I thought I might as well start it. As then I won't have to go searching for the new thread.

This seems DESIGNED for Matt. Like, suspiciously so.

I thought so too - and yet he mucked it up! HAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHA!

Yes Clare is a bit head girl!

Funnily enough DD said "I bet she went to the Chalet School"

Clutterbugsmum · 24/06/2020 22:25

Having said that I am delighted Clare won. She has been my favourite from the start

We were too, she seems so lovely and unassuming. I hope her sewing has given some relief from all the hard work she has been doing.

Clutterbugsmum · 24/06/2020 22:27

*. Do you think she irritates her own mum a little bit for being so darn good at everything? Grin, Yes but I think her mum is very similar in personality.

Stellaris22 · 24/06/2020 22:27

Matts dress would have deserved garment of the week as it was so unique and amazing, but glad Clare won.

It was frustrating watching Nicole sew as she should have known sewing that fabric would break needles, it wasn't finished in my opinion.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 24/06/2020 22:31

Matts dress reminded me too much of Nessa's wedding dress I'm afraid! I'm glad he's working on West End costumes - I can see him doing really theatrical garments.

Claire's was the dress I wanted to wear. Nicole's the one I would like to have been able to wear. It really suited her model.

Oh God yes!!!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/06/2020 22:34

Nicole's model was beautiful! What a stunning girl and she really rocked the dress.

Clare's model had a lovely face and figure - but ws what I would call a "handsome" woman - beautiful bone structure - she was scared stiff, though - very self-conscious, poor girl!

Matt's b/f had lovely eyes - but looked better without all of his slap. The material in the skirt of the dress was gorgeous! Wasn't a catwalk dress though - no woman could wear that, and no man would.

deste · 24/06/2020 22:38

Really liked Claire but I thought Nicole chose really unusual combinations that were really striking all the way through. Claire did produce beautifully sewn garments but so did Nicole.

I really liked Matts dress, I thought it was great but it was Claire’s kilt that won it for her, it certainly wasn’t the red dress. The hem was a mess and she had a pucker on the front neck.

I’m going to miss this programme though.

I agree. They look like a great pair!

Just watched the updates on iPlayer as I was interrupted by DS1 wanting to be let in. (I told him off). A lovely set of updates there. Love that Mark is no longer a banker - it seemed a poor fit!

SoupDragon · 24/06/2020 22:40

and no man would.

Well, at least one would! And all his like-minded friends 😂

mouldygrapes · 24/06/2020 22:44

In this episode, I have come to the conclusion that Clare is much younger than my original impressions.

She’s the same age as Liz! www.instagram.com/p/CBoNiyFAZ3j/?igshid=fpout7dqof3u

I’m thrilled Clare won, the best sewist IMO. I loved Nicole’s style and flair but her technical skills weren’t a match for Clare’s

LittleMissNaice · 24/06/2020 22:50

@Binglebong

BIG praise from Liz - not her usual style at all.

There is a guy, can't remember his name, who wears strange dresses on the red carpet. Not drag, just expanding what men wear. I could see Matt designing for him and doing very well.

Billy Porter?
bruffin · 24/06/2020 22:50

Clare is 37

dillite · 24/06/2020 22:56

She's only 37!?! I honestly thought she was good 10 years older. I can believe Liz being in late 30's but not Clare.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 24/06/2020 23:09

37 is pretty much exactly where I would have put Clare. I don't think she looks older, she just dresses older.

riotlady · 24/06/2020 23:18

Funny I thought Thérèse and Nicole were both in their 50s but Nicole is 42 and Thérèse is 63! Her skin looks great.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/06/2020 23:21

It's funny, because we've seen a lot of her, but I don't think I know what Claire 'really' looks like. I just can't imagine her with her hair in a ponytail, in jeans and a sweatshirt!

I really like some of her style, but it does feel a bit more 'costume-y'.

SoupDragon · 24/06/2020 23:24

Funnily enough, I wondered that about Claire too.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 24/06/2020 23:27

So pleased Clare won.l loved the whole show but she just felt lovely and genuinely a good, technical sewer with solid skills.

What do we do on a Wednesday night now? Sad. This got me through lockdown.

LadyEloise · 24/06/2020 23:41

That was a super series.
It was close between Clare and Nicole.
Clare was steady and serious ( although that dress with the hoops was great ) while Nicole had flair and exuberance.
Wineto next year.

NoProblem123 · 24/06/2020 23:42

Yep Claire for me from the start and I actually thought she was younger but just tried to look older. I loved her look, and not at all costumey.
What am I going to do on a Weds now !!

Binglebong · 25/06/2020 00:18

Thank you LittleMiss, it was of course Billy Porter. I knew that perfectly well but my mind went blank. I'm sure I've seen a few pics of him in dresses but this is my favourite one - he really rocks it.

On her Instagram there are pictures of her out walking, in normal Outdoor gear.

She possibly never dresses like that. After all, women in the 1940s wore 1940s clothes all the time, so why shouldn’t Claire? She probably got into sewing because there were not enough clothes in her style available off the peg to give her a full daily wardrobe.

She reminds me a bit of Saleha, the doctor who won Masterchef the year before last- like Claire, a hobbyist who trounced a bunch of competitors who were keen to make a career of the skill. Must be a bit galling for them. Though I guess Nicole already has a successful creative business that is bound to get a boost from this.

I thought that Nicole’s shaping of her dress was fabulous. The back was so well sewn and the model looked stunning in it. I don’t think Matt should be criticised for making something that would not have fitted a woman, the brief was made to measure and that’s exactly what he did. Though I was thinking about Drag Race when watching this and I am fairly sure that all the contestants on that had fake breasts i.e. true drag does involve mimicking the female form. I wonder what Michelle Visage would say about a flat-chested costume on that?
To me, Matt’s dress was gender-fluid high fashion and I liked that better than if he had gone for classic drag.

Talking of Drag Race, the contestants in that do some of their own sewing if there is a sewing challenge that week, but they also clearly have teams of people behind the scenes designing and making their costumes for the non-sewing challenges. I think that they choose their own teams rather than the programme providing them. Wonder if there is a role for Matt in hooking up (professionally) with a Drag Race hopeful next year? Greg seemed sweet but not a big enough personality to do well in it.

Limer · 25/06/2020 13:15

Clare was a deserving winner! What a talent!

Her eyes reminded me of a young Margaret Thatcher - a very intense and piercing gaze. That's a compliment btw.
