Now we've overcome our dislike of subtitles, we've just enjoyed DNA and are enjoying 'The Bridge'. That'll keep us going for a while yet I know but while I'm thinking about it thought I'd ask for other recommendations. Particularly crime dramas/thrillers.
We have Netflix and Prime as well as the usual catch up.
Thanks!

The Killing and Borgen.

Nothing is as good as The Bridge though.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/11/2020 19:04

Whistling

Black lake

Tabular Rosa - that was AMAZING but it's not a straight crime drama

SleepingStandingUp · 15/11/2020 19:05

As a Killing Eve fan I was esp excited about The Birdge. Were one episode from the end of series 1

throwaway100000 · 15/11/2020 19:08

Have you watched Criminal on Netflix? It’s very good.

www.netflix.com/gb/title/80216172

If you scroll down you’ll find the links to the Spanish/French/German counterparts

Svelteinmydreams · 15/11/2020 19:10

Channel 4 ‘ Fear on the Lake’ is in French. It’s the 3rd series featuring some of the same cast and has a beautiful backdrop. In the Walter Presents range

rosegoldwatcher · 15/11/2020 19:11

I have recommended this on many such threads - Bordertown on Netflix. Three series - set in Finland.

So very good.

JengaNonConfirming · 15/11/2020 19:11

Border town, a Finnish drama on Netflix. It's brilliant.

PurpleDaisies · 15/11/2020 19:12

I loved Tabula Rasa. Definitely try that.

Under the Surface is good too, especially the second series.

SeaKingdom · 15/11/2020 19:13

As well as The Killing and Borgen, definitely Spiral.
We also enjoyed Wallander, Beck (more of a traditional mystery a week) Trapped, and Follow The Money

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 15/11/2020 19:13

If you don’t mind a film, try In Order of Disappearance.

rosegoldwatcher · 15/11/2020 19:14

@Svelteinmydreams - thanks for the heads up. I have seen Vanished By... and Killer By...

Will investigate Fear On the Lake tout suite!

MotherForker · 15/11/2020 19:14

Borgen and the Killing.

There are quite a few in Channel 4 catch up too, in the Walter presents series. Greyzone is one I enjoyed and The truth will out.

Defenbaker · 15/11/2020 19:17

OP, I'm also enjoying The Bridge - it's brilliant. Currently they are showing the 4th series on BBC 4 - so if you have just tuned into that, maybe consider watching the first 3 series on iPlayer, because they are best watched in sequence.

The original Swedish version of Wallander is also excellent. Actually there are two different Swedish versions, with different actors playing the title role - I don't remember their names but the more mature actor of the two is absolutely superb. (I didn't like the English version with Kenneth Branagh though.)

Svelteinmydreams · 15/11/2020 19:17

@rosegoldwatcher 😁Welcome

kennelmaid · 15/11/2020 19:19

A good thriller I really enjoyed is Twin, a Norwegian drama. On Netflix I think, but could also be Amazon or BBCiplayer.

Madbengalmum · 15/11/2020 19:19

Bridge
Spirale - my personal fave
Beck
Borgen
All good though.

kennelmaid · 15/11/2020 19:21

@Defenbaker

Agree about Wallander - Krister Henriksson is the actor I liked in the role of Kurt.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 15/11/2020 19:21

On BBC iplayer, "Twin" - Norwegian, modern day, two adult twin brothers, (played by one actor), and what happens when one dies in an accident. Lots of tension, great scenery.

Intrigued by mentions of "Bordertown", thanks.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 15/11/2020 19:24

Oops, sorry kennelmaid, didn't see you had recommended 'Twin' just now!

Madbengalmum · 15/11/2020 19:26

Not so bothered about Twin.

Witnesses- A frozen death is very good too.

Madbengalmum · 15/11/2020 19:28

Spirale is the best of the lot apart from The Bridge. Brilliant cast.

Thereluctantstepmother · 15/11/2020 19:29

So jealous that you have t watched The Bridge in full yet. You won’t be disappointed!

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 15/11/2020 19:32

I second Trapped (Iceland) and Follow the Money (Denmark). I think there are 2 series of each. FTM was especially good, IMO

If you want some sunshine to contrast with the Scandinavian gloom, try Mystery Road (Australia) . Second series features Sofia Helin from The Bridge (She's also in a 1970s spy series set in East & West Berlin - Ch4).

Madbengalmum · 15/11/2020 19:33

Icouldhave, yes, I remember follow the money was good too.

Brot64 · 15/11/2020 19:38

There are a few on Walter presents, all 4. Not Scandi but Dutch on same platform, The Twelve very, very good!
