Ah I'm sorry I missed that, it sounds like it was really good. I enjoyed yesterday a lot. Well done Dom Grin

Raahh · 14/06/2020 21:22

I would have liked him to get a chance to beat Novak in the final- he probably would have had a good chance, too.

QuiQuaiQuod · 15/06/2020 19:24

Not able to read all posts so excuse me if soeones mentioned the following alreadfy!

This Novak tourney- theres a crowd there. no social distancing- is this now or from last year or something?

If its now then whats the beef about (social disatancing) SD at Wimbly/US open etc?

And personally I don't see why they cant fill at least half a stadium, with maybe every 3 rows apart, and every 3 seats apart? Doesn't meake sense otherwise, the players like and need the sound of the crowd and the support.

Missing French open so much! and the grass courts. strawberries and cream don't taste the same with out them Sad

Is Wimbledon actually open though for the public, as in the museum/café/guided tours, does anyone know?

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2020 19:32

Looking at the crowds on Oxford Street today I don't see why Wimbledon can't go ahead too!

Qui Hello!

No, believe it or not, this Adria tour (there are 2 more legs , over the next weekends- one, in Montenegro has been cancelled) was actually on this weekend. Live. Complete with ball kids, towels, line judges, hugging at the net, no social distancing or masks.

We have been commentating on this thread , open mouthed Grin.

Granted, the Balkans have had low cases/deaths, but even so.

I really missed the French Open Sad. I can't really see it going ahead this year, I think it will be optimistic. The Novak tournament only featured 8 players and at least half of them were Serbs. There's been a lot of talk about the US Open (for financial reason, they are desperate to go ahead). A lot of players are against it- and it's in New York- where there have been how many cases??!

It was lovely to watch some live tennis, but I am not sure we will see a bit tourmant before the Australian Open.

happy to be proved wrong though!

Raahh · 15/06/2020 19:34

Jane I know- bonkers, isn't it? Although I don't know if the players would want to then stay here for an extended 2 week 'quarantine' break afterwards.

PrivateSpidey · 15/06/2020 20:58

Hi Qui I feel your pain! Pointless strawberries and cream, I know exactly what you mean Sad. I saw a "fantasy" Queens tournament on twitter today (an imaginary draw of players past and present, vote for who you think would have beaten who etc) and it just made me so depressed!!

I know what you mean about crowds and why can't they have social distancing within the stadium etc, but I guess the main problem is players having to travel?

I was reading the US Open is planning to go ahead in some form.

Has anyone seen any of this bonkers "ultimate tennis showdown"? Hmm Even the name annoys me. They've got some daft scoring system and you can get extra points for doing stuff like saying you will hit an ace and then actually doing it Confused

I've no idea what it's about.

PrivateSpidey · 15/06/2020 21:00

PS I was thinking about the Wimbledon museum as well, I have been but it was ages ago (about 15 years ago). If it reopened it would be great to go. Although it might just make me miss tennis even more! Sad

magimedi · 15/06/2020 22:03

Queens should have started today.............. love that one.

Life has been very irritating chez moi the last couple of days. All small things - buggered kitchen tap, buggered printer etc etc - but enough of them to mount up & make me very X!!

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2020 23:29

I'm on the Coronacoaster as well. I've been feeling very weepy the past week like I was the first week after the schools closed. I don't really know why. Maybe because things are starting to get back to normal except it's not really normal like before.

Jane Bear sorry to hear this. I know what you mean though. It's such a surreal experience isn't it. I hope you are ok.

magi sorry to hear about the pesky household appliances! Hope they can be sorted soon.

Flowers everyone

magimedi · 16/06/2020 07:14

Jane - Coronacoaster sums it all up. Hope you start to go 'up' very soon.

Fizzywinegum · 16/06/2020 09:27

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon Flowers

I think you’re right Jane - it sort of feels as if things are getting back to normal but they’re not - I was a bit Shock at all those people so excited to queue outside Primark for hours yesterday - it will be a long time before I go to a non essential shop I think.

Although I’ve just done my weekly shop and it wasn’t that busy - maybe everyone was queuing outside Primark!

Sorry to hear about the household niggles magi - I can usually cope with one thing going wrong but anymore than that can tip me over the edge.

Wish we could all be watching Queens to take our minds off things - can’t believe we’re in the middle of June already! I think we should crack open the Pimms and the strawberries and cream to cheer ourselves up Smile

Raahh · 16/06/2020 09:47

Ugh. Dd1's form teacher is calling today. She can explain to him why she has done so little, because I done with fighting with her about it. She is usuallt a decent student in school- but this whole situation is not good for her at all, and she just won't engage with working at home.

DD2 is not much better, but I'm not so bothered about her- most of what she is doing, will be gone over again at some point anyway. But dd1 starts her GCSE courses in September (in theory!) and 2 subjects are new to her (and me!) so that will be fun if she is not back in school properly by then- I really hope they are!

Raahh · 16/06/2020 09:47

Can I open my Fake Aldi Pimms now?

Fizzywinegum · 16/06/2020 10:12

I don’t see why not Raahh - never too early for fake Pimms Grin

Good luck with the school thing - it must be so difficult for most parents and children. At least that’s one thing I don’t have to deal with - I’m sure I would have had a real battle with DS2 - it was difficult enough just getting him to do his homework Hmm

PrivateSpidey · 16/06/2020 17:54

Hope the school phone call went ok Raahh. DS hasn't much motivation at the moment. Just trying to get him doing other stuff that's vaguely educational (eg cooking). However I still have to make my own scones - unacceptable!!

I was just reading that NYC Governor Cuomo has approved US Open going ahead (presume with no fans?).

I wonder what players will go? Could be a bit strange... but will still watch, obviously. It still feels like a long way off though.

They are going to hold the "Cincinnati" tournament there as well, beforehand.

Raahh · 16/06/2020 17:59

Private DD1 managed to pull the wool over her teachers eyes, and convince him she is a model pupil, by the sound of things Hmm.

She has no conscience, that one.

He will be calling again next week.

I am in two minds as to whether the US Open going ahead is a good thing. I mean, I want to watch tennis, but not just because. It would be nice if a complete unknown won some money out of it going ahead though- that would shake things up. I just can't see some of the big names taking the risk.

PrivateSpidey · 16/06/2020 18:05

Yes especially if they do go ahead with RG in September. I wonder if players will choose one or the other? Depending on what travel/quarantine situations etc are like by then?

Raahh · 16/06/2020 18:08

That will be the big question- travel across Europe, no air travel (a lot of the top players have bases in Europe anyway), or risk going to the US?

Raahh · 16/06/2020 18:14

Of course, Djok, Thiem etc might not be playing anywhere if it turns out they were not as safe as they thought in BelgradeGrin. They were partying in a 'semi naked' night club (according to the Dail Mail). Covid is definitely not an issue any more in Serbia, it seems!

Raahh · 17/06/2020 16:26

I've just seen on FB, that the ATP tour is to re-start from the 14th August- beginning in Washinington, then CIncinnati, US Open, then movin to Kitzbuhel on Sept 8th, followed by Madrid, Rome and then RG on the 27th of September.

I really don't know. I have a feeling this may split the players - those that stay and play the North American swing, and those that stay around Europe. And it all depends on the famous 'second wave' that keeps being threatened- we don't know yet if/when/ who could be hit with cases later in the year.

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2020 16:54

That's a lot of travelling! I don't know where Kitzbuhel is? I would not fancy going to the US so soon. The virus is rampant there.

OP posts:
Raahh · 17/06/2020 17:14

I think Kitzbuhel is in Austria?

It is a lot of travelling, it is going from one extreme to another.

Raahh · 17/06/2020 17:17

(I mean, it would be happening under normal circumstances- they would have gone from Tokyo at the beginning of August, onto Canada, then Cincy, I suppose, before the US open then not much of a gap before moving Beijing etc.

It just doesn't seem right , after the last 3 months. It's funny how quickly things become 'normal'.
