Virgin River (Netflix)

I have been watching this cheesy, schmaltzy nonsense on Netflix

Nurse moves to the sticks to escape her past

Encounters good looking over helpful barman and busybody locals

Just teetering on the edge of being utterly dreadful Grin

A bit like a soap. Lighthearted froth.

Recommended.

Just finished this - the biggest load of schmaltzy crap ever - I LOVED IT!!

Exactly what I needed to binge in my sick bed. Bring on season 2.

northernstars · 11/04/2020 23:22

Just finished this - 1 episode a day in lockdown - perfect. Definitely reminded me of Northern Exposure though - Joel and Maggie.

SandysMam · 05/12/2020 18:03

Season 2 is out on Netflix now!
I bloody love this, absolutely perfect comfort watching escapism for Covid woes!! Like warm apple pie, really recommend Virgin River to anyone needing to get away from life for a bit!

SandysMam · 05/12/2020 18:05

Not sure if warm apple pie might actually be a sex thing Shock scrap that (or you’ll be disappointed Grin), this is just a really nice trashy show! Martin Henderson is pretty sexy in it though, and the actor who plays Preacher.

youngestisapsycho · 05/12/2020 22:39

I binged season 2 in one day! Hope really annoys me!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/12/2020 22:44

I've been watching this too, really not at all my sort of thing, but I keep watching anyway. I like all the Vancouver countryside. Ian Tracey is in it, only a small part which is a pity as I quite like watching him. I think there's some sort of contractual obligation to give him a bit part in every production filmed in Vancouver as he pops up all over the place.

jay55 · 06/12/2020 00:03

Finished season two too. Not enough episodes.

Melinda is way, way, too good for Jack. His situation is just so messy,

The twin brother thing was a step too soapy for me.

But otherwise I really enjoyed it. Loved the teens getting in trouble and all the townsfolk gossiping about everything.

Sewsosew · 06/12/2020 00:07

It really annoys me and I couldn’t stop watching it. Hairdresser doesn’t even look pregnant so I don’t expect much to happen in series 3.
My theory is hairdresser dies giving birth and Hope and Jack raise the babies together.

Notonthestairs · 06/12/2020 10:06

I'm half way through season 2. What I like is there are so many more outside shots and we get to see more of the town and amazing landscapes (it's not all filmed down one track which how the first season looked!!)

But they've made Hope a little mad and even more insensitive. And I really liked Jack in the first season but not so much this time around. I will finish the season though.

Oxyiz · 06/12/2020 10:39

This is such a rubbish show that I love it. However, this season they've made Hope completely bonkers and seemingly forgotten that she's the flipping Town Mayor. Surely she wouldn't just be wandering around looking for things to do? Or did I miss the part where she stepped down?

Inkanta · 06/12/2020 20:16

I love Virgin River! Great acting too. Have finished Season 2 - bring on Season 3 Smile

Nanny0gg · 06/12/2020 21:27

It's dreadful and I really like it!

BenoneBeauty · 06/12/2020 21:59

Just finished it today - loved it! Love all of them although didn't like what they did to Hope this season - they really made her seem like a mad woman.

Preacher is gorgeous! Love him! Hope Jack is ok and agree with the theory that the mum will die in childbirth and him and Mel will bring up the twins!

doadeer · 06/12/2020 22:36

I love it so much I'm so sad I've watched them, what else can I watch like this?

BenoneBeauty · 06/12/2020 22:38

Sweet Magnolia is good and although not the same as Virgin River, Schitt's Creek is fab!

Inkanta · 07/12/2020 19:35

Yes Hope is a great quirky character and love her relationship with Doc. Quite sweet. He obviously loves her the way she is. She tend to lurch forward for a kiss - a peck on the lips. He's chuckling when she does this - can't tell if it's Doc or Tim Matheson the actor who is amused. She's a good actress - Superman's girlfriend I think back in the day.

felineflutter · 09/12/2020 23:37

This is bloody brilliant! I can't wait to get home from work to watch it. Like being hit over the head by a giant marshmallow. I still have the last episode from series 1 and all of series 2 to watch - yah Grin It will hopefully get me through the next 10 days of rain.

EnPoinsettia · 10/12/2020 15:45

Really liked season 1, couldn’t make it through the first episode of season 2. Scenery still lovely though.

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2020 15:52

I really liked this too.

I think charmaine was threatening jack he wouldn’t be the father so I reckon there’s some angst to come where he considers marrying her to be able to raise his kids.

On a seperate note he is gorgeous....😜

BenoneBeauty · 10/12/2020 21:31

I agree @Bluntness100 or I do also agree with Mel that when he looks at his children and falls in love with them, he'll put Charmaine and the children first.

doadeer · 10/12/2020 21:35

Took me ages to work out he was Mr Darcy in Bridge and Prejudice 🤣

Charmaine started out understanable but I think they've turned her into such a cow! She was vile when they were treating her. Imagine having a nurse look after you in a lovely home all day?!

jay55 · 10/12/2020 22:56

I think being upduffed with twins, dumped and having HG would make almost anyone a bitch.

Dozer · 10/12/2020 23:19

It’s dire! Stereotypingtastic.

Nice scenery though. Would be much better without the violent storylines.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/12/2020 07:01

If Virgin River was a thread on here we’d all be banned for troll hunting.

I’m halfway through the second series and the cheese is strong. Well played Charmaine, she has them all running round her.

isthismylifenow · 12/12/2020 07:55

I have one episode of season 2 left to watch. The first season I binged in one day! It was one of those 'i'm feeling sorry for myself and I'm not getting off the sofa days'. It was the perfect terribly cheesy thing to watch Smile.

Hope is so annoying, and I do cringe each time she and Doc attempt a kiss as it is just so awkward 😂. And how does Mel get on with her day without her hair hanging in her face and being annoying. But Jack and Preacher are wonderful eye candy, so I ignore the God awful acting and enjoy the escapism of it.
