I have been watching this cheesy, schmaltzy nonsense on Netflix

Nurse moves to the sticks to escape her past

Encounters good looking over helpful barman and busybody locals

Just teetering on the edge of being utterly dreadful Grin

A bit like a soap. Lighthearted froth.

Recommended.

I'm quite enjoying this! Won't read the whole thread yet as I've only seen four episodes.

Poppiesway1 · 16/12/2019 22:49

I also binge watched this over the weekend. I didn’t realise there were only about 10 episodes. Wished I’d saved it for a couple of episodes a night during this week! Loved it all.. only started watching it as I liked Riggs in Greys Anatomy.

TerrifiedandWorried · 18/12/2019 18:20

Currently watching while recovering from dental surgery. Awesomely shit. Thanks for the recommendation!

Zojo1970 · 18/12/2019 21:40

Omg it is the same actor - he’s practically playing the same part! Still love it though lol

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 19/12/2019 08:58

New Amsterdam is similarly cheesy.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 19/12/2019 17:53

Loved it and looking forward to series 2. Haven’t see Martin Henderson in anything before and thought he was great in this. Have now downloaded the books.

This is exactly the sort of show that I don’t usually watch and genre of books I don’t normally read - and I’ve loved every single second😀

VanyaHargreeves · 19/12/2019 17:57

I couldn't do New Amsterdam for screaming THIS ISN'T HOW ANYTHING WORKS at it Blush

Really ignores procedures

Grin

I liked New Amsterdam but couldn't get over the fact that the main guy was the doormat teacher in 90210

Virgin River is magnificent in its awfulness. Bloody brilliant.

The peak 'that wouldn't happen' moment has to be the 'mingle' town disco, in which Barry White softly asks a town of rednecks to mingle during a series of copyright free ballads noones heard of.

I particularly liked how Mels final scene was accompanied by six lit candles. I always like to create a homey atmosphere before making huge emotional decisions.

She should be more grateful. Most men would have run off with pregnant Freddie Mercury.

squashyhat · 21/12/2019 17:57

I'm on Ep 6. Given that the reason for Doc employing Mel (however reluctantly) was that he couldn't cope with the workload neither of them seem to darken the doors of the clinic very often. Her special LA skills must work without her actually being present Grin

RingtheBells · 21/12/2019 18:51

I was wondering what to watch next on Netflix, I think this may be it...

BunnytheBlueWhale · 02/01/2020 09:53

I just finished this series and loved it. It reminded me of Hart of Dixie and a show about a male doctor who moved to a small town after his wife died and one of his sons was called Ephraim. I can’t remember what it was call. But all a very similar premise!

Interested to hear Heartland is similar. I just started watching Northern Rescue.

Gilmore Girls was amazing

BunnytheBlueWhale · 02/01/2020 09:56

The TV show I was thinking of is Everwood! Very similar. A New York surgeon moves to Everwood with his kids after losing his wife. I don’t know where it is available but I recommend it!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 02/01/2020 10:00

Chesapeake Shores looks like it could be similar 🤔

Notonthestairs · 02/01/2020 10:25

I loved Virgin River but watched it alone to prevent DS and DH picking it apart. Completely agree there was a severe lack of patients and actual town. Preacher and Jack made up it though. Very excited that they have commissioned a second series - I hope Netflix throw some money at it.

Now watching series 3 of Chesapeake Shores - it would benefit from a lot more plot/action but the houses, people and landscape are so pretty I don't mind. Again making sure I watch it alone.

HeyMac · 02/01/2020 10:55

Me and DH have watched it over the holidays. We call it "Predictable River" but even enjoyed the relaxed viewing Smile

Llareggub · 02/01/2020 12:04

Yes, it reminded me very much of Everwood. I liked that show very much.

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 10/01/2020 14:37

But it is Hart of Dixie! Same doctor, same younger female HCP comes into the practice. There's all sorts of pretty men interested... I'm already 3 episodes in and I only sat down while the floor dried and I could step on it again Grin

BunnytheBlueWhale · 10/01/2020 14:39

It is funny how many times the same storylines are regurgitated

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 10/01/2020 16:10

Same storyline I could expect but the same actor in the same role is a little too far Grin

BunnytheBlueWhale · 10/01/2020 16:17

True!

BrieAndChilli · 10/01/2020 16:37

i love all this sort of shit - its shortened versions of hallmark made for tv movies which i also love!
recently ive watched
Fuller House
When calls the heart
The good witch
Lost in space (not strictly smaltz but its a similar vibe but in space and with more peril!)
i zombie
chesapeake shores
new amsterdam

I've also recently rewatched One tree hill

Letthemysterybe · 10/01/2020 18:12

Oo great this sounds right up my street! My dh hates it if I watch anything decent without him, so I need something crap
to watch on Those occasional nights in alone (or those Days when both the children are in school/nursery and I’m supposed to be tidying the house).

BunnytheBlueWhale · 10/01/2020 18:40

It’s not crap! 😭
