Grin.

I've managed a second dog walk. It's looking a bit sad outside, now a lot of the houses are removing the outdoor decorations.

ScienceSensibility · 04/01/2021 05:21

More trouble for the Aus Open organisers.

Flat owners above their chosen hotel are complaining about being exposed to hundreds of new arrivals potentially carrying covid!

It will be a miracle if the tournament goes ahead at this rate!

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2021 11:09

Oh no @ScienceSensibility! I suppose they have a point.

Hope everyone is ok.

Raahh · 04/01/2021 11:28

Morning! Not too bad Jane- trying to work out what will be happening with school this week. DD2 was always off til the 11th anyway, so she (shouldn't) have to do anything this week. DD1 starts online stuff tomorrow til the 18th.
I live next to a primary school field- they are already back.

At least this year I won't end up trying to take DD2 in, on an inset day. Can't believe that was a year ago- good thing we realised before we stormed the (closed) gates. Very embarrassing Grin.

Science I can see why the residents will be unhappy. Months of lockdowns and closed borders- but it will suddenly be ok for hundreds of athletes, plus their support teams (much smaller teams I imagine) to turn up en masse, in the name of sport.

Not to mention, there seems to have been cases of players being tested postive at almost all the tournaments since the re-start. And don't get me started on the Adria fiasco Grin.

Be disappointing (as a fan) if nothing goes ahead. I got quite used to the tennis being back. But safety of everyone has to come first really.

ElaineMarieBenes · 04/01/2021 12:12

Just to let you know in case of any interest but the Aus qualifying matches are underway in Dubai (friends son is a ball boy and she has gone along to watch (and stalk Pat Cash who is also there!).

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2021 12:17

I guess she was a teenager in the 80's then Elaine Grin

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2021 12:23

Raahh I have walked DS1 to the bus on days off! Before school texts were a thing DS1 was a champion at hiding school letters in the bottom of his bag. I just hope the neighbours were having a lie in on those days and didn't see us Blush

School was supposed to be back Wednesday but it's been deferred until Monday while the government dithers about what to do as the case numbers rise every day.

Fizzywinegum · 04/01/2021 12:27

I do hope that the AO goes ahead because I want to see some tennis but I can understand people being worried - Australia have worked really hard to keep their numbers down. All they need is Benoit Paire and a pack of cards for it to all go wrong!

The schools thing must be a nightmare Raahh - we’re still in Tier 3 but I’m sure that will change soon Sad - I’m not even sure what I’d do if I could do anything!

I’ve got the house to myself today for what seems like the first time in weeks - DH was watching Indiana Jones yesterday - It was giving me the rage Grin and yes so much football Jane Hmm

I was catching up on the Tennis Podcasts earlier - they’ve done one about tennis aggro - there’s still another episode to go so I’m sure the Rafa/Kyrgios aggro will get a mention. I’ve not heard anything from the Voice of Reason recently - is he still talking sense?

One of the Tennis aggros was between Andy Roddick and Djok - Djok had taken quite a lot of medical time outs and Roddick accused him of having 16 injuries/illnesses including bird flu! I guess some things haven’t changed!

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2021 12:32

Oh I love Indy Fizzy. I just managed to see a tiny bit of it though. I watched Working Girl the other night for the millionth time to get my Harrison fix.

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2021 12:33

Grin

Fizzywinegum · 04/01/2021 12:38

I think I just needed some alone time Jane - glad you got your Harrison Ford fix Grin - I did manage to watch the whole of Bridgerton over Christmas though which probably gave DH the rage!

JaneJeffer · 04/01/2021 12:44

I've forgotten what alone time is. If this thing ever ends I will have separation anxiety! DH is back at work so we no longer have to put up with his new hobby of early morning hoovering Angry

Fizzywinegum · 04/01/2021 13:20

DS1 is back wfh from tomorrow so my alone time is limited! I get more alone time if I have to go into work as no one else is usually there!

Early morning hoovering is very unlikely to take place here Shock

Raahh · 04/01/2021 15:09

I had to go to the shops- and pick up a prescription I don't remember ordering.

I feel like I will never get the house to myself again. Dh is supposed to be out Saturday (football againGrin)- but it all depends. He has had conflicting messages about teams not being able to travel to different tiers- and though we are now in 4 pretty much everywhere here, going to different tier 4 areas is not allowed.

I've got home and realised I forgot half the things I went shopping for Grin.

ScienceSensibility · 05/01/2021 06:29

Under threat of legal action, original hotel has pulled out.

Now the tournament organisers have to find somewhere else from scratch!

Raahh · 05/01/2021 08:58

They are probably starting to wish they had postponed the whole thing, Science.

JaneJeffer · 05/01/2021 12:02

I'd love a bit of tennis player spotting if I lived there! I don't blame the hotel for cancelling under the circumstances though.

Fizzywinegum · 05/01/2021 12:25

It looks as if the flat owners are owners of luxurious penthouse suites within the hotel and some are over 80 so I suppose we can’t blame them for not wanting to take risks. I wouldn't mind the chance of bumping into Rafa though Grin

Hope they manage to find another suitable hotel (do they have Travelodges in Australia?) It must be a nightmare for the organisers especially if qualifying has already started

Raahh · 05/01/2021 12:37

Has Djok rented himself a luxury pad, away from 'the bubble' (because he is special)like he did in the US? maybe he has some spare rooms people can crash atGrin.

Fizzywinegum · 05/01/2021 12:43

Yes but would anyone want to stay at Djok’s Raahh? Green juices all round - no thanks!

Raahh · 05/01/2021 13:01

Fizzy good point- it wouldn't be much fun would it? And then there's the after-dinner 'tree hugging' to consider. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 05/01/2021 13:24

I imagine it would be like living with Sister Assumpta on Father Ted Grin

Morning and a belated happy New Year to everyone. Hope everyone is doing ok.

We've had a bit of snow here overnight although it already seems to be melting (I don't know how as it still feels freezing! Hmm).

Yikes that's not good for the Australian Open is it? When do the players start to travel over there - it's supposed to be soon I think? I've seen a couple of posts about the ATP cup but haven't been paying much attention tbh.

Fizzy I listened to the podcasts about tennis aggro as well - they were really good weren't they? I did feel sorry for Djok (you know me Grin) when he had to do that on-court interview though!
