Thanks to MissMarplesHandbag for the "Just the one . . . "inspiration for the thread title, and to whichever wonderful soul suggested "The Numbfaces" as a description for his harem.

Only metaphorical cake I'm afraid. If I kept cake or biscuits in the house as well as wine I'd be in deep doodoo sizewise.
Although there might have been ice cream.
So far I've resisted the temptation to find out who ends up with who, if indeed anyone actually does.

awaynboilyurheid · 30/08/2020 20:36

Troy acts like he learned how to be human from a book. It’s like he has got to chapter 5 , the romance section in which it states try saying sweetie a lot and touch her hair! He creeps me out!
No wonder Ashley has gone off him, it’s time for her to leave because he isn’t capable of changing and she knows it.
I feel so sad for Gabrielle, she’s blaming herself but Nasar will never fancy her, he’s gay but won’t admit it .
Thank god Ryan isn’t being taken in, DaviNA chatting to his parents as if everything was fine was awful. So glad Ryan told his Dad the truth. Did anyone else notice when she “cries“ there’s never any real tears. Also she liked his farm and probs could kick herself now, she would have put his Mum and Dad in a home and be moving in before he knew where he was!

YourVagesty · 30/08/2020 21:21

@Awaynboilyurheid

I agree, he's not human. In fact, I think I've found his dating profile Shock

Did you all know this programme is fake? This season is so outrageous I did a bit of googling and some contestants are picked up by scouts for the show, they’re not even interested in getting married. Ruined it for me, I’m out!

Honeyroar · 30/08/2020 21:40

Yes we’ve pretty much guessed it’s fake. It’s the same format/issues as last series. But it’s addictive!

Honeyroar · 30/08/2020 21:41

I think Troy is actually a Martian!

Benjispruce2 · 30/08/2020 21:44

Oh I know it’s addictive. I knew the marriages weren’t real but I did think the contestants had really applied though and were looking for love. I’m as big a mug as Tracey!

Yes - I noticed the "tears" started the moment she was opposed, and dried up the moment she seemed to be getting her own way. Strange that.

And acting like nothing had happened - even when the two of them were alone together - ignoring the fact that Ryan could barely stand to be on the same continent as her and acting like everything in the garden was lovely was just so gaslighting and downright repellent.

That's upset me, too - I knew it was fake, but I didn't realise that people were approached to be part of the madness.

However - I'm still going to watch it because it's just so compelling (but I will feel very dirty . . .)

Relieved Ryan is not taken in. He was so kind not to embarrass his parents by blurting out the truth in front of them. I think it was all about sparing their feelings and telling his dad was so kind. Dad will tell mum and then the person who truly looks like a git is Davina!

I was so wrong about her. I thought she was genuine. I was taken in by her looks and missed all the signs! Lucky I am happily married and not a dating show, I'd be a disaster!

I think Troy has ADHD and
/or ASD. Sorry if this sounds priggish but I'm not comfortable with all the jokes about him as ASD or ASC as some prefer to call it (my child is the spectrum) is a disability.

Either that or he has a real case of being raised in a boys public school and no idea how to be around women.

Ashley needs to kick him to the curb. I'm sorry but I really do think a wife/husband swap with Carly and Justine would make 4 people less unhappy.

Anyone fancy a UK or USA version to watch an episode a day of together and have a thread on it?

I dont think there have been many "jokes" about Troy - just observations about his awkwardness etc. Nobody is making fun of him, certainly no more so than any other contestants. I'm also sure that if he was, the viewers would know about it or at least it would be hinted at, rather than setting him up as a bit of a bumbling character. Fwiw my son is also ASD and it hasn't crossed my mind that Troy is, I don't think he displays any obvious traits.
RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 31/08/2020 16:28

I agree Spanishfly, I certainly haven’t noticed anyone making fun of ASC/ADHD. Troy’s social awkwardness is very much a Troy-ism whether he’s autistic or not (I also have autistic family and I’m not sure Troy is).

He is very self-absorbed, which I think is a lot of his problem. He struggles to engage with Ashley/women specifically because he’s not actually listening to what they say. He seems to think he can just repeat romantic nonsenses and that’s all that’s needed.

Despite all that, the daft twat has really grown on me. He would drive me up the wall if I was in a relationship with him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t deep-down a lovely bloke who needs a female best mate (not volunteering).

I think a lack of female friends may be part of Troy's problem, I think he's one of those blokes who if you so much as speak to him he'll automatically assume you fancy him and start saying your stunning and gorgeous and trying to get in your knickers 😂

Agreed, I think he's lovely and very likeable. His laugh is infectious. John's laugh is grating on me, though. 🙉
RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 31/08/2020 17:38

John’s mannerisms are hugely irritating. He’s probably a lovely bloke but just no.

I think I’ve learnt that Australian men are mostly unevolved Grin and that’s probably so unfair because it’s more likely that it’s just the men who apply for such things (or are scouted for them) but still!

Benjispruce2 · 31/08/2020 19:24

My girls (16&19) have been watch with me over lockdown and they’re so surprised that Aussie blokes and women for that matter are quite primitive, must be a better more apt word but I think you’ll get what I mean. I don’t think they’d be successful in the Uk dating world. I’m married 24 years so am probably well out of touch but I would have thought mist of those blokes were a NO!

Benjispruce2 · 31/08/2020 19:25

Benjispruce2 · 31/08/2020 19:25

Dean??? Really????

RinderTinderNotRinderGrinder · 31/08/2020 19:27

I know that I wouldn’t look twice at the vast majority of them. I can’t stand performative masculinity - it’s so insecure - or men who see women as a different species.

I guess there’s a reason a lot of these people are single. I just hope all the nice people end up finding someone nice and compatible.

Inmybackyard · 31/08/2020 19:37

Oh god I’m starting to worry that Ryan’s resolve will crack.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/08/2020 19:37

At no time does DaviNA say - "I behaved really badly. I hurt you. I'm sorry. it was a horrible thing to do. I'm ashamed of the way I treated you. If you can bring yourself to forgive, it won't happen again."

She just pretends that nothing is wrong.

(Also, for accuracy, the way to a man's heart is through his ribcage, but that is academic)
