Now we've overcome our dislike of subtitles, we've just enjoyed DNA and are enjoying 'The Bridge'. That'll keep us going for a while yet I know but while I'm thinking about it thought I'd ask for other recommendations. Particularly crime dramas/thrillers.
We have Netflix and Prime as well as the usual catch up.
Thanks!

@Tonightstheteriyakichicken - re Bordertown - have you tried listening to it in Finnish, with subtitles? I don't get along with dubbed versions due to the very flatness/bad voice over acting of many.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 21/11/2020 13:15

No I hadn't thought to see if I could do that Blush good idea.
I have no trouble usually with watching with subtitles and was surprised they had dubbed it. It is a bit clunky isn't it?

Lampan · 21/11/2020 13:19

How has only one person mentioned Deadwind? It’s SO GOOD.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/11/2020 13:21

I never watch anything dubbed, it's awful, even wen you don't understand the language, you get so much more from listening to it in the original and watching the subtitles.

We generally watch something while eating dinner so on nights we are watching something with subtitles I have to make something that doesn't need to much looking at and cutting so we don't miss anything :)

KittyMcKitty · 21/11/2020 14:04

I can’t watched anything dubbed either - I’ve always found you can switch to subtitles.

Just finished S2 of Trapped- possibly more harrowing then S1 but just brilliant.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 21/11/2020 15:05

@rosegoldwatcher adjusted, and much better, thanks. Smile

Reminder to all you lovers of a serial killer in an icy landscape that The Valhalla Murders (Brot) begins this evening - 9pm on BBC4.

thekingfisher · 21/11/2020 15:35

we loved Gasmammam (sp?) good thriller/crime but involving a family so less dark and gritty than some. WE binged the 1st series and there are 3 series so it makes me happy we have them in the bag to watch !

Looking forward to this.
Ellapaella · 21/11/2020 21:22

Haven't rtft but Twin on BBC IPlayer was fantastic, really enjoyed that

Trekkerbabe · 21/11/2020 21:24

Seaside Hotel on Ch4. It's not scandi noir but its brilliant. In danish.

midsomermurderess · 21/11/2020 22:21

Isn't Gasmammam a remake of the Dutch series Black Widow? I really enjoyed that until the cartel moved into Amsterdam.

I watched episodes 1&2 last night - very frustrated I have to wait a week for another episode!

I enjoyed it - e2 more so the e1 and whilst it wasn’t as instantly engaging as some it looks promising.

What did everyone else think?

Sooverthemill · 22/11/2020 11:55

@KittyMcKitty that's why we save them all to watch over a few night! Can't stand waiting a week ( I can't remember what happened if I try)

randomer · 22/11/2020 19:00

re Trapped....the snowman scene . Say no more.

rosegoldwatcher · 22/11/2020 19:12

I watched Valhalla episodes 1 and 2 today.

Impressed so far. Refreshing to see that the male cop is the one with suspected personality disorder instead of the female (Bridge/Killing etc.)
Loving the scenery.

KittyMcKitty · 22/11/2020 19:58

Haha I know what you mean rosegold there were a refreshing number of female characters too (and in important roles) S2 of trapped was also great for women in positions of seniority.

In the Bridge’s defence it was difficult to find someone who wasn’t somewhat flawed - in many ways Saga was the least flawed Smile

rosegoldwatcher · 22/11/2020 20:26

Possible spoiler if you haven't yet seen The Bridge 4.

@KittyMcKittyitty - I watched The Bridge 4 (for the 3rd time) this week - Saga's thawed and true self came through at the very last moment of the series when she kissed Henrik and then threw her badge into the sea. (Weepy rose!)

I will ever love that character.

KittyMcKitty · 22/11/2020 20:37

I adore Saga everything about her! Henrik really irritated me for ages but I think that might have been because I loved Martin.

I also adore Andri (and Aesgir) in trapped. Was nice to see Bjarne Henriksen who played Brik Larsen in The Killing and Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir who was Halla in Woman at War (fabulous must see film) also in Trapped.

RalphtheMouth · 23/11/2020 12:01

The Out-laws from Walters Presents is excellent, not a thriller as such but really good.

ooh not sure havent got that far yet !
randomer · 23/11/2020 15:43

I don't like tubbies but I love Martin and Andri....how can such a thing be?

*lighthearted comment from tubby

Joswis · 23/11/2020 15:53

Not crime or thriller, but Danish series Rita is great! It's on Wlext.is. Make sure you pick the one with subtitles!

Joswis · 23/11/2020 15:54

Order, Spiral (French). Crime/thriller. Think it's on Bflix.to
