Changed the name of this thread as we were very upset with the ending of series 3 out in Bangladesh! Waiting out for news of series 4 and hoping it might not be long now. In the meantime, we are reviewing the seven series of Soldier Soldier.

Totally agree that it's needed. We could see it was inevitable and who would want to swap places with Boris just now? Love him or hate him, he's probably having more sleepless nights than us.

My postman was telling me about a seaside resort about 15 miles away where the front was packed like a bank holiday weekend yesterday. Another friend lives in the Lakes and has said the same thing. How stupid are these people? If a lockdown is what it takes to get through to these idiots, then so be it.

Some nice eye candy will hopefully let us forget it all for an hour tomorrow.

Every time I hear of the army being called to assist, I can’t help thinking ‘Oh, please God, no, don’t send Georgie! 😬

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 10:52

That made me laugh eejit because when I've heard about the army being on standby to help, I keep hoping they look like CJ or Elvis. (I am taking it seriously, truly I am).

Evening all, well I must admit with the current news, I've had images of Georgie in Bangladesh with that Cholera outbreak in my mind. I know Georgie isn't the luckiest of medics and perhaps we would be wary if she happened to be real, but this is definitely a time for the army to show their skill and tenacity and I'm glad of their involvement, so good luck to them all.

I saw a post on twitter from TG saying it's 7 years to the day that the very first Our Girl pilot went out. I can remember watching it two or three times on iplayer and being delighted when I saw a full series had been made - perhaps I just sensed a little bit of magic in the making. Who would have thought we'd still be keeping the thread alive on here six years from the start of that first series.

I reckon TG could get a record audience for this series - a quirk of fate which will see all forms of streaming and TV getting huge audiences. Perhaps it will make some interested enough to go back to the start and rediscover the gem of series one. Ah well, looking forward to something new.

Take care everyone, keep your distance, stay safe and stay home - will share impressions with everyone on here at 10am - not long now!

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 20:18

There's been all sorts on the television, radio and on social media about now that we are all in a lockdown situation, we can for instance watch a film with a group of friends, each in our own homes and do a running commentary. It made me smile because of course we've been doing this with both OG and Soldier, Soldier for years!

OP posts:
eejittwo · 24/03/2020 20:45

How very true, ilove.

Rhubarb01 · 24/03/2020 20:47

They've clearly never seen the TV Addicts page on MN ilove, but yes, we've definitely been pioneers of the watchalong in our own undervalued way. Once we finish OG and Soldier, Soldier we'll have to find something else to keep us amused, especially if another series of OG is commissioned and we have to wait another year.

I meant 10 pm of course, earlier - couldn't wait until tomorrow to pass comment.

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 20:54

Less than 10 mins to go!

DH can’t bear to watch any more! He started shouting at the screen when the soldiers were mouthing back at the officer, Oliver. That wouldn’t happen, especially not in phase two training.

When Oliver turned up with his trumpet and red trousers...why are the officers in this so stereotypical?

It’s incredibly silly but I’m enjoying it!

eejittwo · 24/03/2020 21:59

Well, well, well! That's what we should have had last time, instead of all that blessed broccoli!

Rhubarb01 · 24/03/2020 22:05

Can't help agreeing eejit - it's as if the last series never happened - thank goodness.

Plombear totally agree that the backchat to the officer and questioning of decisions are not realistic, but it's been a bit of a theme throughout Georgie's story.

What happened to Lulu? How come Marie got married and her little sister wasn't there? Nan was a hoot as ever.

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 22:05

I wasn't too sure of it at first, it seemed a bit .... trying to think of the word .... pedestrian probably. It livened up later on. Not convinced the Lieutenant is going to be a good replacement for CJ (or even Bones) and certainly not for Elvis. He seemed a bit wishy-washy and that daft trumpet thing was a waste of time. How come we've downgraded from a captain in charge of the platoon to a wishy-washy lieutenant?

Lula had about the best line in series 2 - when Elvis and Georgie drove off to the university graduation.

eejittwo · 24/03/2020 22:06

LULU!

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 22:07

Lulu was ace!

OP posts:
eejittwo · 24/03/2020 22:07

Forget the rest of it, the new cast members and such. At long last it was convincing as regards Georgie's memories and flashbacks, PTSD or no PTSD.

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 22:09

Agree with you there eejit.

OP posts:
Magi84 · 24/03/2020 22:10

I'm feeling a little bit meh about it but as Ilove said it did liven up, so let's hope that continues. Not finding the squaddie banter anything like as good as in series 1. We'll see.

Rhubarb01 · 24/03/2020 22:17

The new medic, Mimi reminds me a bit of Molly because she's very green, and there's obviously some kind of back story with her family.

The officer is a bit annoying and immature about his professional relationship with the men under his command. I know that NCO's run the place, but Kingy's attitude borders on insubordinate.

Hands up who thinks the angry, dismissive, American-sounding doctor might be a love interest? Classic first encounter.

Ilovelblue · 24/03/2020 22:18

I'm going to watch it again tomorrow Magi and might get a better feel for it. The chain of command really stood out for me, the Lieutenant (I didn't catch his name unfortunately, one of the reasons I need to watch again) was just a stereotype. Those red trousers when they went out for the night!

OP posts:
Magi84 · 25/03/2020 06:25

Agree will definitely be watching again to get a better hold on names and things. As you say Rhu Kingy was bordering on insubordination. Maybe being promoted to Colour Sergeant has gone to his head a little. Mind you with a bit of a wimpy officer I think (from our great knowledge by watching Soldier Sokdier!) it is often the sergeant who really runs the outfit. I suppose too they had to make Kingy a higher rank than Georgie now that she has been promoted.

Ilovelblue · 25/03/2020 09:17

Talking of promotions, surely Fingers should be a lance corporal at the very least by now?

OP posts:
Magi84 · 25/03/2020 09:43

Yes I think you are right there Ilove. He is definitely the most senior after Kingy in terms of service.nmaybe they thought letting him get married was a big enough change for now!

I have now rewatched on iPlayer and was able to pick up on things better, especially names and nuances of characters. I also think Rhu could be right about a possible romance for Georgie with the American doctor. Maybe a flirtation rather than something serious as she is really grieving Elvis.

You can tell I am doing some serious study here in isolation😇

Rhubarb01 · 26/03/2020 20:13

Just joined in with the round of applause - it was a bit like New Year without the fireworks around here - lots of clapping and saucepans with wooden spoons. Wonder if people will keep it up every night the way they have abroad?

Are we going to do a watchalong of episode 1 tonight? I haven't rewatched since Tuesday, but on reflection I felt it had echoes of series 1, episode 1. Now...I have done two rewatched today but they were Molly's first episode and my favourite of series 2 - episode 2 with Elvis, the boys are back in town and that magnificent, big..watch. Ahhh!
