It does all sound very stressful - fortunately I’ve not got much experience of nine year old girls Grin. I can’t imagine there’ll be much lingering in the playground if/when schools reopen.

Poor DS1 is still finishing his degree - having to do group presentations, editing things, uploading things, doing voiceovers etc - the technology would completely defeat me never mind doing the actual work!

PrivateSpidey · 12/05/2020 10:47

That sounds really demanding Fizzy although I know the youngsters mostly find technology easy to use etc. It still adds an extra layer of - well, annoyance to the whole thing.

I'm the same with uploading the schoolwork Raahh - I have to re-watch the explanatory video every time I try to do it Grin

I agree also re going back to school/routine is going to be v difficult in many ways. It's bad enough after the summer holidays usually Hmm

Good plan re the scones Fizzy. There's a scone thread running on MN at the moment Grin I think it's in Chat.

Am just going to take a photo of the recipe I use - it's in ye olde recipe book Grin

Fizzywinegum · 12/05/2020 10:53

I have had a quick look at the scone thread Spidey - it makes them sound really difficult to make! Grin

Looking forward to seeing ye olde scone recipe - there’s no rush - thank you Smile

Adding an extra layer of annoyance is a good description!

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2020 11:11

I started reading from the end of the thread and thought the extra layer of annoyance was being added to the scones Grin

I love this picture of a woman who is doing doggy daycare for frontline workers in Dublin.

Grin

DD1 is the scone maker in our house- well, technically they are more like rock buns, but I prefer them that way (it's the way my mother does them). My mother has no recipe, she just chucks things in the mixer and it works every time. DD does do them by hand though.

She uses a recipe from school- it is about the only decent, edible thing they have ever made in 'food tech' lessons, that isn't just assembling pre-cooked ingredients because they don't have time for anything else. Hmm. (Food tech? Grin Still cracks me up).

Raahh · 12/05/2020 11:22

Awww, doggies Grin.

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2020 11:29

Raahh something for you to look forward to. I haven't a clue how they'll manage to film it though!

Oh, you can't beat a good Melissa Joan Hart Christmas Film.

It's time the Hallmark channel started the Christmas films up again. I mean, it's May already. I think. No-one knows what day it is anyway. it might as well be December Grin.

Raahh · 12/05/2020 11:38

And Mario Lopez never looks any different!

PrivateSpidey · 12/05/2020 11:40

AC Slater Grin

PrivateSpidey · 12/05/2020 11:49

The Christmas film sounds great. I agree they might as well start showing them now. And I love the dog photo Grin

Here's the scone recipe Fizzy - pretty basic. I usually put a squeeze of lemon juice into the milk as this does something good apparently - helps the rise or something. And don't forget the secret ingredient - a good layer of annoyance Grin

Fizzywinegum · 12/05/2020 12:19

Thanks Spidey - I’m sure it won’t be difficult to add an extra layer of annoyance Grin

Fizzywinegum · 12/05/2020 17:34

The scones turned out well Spidey thank you - they had a good rise so the lemon juice truck must work (along with the special secret ingredient Wink)

PrivateSpidey · 12/05/2020 18:15

Grin glad to hear it Fizzy!

Now I feel like making some scones as well. I seem to have polished off the VE Day batch entirely by myself!! I was thinking of some cherry ones, but I haven't been able to get glace cherries for ages Hmm Another random lockdown shortage ingredient. Will have to think of something else.

Anyway. I see the Tennis Podcast are doing an interview with Chris Evert - or they've done it, I think, but it's not been broadcast yet. Another one of my childhood heroes! Looking forward to that.

Tennis player Instagram live chats seem to have dried up a bit recently. Although I think Andy Murray is supposed to be chatting to Nick Kyrgios soon, or have I imagined that? Anyway I think I'm washing my hair that day Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 12/05/2020 18:44

Mmm cherry scones sound good!

They do seem to have peaked a bit too early with the Tennis insta chats - the Rafa one still makes me laugh Grin. I think I would give anything with Kyrgios in a miss.

The Chris Evert interview should be interesting Spidey. I’ve been listening to the podcast about the worst Grand Slam finals - it made me a bit depressed tbh. The Cilic/Federer Wimbledon final was quite high up Sad

Raahh · 12/05/2020 19:00

Poor MarinSad. That was a sad final to watch. He redeemed himself in Melbourne by pushing Fed a bit further- and I think he would have had a chance- without the roof Hmm.

I was thinking of all the tennis players (like Marin) who have new babies though- they are probably really wanting to be playing- but I bet they are loving getting to spend this extra time with their dc that they might not have been able to do. (There was a lovely picture of him the other day on the ATP site- his baby looked tiny - but that's probably because Marin is not a small bloke). Grin

Raahh · 12/05/2020 19:01

Cherry scones are the best- when I worked at JL, a cherry scone for breakfast on my Saturday morning break was the highlight of my week Grin.

Fizzywinegum · 12/05/2020 19:09

I’m not keen on sultanas so cherry scones for breakfast sounds good to me Raahh - mine are just plain.

Yes it must be quite nice for the tennis players with new babies being able to spend more time with them - I’ll check out Marin’s baby Smile

kazzaD66 · 12/05/2020 19:33

I'm sorry, but I hate cherries! Private I have some glace cherries left over from making last year's Christmas cake - still in date. I'll courier them over to you, if you want Wink

I still need to watch Rafa's chat with Andy and Rog. I'm so behind on watching anything. When the weather is so good, I'm not going to spend it in front of a tv!

Went for another walk this morning. The tenth consecutive day I've done this, and I definitely am not so out of breath going up the steep hills around us anymore. So, trying to find a positive out of all this madness, I'm definitely aerobically fitter than I have been for a while. And I also did 45 minutes of Pilates today HaloGrin

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2020 20:03

They're making scones on the bake-off repeat.

Raahh · 12/05/2020 20:12

Jane That's a coincidence!

A lovely thing happened today- DD2 got a postcard from the leaders of her Brownie pack, which I thought was a really nice thing for them to do. One of the leaders was ill for about about 3 weeks before they decided to stop meetings (not CV related- at least, we don't think so!) so meetings have been stopped for ages.

The post card had a picture of penguins- who are very much not socially distancing. Grin

JaneJeffer · 12/05/2020 20:17

Aww that's nice Raahh. Little things like that can be so cheering. The government said ages ago they were given two prepaid postcards to every household to send to whoever you liked but we didn't get them!

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 12/05/2020 20:21

Good on you kazza. It definitely makes me feel better to get out, even though walks round here are fairly unexciting.

Thanks for the offer of cherries Grin I think you should keep them for this year's Christmas cake though, I'm sure they'll last, they're pretty indestructible!

I listened to the podcast about the worst finals Fizzy, it was sad wasn't it? I agreed with most of the ones they chose.

I think the worst I've seen was Hewitt v Nalbandian at Wimbledon - in 2002 was it? Such a bad final, so boring.

Although Graf-Zveroneva Shock 6-0, 6-0 at RG must have been a shocker. Steffi always played quickly anyway didn't she, but less than an hour?! Blimey.

I agree re the Cilic-Fed final as well. I'm so glad they mentioned Marin's reaction and Piers Morgan criticising him for crying Hmm it really irritated me to think that's how a lot of people will see him (Cilic) as a result. He just couldn't do himself justice in that final at all, it still makes me quite upset to think about it!!

But yes Raahh, it must be lovely for him, Andy, other tennis playing parents to spend more time with their little ones. So that's one good thing.

Raahh · 12/05/2020 20:29

Blisters are a bugger - I mean, if you are meant to be on your feet then of course blisters are going to be the absolute worst thing to happen. But people think they are nothing. It was so, so sad. I think Marin would have had a good chance otherwise.

But you know. Wimbledon. Roger.

Sue already had her Ro8er T-Shirt under her jacket...
