I thought I might as well start it. As then I won't have to go searching for the new thread.

I loved Claire's final dress - just the slight pucker but gorgeous- I could actually consider wearing it. And I thought the fit was perfect.
I tagged her early on - she seemed the most technically competent.

Starksforthewin · 25/06/2020 23:08

Well, if seeing only the broadcast show means no opinions matter, then I don’t expect we will be hearing from you again, Soup?

🙄

Of you can't tell the difference between "I think Liz should have been in the final" and"Matt is only there as the token man" then there really is no hope.

Didkdt · 26/06/2020 00:31

I don't think Liz was robbed of a place I think possibly Therese was unfairly deprived of a chance to try again. But Liz had coasted at best but Matt was not much better when push came to shove though he was better. His dress was ok but let's be honest there were a few things the judges could have pointed out but didn't, his bodice pieces had lovely finished but they didn't meet nicely. His hem and waist finishes could have been better.
Nicole's dress wasn't red carpet it was/could be an evening gown but it wasn't red carpet I don't think it was elegant, classic or modern haute couture the question is who decides these things designers or the us the plebs
I imagine the last few months have been hellish for Claire so what ever she can relax with is fair play as far as I'm concerned, whether that's how she lives or what she creates I wish her calm and contented happiness

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/06/2020 07:21

I don't think that technically Matt's dress presented any great challenges other than physically getting a needle through the pleather, or whatever it was. The skirt (which looked amazing - beautiful material) was very simple - it was just the sheer volume which gave is "oomph", and even that a could have been more impressive.

Nicole's was beautiful! I loved the style, textures and the colour was amazing - but although it had impact, the elegance wasn't there in the same way as with Clare's.

Both the women showed more technical skill than Matt did - but all of the garments were lovely to behold.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2020 08:18

Patrick seemed impressed with the binding on the top with the implication that it was tricky. I've no idea - I've never had the need to sew with pleather 😂

I looked at the dresses again on iPlayer and the top of Nicole's feathered bit doesn't look good. Patrick was right to pick upon that.

Chemenger · 26/06/2020 08:26

The feathered part of Nicole’s dress would have looked better with a lining and it was unfinished at the bottom as well as being poorly attached at the top.

MsMarvellous · 26/06/2020 08:36

I think Matt was fine in their in the final. He has made some amazing pieces over the course of the series. They all made lots of mistakes too. Some of Nicole's fabric choices were horrible for example. Claire was often a bit "safe". I thought it was a great final.

And if Joe goes I'll be furious. He is a great presenter. I love him. He really makes the show for me.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2020 08:44

Do they get to keep the garments? I hope Clare fixed the pucker in her friend's dress and she got to keep it. Same for Nicole's dress.

Binglebong · 26/06/2020 09:51

I understand leaving the "pockets" on Nicole's dress but that was likely why it looked like it didn't fit properly- the fabric was being pulled unevenly. So where it was fastened it pulled down and where it wasn't it didn't.

Didkdt · 26/06/2020 10:20

Why does everyone think Joe's going?

Studycast · 26/06/2020 10:22

I hope he isn't! I thought he was really funny (and not at the expense of anyone else which is refreshing).

IntermittentParps · 26/06/2020 10:36

I hate all the "oh, he only got through because he's a man" nonsense. It's rude and unfair.

The judges are the ones who can actually see the garments and aren't relying on edited highlights.
I quite agree, Soup. I'm really not getting some of the negative comments on here about Matt doing drag and it being an 'agenda' Hmm etc. Why shouldn't a sewer be able to sew and make for a male body?

Anyway, I'm pleased Clare won. I think there was very little between them in the made to measure: Nicole's was a beautiful colour and I loved the feathers; Clare's was elegant as hell; Matt's was just glorious. Loved the contrast of leather and gold brocade, and the brocade fabric itself was just sumptuous and wonderful. I could imagine Elizabeth I in it Grin He was nowhere near good enough to win the whole thing, but he's a nice guy and I was very pleased that he went out on such a high.

The 'where are they now' was a bit sobering; Clare and Ali both in their PPE! I can't imagine how busy and stressed they both must be. Love that Mark jacked in the bank and went to work in a music shop. My household all shouted 'Go Mark!' at the telly.

I want more of Esmee's celebrity stories Grin

Roussette · 26/06/2020 10:52

I think Esme has got hidden depths!

IntermittentParps · 26/06/2020 11:00

Roussette, DEFINITELY.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2020 12:19

I was thinking about Matt's red PVC (?) outfit in one of the transformation challenges - the negatives were that "you couldn't wear it because your breasts would fall out". It has only just occurred to me that if his partner wore it there would be no breasts to fall out.

I can't remember what the challenge criteria was now though. Did it specify female?

SoupDragon · 26/06/2020 12:19

@Roussette

I think Esme has got hidden depths!
Absolutely.

I'd like to go out drinking with her 😂

bruffin · 26/06/2020 12:29

I think the main criticism of the red dress was that he didnt use the junk, just the pvc material.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2020 12:35

Ah, yes.

The breast criticisms were on here I think.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 26/06/2020 12:41

And I think the criticisms were really comparing the difference between fitting a dress to a woman's figure versus a man's. Clearly it is easier fitting to a man.

googledontknow · 26/06/2020 12:42

I love it this year.

Hated Claire's final dress, so boring and it did not fit well (pucker and strangely fitted over boob area).

I was team Nicole, but I was disappointed in the top half of her dress, wrong choice of fabric I think, but the colour and her model were fab.

Loved Matts dress, thought I was the most red carpet, I have no problem with his partner modelling it as a don't think he was 'drag' - more fashion/expression.

I'm guessing Claire & Matt had an advantage over Nicole as they don't have children, so they could practice more in between the filming (although I doubt Matt was practicing, probably having fun!)

I bet Claire's mum would be over the moon if Claire met a lovely man and gave her a grandchild!

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 26/06/2020 13:13

Matt's dress was perfectly executed, but required a lot less in terms of technical skill than either Claire or Nicole's.

IntermittentParps · 26/06/2020 13:15

I've no idea why but I've thought for a while that Clare was gay.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2020 13:28

I did too when looking at her Instagram.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 26/06/2020 13:50

I never Insta but have been persuaded to look at her profile, how cute is this women's lib rosette?
