The Premier League is back this evening 16 matches in 32 days! I need to start a good book.

Tell me about it Jane - it’s on here already Sad

I’m not really sure about the US Open going ahead - it’s only a few months away and the US had (still has?) so many cases. I also don't see how it could work if some of the players eg Rafa and Novak choose not to play - I think they might as well just start again next year.

I’m wondering how golf is working out - has there been a European/US split does anyone know?

Maybe all tournaments should take place in Serbia - everything looked OK there although I’m intrigued about the semi naked nightclubs - was Boris there? Grin (BB not BJ!)

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2020 18:05

I think Ernests would like that nightclub too Grin

So we have pretend crowd noise on the footie!

Grin

I'm really surprised about the ATP announcement. Do you think they are just hoping things will be ok by then? Confused Surely it's the travel that's the main issue.

I don't know what to make of it either, I sort of feel they should wait until things can be run as usual... But who knows when that might be, so maybe they just have to make these decisions now?? I don't know.

I heard Serena said she plans to play the US Open.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 18:39

The night club would definitely suit our Boris from the sound of thing Grin.

In all the fun over the weekend, I missed the other tennis event that was going on, over at Patrick M's gaff ,with Stefanos and whole bunch of others. From the pictures, it looked a bit less crowded than the Serbian event Grin.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 18:41

Pretend crowd noise just makes me laugh, it's like the fake crowds superimposed on the stands.

What if they make the wrong noises at the wrong time?

PrivateSpidey · 17/06/2020 19:12

The so called Ultimate Tennis Showdown you mean Raahh? Hmm It looked a bit bonkers to me, you could get extra points for saying you were going to serve an ace and then actually doing it? Or something.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 19:17

Private I did not understand the rules - it did seem a bit odd. Grin

Fizzywinegum · 17/06/2020 19:21

Oh I don’t like the sound of that Spidey!

We’ve tried footy with and without the crowd sound effects. I think with is definitely better - it just sounds so echoey and weird without.

It is just general crowd noise though - it would be much harder to do crowd noise for tennis especially at Wimbledon when the crowd is so quiet. The US Open might not be such a problem as it’s a bit more rowdy there - they could also pump out hotdog smells for real authenticity Grin

Raahh · 17/06/2020 20:00

Anyway- I know it is Wednesday today, because it is Repair Shop/Sewing Bee Wednesday.

I've go this Lockdown thing sussed.

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2020 20:45

You're not fooling us Raahh - you only know when it's Wednesday Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 17/06/2020 20:58

Jane you are so right.

Yup. basically, I have alcohol.

And it is Wednesday.

(It took me a while to type that).

Grin
PrivateSpidey · 17/06/2020 22:45

Grin the only booze we have in at the mo is rosé which I like but it's not the right weather (thunderstorms). I thought there was some gin left but it's mysteriously disappeared (unless I already drank it myself?!) Grin

Hope Repair Shop was good. I think I'll have to admit defeat on the Bee - I've missed too many episodes.

Raahh · 18/06/2020 08:16

I failed to stay awake to the end of Sewing Bee. Again. Might have been the vodka, or the fact I had been up since 4am. It gives me something to watch later.

Spidey rosé is definitely not for drinking during storms. It is for hot afternoons, in the garden. Preferably with a BBQ (that someone else is in charge of, obviously, or it could get a bit dangerous) Grin.

I am battling with trying to find age-appropriate stuff about river pollution for DD2. She won't be interested, and I will give up. I am a total luddite when it comes to schooling, always have been- I like books- I find it really frustrating to find the right stuff on the internet, that my dc can use, that doesn't end up sounding like they copied it from Wikipedia. Our local library is not stunning, but it comes in useful sometimes. I am really missing it at the moment. (Although I think we have lost the library cards again).

I'm trying to work out if the next leg of Djok's Covid Adria Tour is this weekend. I wonder if the criticism of the crowds from last week, will affect how it goes ahead?

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2020 08:31

Raahh just had a quick google - have you looked at the Young Peoples Trust for the Environment website? If I was home schooling I would probably do all the work because I’m a bit of a girly swot Grin

I’m also missing the library - I’m having to buy books Shock. I managed to get quite a few books the day before libraries closed and they’re not due back until August - at the time that seemed mad but not so much now - I’m now surrounded by piles of library books Hmm

It’s definitely not rose weather here - it’s pissing it down! Definitely red wine and log fire weather (with a nice fisherman’s jumper!)

Who knows what’s going on with Novak’s Covid Cup!

PrivateSpidey · 18/06/2020 08:57

Yes I know what you mean about books Raahh - I think DS takes after my luddite ways as he always prints out his school work rather than read it on the screen. He's been doing topic stuff using an actual atlas this week which has been great!

I've got a few kindle bargains during lockdown but I like having some paper books to read as well. Book shops are open here now but I don't know about libraries? Ours gives out mini cards that you can attach to your key ring so you don't lose it - an excellent idea!

I'm not sure about all these tournaments going on. I think Thiem said he would play in the lead up tournament for the US Open (ie what would have been Cincinnati). I don't understand why they've moved that to NY but left Washington in Washington? Confused I don't know. I'm just glad I don't have to make these decisions!

Yes bring me some red wine and a log fire - and Delpo in a fisherman's jumper!

Raahh · 18/06/2020 10:02

Fizzy that is my problem- I end up doing most of the actual work, and then 'adapting' it so it looks like DD2 did itBlush. Which defeats the object. I will check out the website. I am not feeling the love for school this morningGrin

Spidey a key fob for the library would be great. I can't tell you how many cards we have lost Blush.

I am a bit rubbish at taking books back though. DS was the worst, he had a book out, on my card, for school- and it cost me £20 in fines when he eventually took it back!

JaneJeffer · 18/06/2020 10:57

Our libraries are open but you have to ring up and tell them what books you'd like and they'll get them ready to collect. Going for a browse is my favourite part! I haven't returned the last lot I took out in February and the website wasn't working so I couldn't renew them. Luckily library fines were abolished here in 2019 but I still feel guilty if I'm late returning my books.

I am so over this rain. Grin. Don't know what it is like in London, but if it is anything like up here, there is every possibility Queen's would have been a washout. Which makes me feel a bit better that it isn't onGrin.

(Someone will now tell me there is a heat wave in West Kensington Grin).

I keep taking the dog out for walks though. Grin

JaneJeffer · 19/06/2020 20:02

It's been a nice day here but we have days of rain on the way apparently Sad

I survived the supermarket today. I think I need that on a T-shirt. Can't find Worcester sauce for the last few weeks. I don't know whether to blame Brexit or Covid.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 20/06/2020 11:43

I still feel a sense of relief when I’ve done the weekly shop Jane - there seems to have been a shortage of tomato ketchup in the shop that I go to for the last few weeks - I’m sure most things can be blamed on Brexit or Corona virus!

It seems to have stopped raining here for now - the last few days have been non stop with a few torrential downpours and thunderstorms. I’d planted some lettuces in containers and I think they’ve drowned Sad

My DM said that Judy Murray is on Celebrity Masterchef starting soon - should be interesting. We need something to watch as it’s the last Sewing Bee on Wednesday and then we’ll never know what day it is ever again Grin

Hope everyone is OK and has a good day.

Raahh · 20/06/2020 11:54

Morning Fizzy

I am deciding whether to watch the next installment of the Adria tour- or whether it will make me crossGrin. Cilic is playing this week. It's in Croatia.

kazzaD66 · 20/06/2020 11:57

Good luck in trying to dry out your lettuces fizzy !

Yes, I think Celebrity Masterchef starts next month. There seem to be a few more contestants I actually recognise this year Grin I like it but really cannot abide the gurning greengrocer Angry

There's a programme on tomorrow on Andy - King of Queen's, BBC2 4pm. Looking forward to that Smile

Fizzywinegum · 20/06/2020 12:16

I didn’t really enjoy the tennis last week Raahh - after the initial novelty it just made me want to watch proper tennis!

I’m with you there on the gurning greengrocer kazza Grin. That Programme about Andy sounds good. Is the Jamie Murray tournament starting soon? I keep forgetting when it’s supposed to be on.

I suppose we’ve also got the BBCs Wimbledon fortnight to look forward to whatever that might involve. Looking forward to seeing Sue getting nervous whenever Boris starts talking - hoping that he’s not going to swear or say something controversial Grin

Raahh · 20/06/2020 12:23

Fizzy I enjoyed the chat on here, more than the tennis, I thinkGrin. I got increasingly irritated by the lack of safety and social distancing Grin.

Dh and I are deciding whether or not we should go to M and S- out of sheer boredom, really. I last went in the middle of March for some t-shirts for the girls in the sale, just before everywhere shut. It is next to a big Tesco, though, which is the one near my mum. She said it was chaos yesterday- there was no queue, they were just letting everyone pile in. I might give it a miss.
