I have been watching this cheesy, schmaltzy nonsense on Netflix

Nurse moves to the sticks to escape her past

Encounters good looking over helpful barman and busybody locals

Just teetering on the edge of being utterly dreadful Grin

A bit like a soap. Lighthearted froth.

Recommended.

I absolutely loved it and I'm glad they are making a second series. I'm off to read the book now

FlashingFedora · 15/12/2019 19:41

I loved it too. Reminded me a bit of northern exposure back in the day. Feel good nonsense Grin.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 19:44

It's hard to describe though isn't it?

Because it is really enjoyable but super cheese and it is just scraping the edges of not being completely dreadful

Strongly reminds me of Gilmore Girls but GG is better written

Very much in the vein of Due South or other cozy small town drama

Hope needed to be told to get to fuck in the last few episodes. What a twat.

Yes! Northern Exposure was the name that wouldn't come to mind!

Really good! Enjoyed the whole season. Love the Doc character -Tim Matheson in particular. He's a great actor.

Llareggub · 15/12/2019 20:20

I’ve binged this all weekend. Terribly, awfully, brilliant.

inthekitchensink · 15/12/2019 20:21

Was he the doctor in hart of Dixie? I feel sure he is... but can’t be arsed to google. Now that was a fine show that needs to come to Netflix. I’m enjoying this show though in small doses, not enough humour to make it bingeworthy like schitts creek, Gilmore girls or heart of Dixie, nor heart warming enough like the good witch. God I need to get a life.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/12/2019 20:22

Same Llareggub Blush

I know Tim Matheson as Hoynes from West Wing.

I can recommend Heartlands on Netflix. 11 seasons of loving and mild peril

MonChatEstMagnifique · 15/12/2019 20:26

I binged watched this last week and really enjoyed it. Easy viewing, and yes it reminded me of Gilmore Girls which I loved. I also watched Chesapeake Shores recently which I found similar, nothing major seems to happen but before you know it you’ve watched hours of it.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 15/12/2019 20:27

I can recommend Heartlands on Netflix.

I’ve watched most of this as well. 🤣

viques · 15/12/2019 20:27

inthekitchen agree with you, I watched the first six or so episodes and found I was fast forwarding as the characters and plots didn't grab me. I loved the characters in Schitts Creek and thought it was original and funny, but thought this was a bit derivative ( who remembers Medicine Woman ?) and rather flat.

mnahmnah · 15/12/2019 20:29

Yes he was also the doctor in Hart of Dixie. And the premise is almost identical. But I loved Hart of Dixie and this is looking promising as a replacement for that and Gilmore Girls!

bluebells1 · 15/12/2019 20:29

I loved it! I also enjoyed the books. Can't wait for season 2

mrscampbellblackagain · 15/12/2019 20:29

I really enjoyed it - watched it whilst illing on the sofa this week. The scenery was stunning.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 15/12/2019 20:31

There’s books of it?

GoGoLego · 15/12/2019 20:32

I finished this this week loved it. Although took a while to get going so the ending was rushed

If any one has a virgin shaped hole in their lives. Can I suggest Chesapeake Shores, The client list and Northern Rescue.

If anyone has any other suggestions like this much appreciated the more god awful the better.

GoGoLego · 15/12/2019 20:34

heartlands is amazing and I want to go to Canada as a result.

Dynasty isn't too bad ether

Inkanta · 15/12/2019 20:35

The books are by Robyn Carr. Clever writer.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 15/12/2019 20:37

Utter rubbish.

Can recommend it.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 15/12/2019 20:39

The books are by Robyn Carr.

I’ll have a look, thanks.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 15/12/2019 20:41

I had a look at the books,

Just how many marines have settled down in Virgin River ? Did the run some advertisement in Marine Monthly?

Still, watchable.

SeaViewBliss · 15/12/2019 20:44

Oh my gosh, so shit but so good!

I can also recommend Chesapeake Shores for similar shitness although it’s a lot more annoying than Virgin River.

Llareggub · 15/12/2019 20:44

Oh yes, Chesapeake Shores. Also wonderfully terrible.

Awrite · 15/12/2019 20:44

I'm on episode 10. Love the Doc.

Hope is Superman's Mum from Smallville.

Really love Preacher. He was in Battlestar Galactica, which is one of my all time favs.

I always love small town America drama. Especially with the emotional songs each episode plays when one of the characters having a flashback. Can't beat it.
