Starts tonight. Looks good

When two sides of Glasgow collide when a teenage girl makes a pack with a wealthy couple

Dan and Emily live in a stunning house by the edge of a lake and have everything they ever dreamed of

Apart from a child

Years of struggling and many failed ivf

Kaya has no money or job but offers to be their surrogate

It’s quickly becomes apparent that the baby pact has a destructive effect .......

I watched last night, and my overriding impression is that Kaya's a bit of a lowlife.

Medievalist · 13/04/2020 12:04

What has her mum done to provoke such extreme reactions from Kaya

I'm guessing Kaya had a chaotic upbringing and her mum was abusive. Certainly the flashback seemed to suggest that.

And child murderers usually do come from a background of abuse and neglect.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/04/2020 12:15

For some reason I thought Emily would realise Dan was a bit of a shit and end up leaving him to raise the baby with Kaya, in a non-lesbian sense!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2020 12:29

I know of a lady in uk who was a surrogate to gay men

She didn’t get paid but for expenses

There are tons of boards for surrogates in UK

When Kaya's Mum went to see her (and she rang the alarm button to evict her) she said something like She called me Heather

The Mum is SO on the make , "Here's my reciept ( expenses) for the train, taxi, a sandwich and 2 cups of tea . I don't want to be out of pocket" . So visiting her daughter is something she should be re-imbursed for . She plans to screw them for every penny .

Emily did the £20,000 transfer for the DNA consent then waved the screen briefly . Could've moved the money from Dan+Emily account to Emily account , not Kaya , she signed straight away .

I lived in Glasgow for 3 years in the late 80s , I'm between "Oh that's changed" to "Oh I recognise that"

The new site for the flats is the old Glasgow Barrowlands ?

Yes blonde but Kaya always wanted €50k to do it & that wasn't possible (in the UK). They'd tried it with Dan's sister and that had failed, hence Kaya's offer & that's where it took off.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/04/2020 13:39

£50k that should be, not €

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2020 13:54

Kaya wanted the £50k to set up her own business ( she wanted to be an Entrepreneur) , Dan would've processed this as a Business Loan ( but lax on paying back if it's his company money so no-one else to answer to) and expenses covered when she lived with them . Food, clothes, accomodation, phone, personal items, the odd cash gift .

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/04/2020 14:26

Can someone remind me, was it kayas egg or Emily’s? Is the baby genetically Kayas and dans?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/04/2020 14:30

The baby was meant to be genetically Dan and Emily’s- the clinic implanted the wrong embryo, genetic parents are unknown. Kaya is the birth mother but in the U.K. carries all the legal rights.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2020 14:34

The implanted embryo ( well the intended one ) was Dan&Emilys , it was their last one and his sister wasn't prepared to try surrogacy again.

She said something like she was just growing it or similar . Genetically not hers but legally hers because she's the Birth Mother .

But ..............we don't know if she was pregnant by Doddie before or if it was a completely different embryo.

What are the chances of a fertilized embryo surviving being taken out of storage and transported .
Maybe the Clinic abroad knew the failure rate was high but had donated embryo (like when people donate eggs to offset cost) and used one so the end result was A Baby .

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/04/2020 14:34

Forget that I’m just watching last nights episode!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/04/2020 14:35

Thanks for replies.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2020 14:36

a fertilized embryo wrong term there - embryo or fertilised egg

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2020 14:38

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

I have known a couple transfer their embryo abroad frozen in chill
Pack

Tho it failed

Suprised they don’t fly to clinic and ask what the fuck happened

I missed the £50k ask by kaya. When was that

I think the storyline about Emily and her friend dying because she gave her the pills is to show that even nice well educated middle class people can, inadvertently cause someone's death. It will depend it bit on how the murder Kaya was convicted of, actually happened.

For the first time I was actually engaged with the series given all the plot twists. And the social worker "bending the rules" because his own situation with his wife and child, and trying to survive on low wages again is about the narrow line between those who take decisions and those who suffer as the results of the decisions. ie in another life he could be the one with a social worker tutting over how he looks after the child whose mother has walked out.

Mix up of embryos to happen.

And surely it is a state of Kaya's desperation from having wanted nothing to do with her mother now turns to her as all the support she thought she had have all let her down.

What a shit storm. Sad

Dont trust her mum and in think the actress playing the part, despite what others have said, is more than a bit hammy!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2020 14:49

Episode One - ( I binged watched this on Fri so I'm only just catching up with this series)
IIRC Dan was looking at Surrogates and mentioned some womens' names , their fees were £50k so Kaya decided that's what she wanted once she'd realised how desperate Emily was .

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/04/2020 14:57

Wow what an ending. Last one tonight?

horsemadgal · 13/04/2020 15:14

Yes, last one. Can't wait.

LunchBoxPolice · 13/04/2020 15:19

I’m really enjoying this drama, but I find Emily’s acting very underwhelming.

LillianGish · 13/04/2020 15:56

Is it really that easy to adopt a baby? Kaya - who isn't even the baby's genetic mother - says "I want these people to have it" and that's it? Or am I just being too picky? Amazing plot twist that they'd implanted the wrong embryo. No-one guessed that! Nothing will surprise me in the final epsisode!

purpleme12 · 13/04/2020 16:11

I'm guessing they'd have to go through the usual adoption process, just this time with a view to adopting that particular child. I'm guessing that's what Emily was referring to when she said it could take ages and Kaya could change her mind, because the adoption process takes ages

Ginger1982 · 13/04/2020 16:29

If the baby isn't Dan and Emily's and Kaya isn't going to give it to them as things currently stand, are they entitled to their money back?

RJnomore1 · 13/04/2020 16:44

I’m not sure but I think what happens is the baby is Dans so he is put on the birth certificate, takes parental responsibility and over time the birth mother renounces hers and the bio mum adopts? In the case where it’s their embryo obviously.

buytheworldacoke · 13/04/2020 16:45

Glad I have this thread to read while I watch... there's a lot happening! One question... why is there a close up of the envelope with the DNA results showing the company? I wonder if as someone said the results have been altered.
