Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

Does anyone know if it's starting tonight or not?

gingercat02 · 10/10/2020 10:26

Pairing show is 17th and first live show 24th I think

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 10:47

Tonight's Best Of The Finals peat

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/10/2020 13:11

Will we get Lisa Snowden's showdance do you think? Grin

Figgygal · 10/10/2020 15:02

It’s the Caroline flack tribute tonight too

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 15:47

Bless you polkadots #neverforget

I will nonetheless die on the hill that Brendan was set up by this being lauded as to what they ought to go for the year before...

but we ended up with Snowdance/Lugging the bacofoil turkey into the oven

It does make me rexamine how well Louis did on his gymtastic freestyle - clearly that's his dayjob - but he handles Flavia very well in the lifts. Understandable as she has a different body to Lisa.

But kudos to James and Denise Van Outen's the same year - I thought theirs was bloody brilliant and the closest I have seen to a more accessible Hanna Kartunnen. I liked Louis but never saw chemistry between him and Flavia and I think Denise was the better dancer had she just owned her talent and experience from the get go. She was 38 here and I find her amazing.

Poor Lisa. Brenda ought to have done a ballroom number instead.
A compare - contrast between Lisa compared with Louis or Denise would be a bit cruel. They might mention gymnastic lift elements though given they were heralded at least on another two occasions. T Brenda had the balls to try and emulate Victor full out. Like Puppetgate it can have its own section as a courageous fail!

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 16:18

A rogue T there, not sure why. I do miss Brendan and James though. I know they were marmite but Tony Beak backchatting doesn't seem the same.
I also felt for him when Dawn French proclaimed (not entirely unfairly) she'd want to dance, not be laughed at and would find it humiliating to be the older woman comedy routine with Anton rather than Aljaz or 'any of the lovely ones'. I find Tony Beak lovely in his own way.
I would actually find it cringier to be paired with a younger one in a cougar stylee, unless it was Jojo - that would be perfect as we'd both fake it til we made it without any of the bullshittery that goes on.
Other Strictly News makes up a sulking female pro who wasn't paired with Nicola and alludes to who the pairing is - I am not surprised and it may work well. Pairings is next Saturday then we can start taking bets. Later x

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 20:49

No mention of John Sergeant, Lisa Riley or Susan Calman in the duffers who might have made the final section?
And no footage of Eastender Chris Parker who was actually a finalist?!
Or Matt di Angelo sitting down in the difficult journey section?! Grin

thefemaleJoshLyman · 10/10/2020 21:14

Why haven't they shown anything of Mark and Karen? Not even the glitterball moment...weird.

Gooseysgirl · 10/10/2020 21:23

Lovely tribute to Caroline Flack

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 21:24

That tribute was beautifully done. And yes, I am crying.

Brieminewine · 10/10/2020 21:24

Oh my lord anyone else in absolute bits watching the Caroline tribute 😭😭😭

pickingdaisies · 10/10/2020 21:32

Joining the thread to say I'm in bits after the tribute to Caroline flack. Just stopped crying, starting again writing this.

moglovesquotes · 10/10/2020 21:46

Me too @SequinsandStiIettos

moglovesquotes · 10/10/2020 21:52

Such a lovely tribute. Such lovely words from Janette.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 10/10/2020 21:55

The Caroline Flack tribute was beautiful.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 22:32

Yes Mog Janette and Frankie were lovely, Janette choked up at one point and Bruno - that was sincere, he's spoken about her before. I hadn't expected it to upset me - I liked her dances but didn't know her - but just seeing how she was glowing and radiant and seeing her Mum in the audience it just got to me.

SequinsandStiIettos · 10/10/2020 22:55

and playing George Ezra's Hold My Girl - the lyrics of that finished me off. See you all next week. Brew Cake

Gooseysgirl · 11/10/2020 00:33

Yes I cried too... it was beautifully done, lovely words from all those who took part.

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2020 08:59

Thank you Sequins and gingercats Grin

.Ref. Louis and Denise. yes Denise was the better dancer BUT she was a ringah, good from the start, Louis wasn't, he really could be observed improving week by week. his final dance was very good. IMO He deserved to win.

I'll watch the Caroline Flack tribute tonight (I record the show, we're an hour ahead here and I get too tired to appreciate it)

With tissues Sad

SoupDragon · 11/10/2020 09:48

I loved how Louis became a dancer. That is what it is all about for me.

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/10/2020 11:48

I also felt for him when Dawn French proclaimed (not entirely unfairly) she'd want to dance, not be laughed at and would find it humiliating to be the older woman comedy routine with Anton rather than Aljaz or 'any of the lovely ones'. I find Tony Beak lovely in his own way.

Was that Dawn French? Didn't Susannah (from Trinny &..) say something similar when she was partenered with him. I felt sorry for her and the cringey routines, as it felt like he had just resigned them to being a comedy act. I think I'd rather be partnered with the likes of Aljaz as I think they'd at least try and make it work.
