Strictly 2020, Bubbles and no Bruno?

I’m not sure if there is a thread already, please direct me to it if there is!

It’s summer which means its the time of year I start musing about which celebs might be up for the glitter ball trophy this year! I was a bit worried we might not be getting a series this year but a quick google reassured me plans are in place.

So it looks like they are hoping for bubbles between the stars and professionals families, possibly weekly CV testing and temp checks. Hair, make up and costume to be done with PPE. Sounds like they could put on a fairly similar show to normal. No audience though, which will be weird. And I guess no gathering of contestants for the scores, which will be weird. Will the whole thing lack atmosphere?

It was Jennifer Saunders with Dawn French on their podcast. They made it very clear where they stood. I am the only person who loved Susannah's samba. Blush She was stitched up as soon as she got that for week one mind - we can't all be Kelvins. Tony Beak/production just went for the comedy samba because it had worked for Ruthie but it was too soon: they should have given it a few years before trying to replicate it again.
To do a routine with any deliberate comic element is actually harder than playing it straight and Ruth really threw herself into it. French and Saunders, by being comediennes, have justifiable fears I guess.
Caroline Quentin did say in her interview if her partner was a worse dancer than she was she'd let him know (!) so hopefully Tony has got Jacqui this year or he's in for a bumpy ride Wink

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2020 09:44

I didn't hear CQ say that Sequins though it's the type of comment I'd expect from her Hmm charming I'm sure. Talk about frightening the pros off !

I wonder if they have the option of refusing a contestant?

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2020 09:46

Katya'd be best, they could frighten each other!!!!!

moglovesquotes · 12/10/2020 09:53

Ruth just exuded joy to me. Susan calman was the same. They loved their partners and were so happy to be there.
Caroline Quentin and anton-I can't see it somehow.

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2020 10:24

Yes moglove I LOVED Susan C. and Kevin they were both fabulous! I'm going to miss Kev and Pasha ( am I right that they're both leaving or have left?).

SequinsandStiIettos · 12/10/2020 21:19

Kev and AJ peat Pash had already gone. CQ said it kind of tongue in cheek in their intro videos on Glitterball twitter. I thought she was good in The Other One recently, it wasn't a flattering part and she did it with gusto. I think Anton will get the MP this year. I don't think he will get CQ, I think she will have asked for someone younger. I am very excited for Saturday.

ppeatfruit · 13/10/2020 09:25

Thanks Sequins I won't miss A.J., but Pashaaaa..... ohohhh I'd forgotten he'd gone to be honest, and Kev. of course. Do you know where they've gone?

moglovesquotes · 13/10/2020 12:53

Kevin went to do a rock musical I think?

moglovesquotes · 13/10/2020 12:54

Dd refuses to watch now pasha has left

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/10/2020 19:42

sequins I thoroughly agree about CQ and her role in the other one. She was hilarious.

ThursdayLastWeek · 13/10/2020 19:43

Kevin did Rock of Ages I think and I mistook his promo picture for a Juliette Lewis.

SequinsandStiIettos · 13/10/2020 22:53

Kev was meant to be starring in Strictly Ballroom as Scott Hastings, his dream role, musical directed by Craig RH. Iirc, this would have been happening now.
I think he was, pre Stacey, becoming a bit jaded with the whole thing (iirc he said she'd made him fall back in love with the show) and he had seen how successful Jo was in musical theatre and wanted to emulate that.
He won't starve - he has a landlord portfolio I think with Tommy from SYTYCD. He is also doing some socially distanced shows with his sister. Plus he has had a podcast Strictly Speaking, which was interesting - am surprised he hasn't brought out a book albeit I know Shirley has one out.
Pash is doing a Here Come The Boys tour from January 2021 and Rachel's on a good screw [joke redacted]
AJ is the one who might feel it the most. Him and Curtis have just had to go down the podcast route. I think they were hoping to do lots of presenting together but not sure how that panned out.

ppeatfruit · 14/10/2020 07:54

Thanks for that Sequins and mogloves oh and Thursday

I remembered that Pash and Rachel are parents now. I bet their baby is a picture!

Pizzaistheanswer · 14/10/2020 10:00

Did I fall asleep and miss a bit of Saturday's episode, but I didn't see Tom and Camilla at all? To paraphase, the late great host "they were my favourites". Did they fall out with the producers or something?

Anyway, I sobbed away to that Caroline tribute. It was beautifully done.

Then turned over to the end of BGT with pros doing a musical medley which set me right off again ...

SequinsandStiIettos · 14/10/2020 13:00

I was surprised at how few showdances they showed pizza and was surprised Tom and Camilla weren't shown as that one was seen as their finest hour. Also upset we didn't see Bacofoil along with the puppets.

Pizzaistheanswer · 14/10/2020 13:45

Yes, I'd have thought they'd have had time to show at least a snippet of all the winners (especially as they managed to show Colin and Erin's showdance, gak). I'll just have to go watch Tom and Camilla on t'Internet again
MoonJelly · 14/10/2020 15:51

I thought it was a pity they didn't have more of the earlier shows in the compilation programmes. I still think Tom and Camilla's show dance was one of the best ever, and I still enjoy watching Austin Healey's jive on YouTube. It would also have made sense to see more of Brendan and Natalie as the very first winners.

MoonJelly · 14/10/2020 15:53

I know Kevin isn't going to starve, but I wonder if he doesn't slightly curse the fact that he didn't delay his exit to the wonders of a theatre career for another year.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/10/2020 18:41

I thought they wouldn't show Tom and Camilla's when they showed Ore's — too similar. I preferred Tom's though.

No sign of Mark and Karen either! Their AT was amazing, but it was in the semifinals.

SequinsandStiIettos · 15/10/2020 00:33

He must do moon surely? I'd be kicking myself! He probably would have had a middler too, having had Anneka last year but then doing well with Alex for two weeks. I'd have loved to have seen him with Clara or Ranvir but then we'd have had to have Johannes or Gorka sitting out again potentially.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/10/2020 09:18

I agree that Kevin and AJ probably wish they'd held out another year now.. what was AJ leaving to do? Was it just a hope for presenting opportunities with Curtis?

Figgygal · 15/10/2020 09:56

I’d completely Forgotten about AJ Confused
I saw him at butlins last summer maybe he and Curtis can get a show and comedy act there

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/10/2020 10:52

I was going to say they could always go and teach in their parents' dance school, but at the minute that isn't really an option.

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2020 09:24

Hooray it's tonight ....tonight Glitterball

The One Show had a nice sportsman JJ on . Yes I was right Katya and the boxer girl are going to be partners !!!!!

That WILL be interesting Grin

billysboy · 17/10/2020 09:28

How long before Katya gets photographed kissing Nicola Adams ??
