So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

There have been a few stories that have come out from various cast members that indicate they’ve got a tendency to be a bit like that.

They killed off Barristan Selmy’s character because the actor told them that they were writing the character wrong thematically. It was from this that the famous “Themes are from 8th grade book reports” came from.

They made up a character called Orson who was cousin to Jaime and Tyrion. This character spent his life crushing beetles and there was an entire conversation between Jaime and Tyrion about him. This was an insult to Orson Scott Card (writer of Enders Game) who said that the adaptation was just ‘tits and dragons’.

Yes, they have big egos. Yes, they are not alone in their profession.

radioactiveimagination · 15/05/2019 15:39

What happened to Bronn? Where was he and will he show up in the last ep?

Leontine · 15/05/2019 15:43

Apparently Julian Glover wasn’t happy with the way Pycelle was being portrayed and when he asked to he written out they ended up keeping him in the show beyond his character’s death in the books.

It’s now just come out after the last episode that Varys’s actor was upset and thought that he’d done something to offend D&D, so they’ve obviously got form for being arseholes.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 15/05/2019 15:43

It was a bit of an eye opener looking at that Hound/ scene on you tube someone had linked to. The quality of the dialogue has really gone downhill.

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/05/2019 15:50

A friend of a friend told me that they recast one character and they found out from social media. They didn't have the courtesy to tell them they'd been recast before they told their replacement...

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 15:51

TinklyLittleLaugh are you talking about the scene with his trial by Beric Dondarion?

That dialogue came straight from the book.

Sadly, some of his best book lines - when he tells Sansa about how he got his burns and when he tells her “They’re all liars here, and all of them better than you” are given to Littlefinger in the show.

The Hound was actually the first person to teach her how to survive Joffrey/Kings Landing and play ‘the game’.

Sadly show Hound just says ‘f*ck’ a lot (a word he never says once in the book).

I understood that each episode in season 8 had a budget of £80 million, so the stars' pay packets were a drop in the ocean.

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 16:06

millythepink alas, no. The budget was $15 million an episode.

ChipsAreLife · 15/05/2019 16:25

A budget of £80 million would be £640 million for the series!

I tend to think everyone from crew to cast to writers were getting lethargic with it all and want to branch out to new things. Understandable of course but it's resulted in a rush

The article on Julian Glover seems to paint the picture a little differently yes he wanted to go but they didn't make him stay because they are arseholes

pycelle death

I'd be interested to know what Varys said though as I think pretty much everyone expected him to go at the hand of Danny not sure why he would think his death was some kind of punishment?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 15/05/2019 17:07

Varys had to die, so going out in the penultimate episode of the whole thing is hardly a punishment.

Outofinspiration · 15/05/2019 17:09

Was that Daenerys's character? It was originally someone different wasn't it?

Outofinspiration · 15/05/2019 17:11

Remember in the first series when Daenerys was almost constantly naked or topless? 😂 How times have changed on that front!

iklboo · 15/05/2019 17:15

Emilia Clarke put a stop to that in her contract once she got a bit of clout. Grin

NunoGoncalves · 15/05/2019 17:28

This video explained my feelings on Dany's sudden madness quite well. Also the narrator's emotional state is amusing lol.

agirlhasnonameX · 15/05/2019 17:36

What was the context of this? Because his death scene took a very long time to film, he had to keep coming back on set to film his death over and over again, was it not something to do with this?

longtompot · 15/05/2019 17:39

Just a thought on Varys and the poisoning theory. I mentioned it to my ed and she thought it was more he was concerned that Danni wasn't eating or drinking anything and that they would see if she did eat or drink anything later. Not that they were trying to poison her. It felt more like he was worried about her and prob thought he was being executed for treason as in the letters about Jon behing the rightful heir.

I like the pp suggestion that Jon is trialled by fire from Drogon, but survives, so EVERYONE knows about his bloodline. That would make a cool ending.

Leontine · 15/05/2019 17:39

I’ve posted the article above. The context seems to be more to do with how he was underused in the past 2 seasons.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 17:39

The original Daenerys was Tamzin Merchant- I think she’d have been a bit rubbish tbh.

The original Catelyn was Jennifer Ehle, not sure why she was replaced.

Leontine · 15/05/2019 17:41

Was the Twitter thing about Myrcella being recast? I feel like I’ve read something about that.

ElenadeClermont · 15/05/2019 18:04

Rickard Stark was killed in a trial by fire. Not sure if it was cool, Jaime thought it was disturbing.
Jon is not fireproof. He burnt himself at
Castle Black.

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 18:06

NunoGoncalves as much as I like his videos, Quinn does get a bit emiontional about the series. This is not a new thing. After Arya killed the NK he threatened to burn all his GoT DVDs live on air if she also killed Cersei.

If you want to see ‘overinvested in a character’ check out Order of the Greenhand’s reviews for the episode. They are basically 3+ hour rants. They are die-hard Sansa haters and Dany lovers so I don’t need to say much more.

Their comments about Sansa can be truly vile.

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 18:08

Targaryans are definitely not resistant to dragonfire.
