I thought I might as well start it. As then I won't have to go searching for the new thread.

I thought Nicole’s was by far the best fitted skirt, and the hyper-flouncing at the bottom was brilliantly executed. Clare had an uncharacteristic shocker, Mark didn’t even try to fit, Matt’s drooped around the waist, and Liz’s was a bit funny around the waist.

They are an amazingly talented bunch this year though - the quality of those jackets last week and the blouses this week in the pattern challenge were phenomenal.

Next week looks fun - flapper dresses should play to Clare’s strengths.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/06/2020 10:43

Checking in, thanks for the new thread. Smile

Which film reference did Claire make about her flamenco skirt last night? Because it wasn't The Sound of Music, which was what I was expecting.

I think he had the right idea with the scuba. You could have had a pull-on skirt attached to a 'waist corset' and made the fitting a lot easier! Only the corset would need to open, and the stretch fabric would get the right shape over the hips, seat (that tickles me when Patrick says it, Esme just says bottom) and thighs.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/06/2020 10:46

I like the look of next week too. I was given a 20s murder mystery evening kit, so I might be inspired. Although I think lockdown would have to be another three months to give me a chance of actually making one!

Rockandgrohl · 11/06/2020 11:39

I love sewing bee...I cant believe theres only two episodes left either I'm going to miss it it's been a highlight of lockdown! I have got back into sewing over lockdown and have made a couple of things but really need to bite the bullet and buy a printer so I can embrace pdf patterns I think!

pinktaxi · 11/06/2020 11:47

Marking my place. I love Sewing Bee. It's the only think that makes me smile in Lockdown.

Claire. Uncharacteristic blue curtain boo boo.

Nicole very inconsistent. Just think about the bloody fabric!
Liz improving every week
Matt. way too flip flopping. At a massive disadvantage as he really doesn't understand how women's clothing works 🤣

SoupDragon · 11/06/2020 11:52

I really wish the BBC would add the previous series to iPlayer.

MorrisZapp · 11/06/2020 11:55

U ok hun?

Nicole all the way for me. DS said, Claire is young but she looks old, Nicole is older but looks young :) I just love her style and attitude.

I think Claire is Joe's fave.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2020 11:57

I think Claire has a silly sense of humour that matches Joe's.

RiveterRosie · 11/06/2020 11:59

I agree SoupDragon. It would be great to rewatch the previous series, especially in lockdown where I've been searching for feel-good programs to watch.

Roussette · 11/06/2020 12:05

Claire cracks up at Joe's jokes, that's why!

Binglebong · 11/06/2020 13:01

This may be useful - a site trying to sell you the patterns used on Sewing Bee. Hood for having a look even without buying

Binglebong · 11/06/2020 13:05

To be fair to Clare Esme thought the fabric would look good too, until it was made up. Sometimes it really is hard to predict how it will look.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/06/2020 13:09

The skirt was just too loose and baggy though. Also, in the drawing it had more ruffles in different colours, she must have run out of time.

We all have our favourite to win but, in the final, one dodgy decision could mean losing. Think about Ricardo's strange ball gown and there was a man a few series back who made some really peculiar trousers in the final.

LIZS · 11/06/2020 13:15

Thought Clare's blue skirt material was too safe and heavy. It really needed the net to give it shape and lift. I liked Mark's wrap skirt but he should have contrast lined the frill rather than leaving the underside exposed then he might have escaped the criticism of it being too simple.

iklboo · 11/06/2020 13:47

Hididdly Ho everyone. Fell asleep last night and didn't watch it. Will catch up later.

Roussette · 11/06/2020 15:02

I think it was Claire's skirt dragging on the ground that did it for me.

Next week, they talked about 'an out of this world transfomration'... is it going to be a Star Wars costume or something?!
This is just speculation, I know nothing!

Halsall · 11/06/2020 15:07

Mark’s was just a wrap skirt, really. Having said that, I really liked it - but it didn’t meet the challenge. Clare’s fabric choice was waaaaay off-beam. Nicole (who I think is slapdash but has zing) grasped that it was all about theatricality, and in those circs I suspect more is more. Which she supplied.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 11/06/2020 15:08

Flamenco is sexy and dramatic which played to Nicole's strengths. (I bet Nicole is fabulous when she is angry) I liked Liz's too despite the zip. It had drama and flair.

Clare's was unfortunately as sexy as wet lettuce. But terribly polite.

iklboo · 11/06/2020 18:07

I'm not usually a fan of bold patterns but Nicole's skirt was gorgeous.

Frenchfancy · 12/06/2020 06:28

I think Clare's problem in all the challenges is her slightly dodgy taste. She is certainly a good seamstress. Nicole has flair and whilst her style isn't always mine she certainly has style. I don't like African wax print but hwr skirt was great.
Liz is my favourite. But I don't think she has quite the same skill or confidence of the other 2.
Matt struggles with how to fit a women's body.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/06/2020 08:44

I love her style!

SockYarn · 12/06/2020 08:52

Agree that the style of Nicole's was the most "flamenco". Watch any flamenco dancer and she picks up the flounced hem and flicks it around as she stamps her feet. The only thing which was right about Matt's was the colour scheme - and who wants to wear a skirt made from neoprene?

Claire's was all wrong too, the blue jacquard style fabric was a poor choice. Nicole's fabric choice was unconventional but hers was the most flamenco.

They did a similar challenge on the Spanish version of the bee and it was all red and white polka dots, smaller design on the ruffles, black trim, loads of flounce.

SoupDragon · 12/06/2020 09:14

I don't think Clare has "dodgy taste" at all.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 12/06/2020 09:35

Following SoupDragon's shenanigans on the last thread, I was surprised to notice that the actual N word was allowed to stand on the Fawlty towers thread i've been reading this morning. It was in quotation marks but still, that's incongruous. (For anyone that doesn't know what i'm talking about please refer to the last thread, Soupy isn't really incendiary.)

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 12/06/2020 09:39

we saw a flamenco show in Barcelona with two top dancers - the woman kept pinning on more and more bits of what genuinely looked like my granny's curtains, both the fabric ones and the nets. Going by that, I'd say Clare's curtains were pretty authentic Grin.

TBF other flamenco dancers I've seen in more touristy shows have worn more what I'd call "stereotypical" flamenco dresses (the red polka dots ones, or the ones you see on dolls in tourist tat shops)
