAddict · 24/12/2020 21:41

Loved the Mein Kraft - hysterical!
