Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

There isn't much time before it starts though, he'll have bow out.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2020 10:47

^The singer, aka HRVY, did not have symptoms. But he must stay away from filming and cannot leave his home until next Thursday, October 8.
He will have to quit if he is not able to recover before celebs are paired with pro partners just four days later.^

From the Sun report. There is time but not much. Apparently they are all tested twice a week.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/10/2020 13:33

Just feel like this is going to be a nightmare this year! How many more are going to have to isolate etc? Not sure it was a great idea to go ahead with it..

Figgygal · 02/10/2020 13:52

Same @covetingthepreciousthings I think they should have stood it down this year
As sad as that would be it’s sounding like a cheap imitation anyway

EvilRingahBitch · 02/10/2020 13:52

It’s not a good start is it?
Bake Off managed it perfectly, but they did go the whole hog and isolated everyone completely. This half-way bubble solution may be asking for trouble.

EvilRingahBitch · 02/10/2020 14:21

Though I think the numbers of contestants and shows would give them a 5 contestant final - so that gives them room for three couples to drop out before they really need to panic. In the event that no one drops out they can do a double elimination in QF or SF week.

covetingthepreciousthings · 02/10/2020 18:23

How is it going to work midway through though, if someone comes into contact and has to isolate or has symptoms and has to isolate 3 weeks in.. do they drop out? Or just miss 2 weeks!?

EvilRingahBitch · 02/10/2020 18:31

AFAIK if they get a positive test they’re out - the rule has always been that you can have a bye for one week but no more.
Not sure about isolating for contact - maybe they could cut it short with a negative test?

Article on the BBC today about some of the safety measures being used - quite interesting!

Did anyone watch the 'best of' tonight.

If so who were the pro couples in the virtual group dance? Obvs Alijaz and Jeanette. I presume Oti was with her husband but is he joining this series? Then Joe and Diane and Gorka and Gemma?

SequinsandStiIettos · 03/10/2020 23:35

I still think they should have done Halloween week 2, just toning down the make-up. DWTS just did their Disney week and it was lovely actually - all dances available on youtube DWTS channel - they went less heavy on the make up (apart from Carole Baskin's lion king) and did more with the lighting. I enjoyed it very much. Gleb and Artem below if you miss them.

SequinsandStiIettos · 03/10/2020 23:40

sorry, slightly better quality Artem

SequinsandStiIettos · 03/10/2020 23:52

Yes frank Oti was dancing with Marius Lepure who iirc was going to be a pro in the group dance numbers. The other couples you mentioned danced but also in the outside garden bits you saw Graz with his dancer fiancee Giada Lini and Amy with her dancer fiance Ben Jones.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/10/2020 00:22

I thought Kevin could have done with a shave!

I enjoyed this one again, definitely much better than the first one.

I thought it was a shame Neil didn't get more of a look in, I think all I saw him do was open a fridge?

funtimefrank · 04/10/2020 09:18

Ahhhhh thank you!

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2020 10:29

Yes funtime It was good. I enjoyed the majority of it. (at least the split screens were kept to the minimum, (I really don't 'get' them because you can't see any of them properly) I LOVED Craig showing his tranny side !

That singer in the Rythmn of Life dance was amazing, the dance was fantastic too as were the West Side Story ones.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/10/2020 11:01

I wondered whether Neil didn't have anybody to film him, so was a bit more limited, but then remembered the new girlfriend, so I know.

Graziano has a lovely balcony/terrace. I like seeing bits of their houses!

SequinsandStiIettos · 04/10/2020 11:17

I agree. Neil seemed to have been sidelined a little in that group number...but then I think of poor Nancy, Jojo and Graz in the whole episode. They could have asked Neil and Johannes how it felt seeing Joe do so well as Joseph or lifting him up like a noodle

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/10/2020 11:19

I like seeing bits of their houses!

Yes me too, and love Karen's doggies!

SequinsandStiIettos · 04/10/2020 11:29

It seems so unfair as when they went to the 16? small squares, Neil's dancing his little socks off. I assume new gf with the visa headlines isn't in favour for some reason. Maybe Neil and Nads are on the naughty step this series (I assume Luba got a partner as she went out first and Nads is so tall there weren't enough tall slebs rather than the rumour-mill about her and David James being correct despite the intimate insta photo) but noted that Craig was not asked to comment on Joe McFadden's samba Wink.
I enjoyed musicals week but was surprised there was focus on ones where the contestant went out on that number. I assume because they only had a more limited amount. I thi k I would have liked some back to back comparisons eg the two Oliver numbers with Kellie then Chris then the group no. Also they use so many tracks from the musicals but not in musical week I'd have liked to have seen more than just Nancy's Be Italian. Debbie's is still my favourite week one debut.

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2020 11:43

Yes sequins IMO they haven't given enough thought to these productions at all. It was interesting that the professional stage show actors/dancers really gave a lift to the dances especially the majority of the music. (which definitely needed it Grin )

Figgygal · 04/10/2020 21:03

I felt sorry for Nancy in the multi squared group number her place looked a little less salubrious

Is there another show next week?

SequinsandStiIettos · 04/10/2020 22:10

best of the finals...
so Tom and Camilla, Pasha and Caroline and Oti and Kelvin.
I didn't appreciate how good Oti's showdance was until I saw tour footage of Kelvin and Janette doing it.

The freestyle I have watched most often actually is Jay and Aliona's.
I know people thought it was understated and lacked the wow factor with still no jive content, but having watched it several times and to different music too, it is timeless and a very classy medley. Jay just dances with ease. I loved it. I also loved Ashley and Pasha's and Debbie's.
I do like a medley so enjoyed LeastWorstMemberOfBlue's too.

If I was in the finals I'd go for a swing number, a bollywood number or a hoe down. The medley route I'd dance to Shake It or Miley's Can't wait to see you again (tango/paso in the verses, pop and latin in the chorus).

For Xmas the Beeb have had people voting on favourite dances so they can announce the UK's favourite routine...but the 25 were a strange mix, not much ballroom and no sign of Sophie's Charleston.
They could easily do a Best of Xmas special with the ones they have had. I liked John Barrowman and Charlie Brooks.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2020 10:30

Oh yes Jay was superb in everything, he was the definition of a ringah but I forgive him Grin Grin I liked his unassuming personality too. I'd like to see all his (and Aliona's of course) dances again.
