It’s on tonight (23rd) and I’m really looking forward to watching it. We need all the laughs that we can get. Not sure what the storyline is but I saw it advertised.

Oh they almost certainly take inspiration from Mumsnet - the fact that Julia’s husband is a Bike Twat is a big giveaway Xmas Wink

Only disappointing thing for me was no appearance from Anthony Stewart-Head!

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 22:50

Ohh thank you so much for posting, I had no idea there was one! I love the show so much.

FrazzledChip · 23/12/2020 22:51

Absolutely loved it and laughed until I cried. I find it a little bit hit and miss but the first half of the Christmas special was spot on.

Ricepops · 23/12/2020 22:56

I loved how the in laws brought all their leftover bits of fresh food - my mum does this every time she visits!

mnahmnah · 23/12/2020 22:58

Loved it. I had particular appreciation for Meg’s style of wrapping the presents.

Awrite · 23/12/2020 22:59

Oh, I loved that. Best episode they've done I think.

I laughed for a long time at Meg jumping into bed with the ex wife. Actually, a fair few laugh out loud moments. Loved it.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 23/12/2020 23:03

Can we get some love for Sharon Horgan (sp?) too? Not very MN to let a bloke get all the credit for writing.

Julia’s face at the end, when she plastered on the Mummy face really got me.

TheySeeHerRowling · 23/12/2020 23:05

Loved it - having been minorly spoiled by the Radio Times about a 'white carpet incident' I loved the way it was nothing to do with the mulled wine Xmas Grin

Also Julia's husbands list of useless awful gifts was amazing (a Michael Kors handbag, Ted Baker sunglasses - I bet their marketing people were wincing!)

EachandEveryone · 23/12/2020 23:07

Was he in TK Maxx?😃

Cartwheel333 · 23/12/2020 23:14

Loved it but also really loved Julia’s jumper!! Any ideas where it’s from?

TheNortherner · 23/12/2020 23:32

Genius comedy. I love the flaws and foibles of each character and recognise aspects of them in myself, my family aand other parents/colleagues. Love what Meg has brought to the dynamic. Mein kraft, just genius.

ASmallMovie · 23/12/2020 23:36

Yeah the love for Graham Linehan is odd, considering he didn’t write it. The BBC won’t go near him these days as he has been deemed transphobic.
His partner is one of the writers.

Julia's jumper is M&S! I have it in the other colour, it's really soft.
Fair Isle Jumper

Above was for @Cartwheel333

Smallgoon · 23/12/2020 23:49

Evil Santa was genius, though I would have loved for Ann to have nabbed the candle!

WingingItSince1973 · 23/12/2020 23:53

Absolutely love this show! Missed it tonight as ended up in bed early with bad head xx

Smallgoon · 23/12/2020 23:56

Is it me or is Julia perfect in every way? Her facial expressions just kill me, but there's something so 'cool' about her. Maybe I just love her.

multivac · 23/12/2020 23:56

@pipnchops

Agree it was strange seeing people close together, made me wish I could have my friends over. Who did all the Christmas prep for Julia? That would be lovely if someone did that!
I read it as her mum who did all the prep. Because that's what mums do. Really subtle and clever Smile
formerbabe · 23/12/2020 23:59

Actually yeah must have been her mum as she'd seen her have a bit of a meltdown over it.

chipshopElvis · 24/12/2020 06:39

The fridge! The inlaws! So true, I haven't laughed so much in aaages. Much needed.

chipshopElvis · 24/12/2020 06:44

Although who babysat for Liz?!

BigBadVoodooHat · 24/12/2020 06:54

@chipshopElvis

Although who babysat for Liz?!
Her ex had the children, I think?
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/12/2020 07:01

Megs rap and her Xmas tree moment were the best- hysterical!!!!

SnugglySnerd · 24/12/2020 07:03

It was absolutely brilliant! Brilliant writing and casting. I do hope they do another series.

ScubaSteven · 24/12/2020 07:19

Meg and the Christmas tree! Mein Kraft! Loved it!

I like that Julia is a fundamentally unlikeable character because of the way she treats other people, but you can't help but like her anyway. I thought the in-laws and her mother looked really frail, it was probably done deliberately but that surprised me.

I've rewatched both series lately and I really hope there is another on the way! It's so relatable and funny.
