So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

I´m not pleased with Tyrion this season. He has been my favorite character throughout because he is so smart and funny. And now this season, he seems to have become stupid and naive. That isn't the Tyrion of previous seasons.

faelavie · 15/05/2019 10:27

I think this season needed to be a lot longer - actually I think it would've been better to have two seasons, to really explore Dany's descent into "the mad Queen" that we saw in the last episode. Although I think the signs were there from the beginning, I do feel it's a bit hurried now.

Hey ho. For what it's worth I did enjoy the episode. I know a lot of fans are unhappy. But the whole destruction of KL looked epic.
Of course I wish that Dany and Jon ruled together and had little babies and lived happily ever after with Drogon and Ghost by their sides, but this is GoT we're talking about and I think most of us knew that wasn't going to happen 😂

UpToonGirl · 15/05/2019 10:31

Is Jon definitely rheagars son? Lyanna didn't get pregnant to Robert before she eloped? I know bran saw then getting married and it was in the chronicles that he was a targarion but I always wondered as they made such a thing about hair through GOT, lannisters have golden hair, targarions have superblonde hair and baratheons have dark (sometimes curly) hair.

I feel like we are owed a few good twists in last episode.

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 10:39

Yeah he’s definitely Rhaegars son. The Stark genes are strong.

Though GOT grasp on genetics and hereditary features in the first series are legendarily lacking. Grin

GooodMythicalMorning · 15/05/2019 10:39

UpToonGirl maybe its cos of the marrying brothers to sisters that they all had white hair, adding the Stark dark hair to the mix of dna meant he didnt get the trademark white/silver hair. Plus it would have been quite a giveaway at the beginning if he had.

faelavie · 15/05/2019 10:40

@UpToonGirl

I thought about this too, then reasoned that Jon has dark hair because of the Stark blood in him - Lyanna had brown hair. Also Arya has brown hair, her siblings are only redheads because of Catelyn who was a Tully.

Targaryens only seemed to stay white blonde because of their habit of inbreeding.

I don't think there'll be a "Jon is actually Robert's son" twist coming up.

sonjadog · 15/05/2019 10:44

Also if that was the twist, then Bran would truly be completely pointless.

NunoGoncalves · 15/05/2019 10:46

He has been my favorite character throughout because he is so smart and funny. And now this season, he seems to have become stupid and naive. That isn't the Tyrion of previous seasons

GoT character in "acting totally out of character in season 8" shocker.

AnotherEmma · 15/05/2019 10:50

sonjadog
Completely agree with you about Tyrion.

ladymarian · 15/05/2019 11:00

I am just watching for the 2nd time (there's always so much going on this season that I try to watch each episode twice). I can't help thinking that Varys got a bit of a raw deal. When Tyrion and Dany are talking about someone betraying her she says Jon Snow first of all and then they talk about how she knows Jon told Sansa when she begged him not to and Sansa told Tyrion who then told Varys. It seems that she's blaming the last person to find out rather than the one who revealed the secret first! When Jon rejects her he is lucky she didn't kill him then! I do worry what will happen to Jon, Tyrion and Sansa next week! Grey Worm is the only one who hasn't betrayed her. Davos helped Tyrion get Jaime out! I think Jon or Tyrion will have to kill Dany or maybe it will be Brienne protecting Sansa....
Jon or Tyrion

faelavie · 15/05/2019 11:04

@ladymarian I believe it's been said that Varys was trying to poison Daenerys. Hence the scene at the beginning with the kitchen girl who came back to report that she hadn't had any luck because Dany wasn't eating.

UpToonGirl · 15/05/2019 11:07

Yes DH, has already made the argument about the stark blood/hair colour, I'm possibly grasping at straws for some huge twist/shocking moment. I've really enjoyed this this season and loved 'the long night' but I just feel like they are tying things up too quickly/neatly.

Night king, literally king of a dead army, able to raise the dead created thousands (?) Of years ago, despatched in one battle. No bigger picture really looked at.

Cersi, a brilliant mastermind, despicable person with a faithful zombie and zombie maker having no back up plan, just snuffed out with little fan fare. Was she pregnant, didn't look it to me but now we'll never know!

Dorne...

Bran/three eyed raven (yes this one might get wrapped up/explored a bit more).

Really hoping for a fantastic last episode...

ladymarian · 15/05/2019 11:08

Yes I presume she found out about Varys attempting to poison her (it's not clear) otherwise it doesn't make sense! As a previous poster said i wonder how many letters he managed to send and to whom?

UpToonGirl · 15/05/2019 11:11

I think tyrion was so invested in Dani because she's one of the few rulers/want to be rulers who took in him and appreciated and respected him without ever showing him any disgust and he was trying to cling on to that.

DeadWife · 15/05/2019 11:18

Yes agree about the attempted poisoning, I was awake here on the the thread with the night watch and didn't clock it straight away but another poster did, can't remember who now Blush.

I'm so intrigued about Sansa and Tyrion's next moves.

ChipsAreLife · 15/05/2019 11:18

Sorry if this has been mentioned but I've been watching the 'Game revealed' videos on YouTube which shows how all the episodes have been made.

Whatever you think of the storyline it's worth watching to appreciate the time, effort and money that goes into making these episodes. I really enjoyed the one from this week where they showed how they destructed KL.

Anyway back to the storyline... I'm wondering if Yara will rock up at all? And if she does will she side with Dany or Jon?!

millythepink · 15/05/2019 11:19

I believe Targaryen's are guaranteed to inherit the silver hair/violet eyes if both their parents are Targaryen's too?

One thought I have just had, as Dany was burning KL into oblivion most of her troops and Jon etc were already in the city! Did she not care about their safety?

NunoGoncalves · 15/05/2019 11:24

Did she not care about their safety?

No she did not.

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 11:26

Yara’s had more of a relationship with Dany than Jon thus far, though there’s also Theon’s commitment to the Starks to consider.

Why the fuck, btw, was Dany happy to give independence to the Iron islands but not the North? I mean, I know the Iron islands are a dump and all, but the principle of the thing!

Seems like an odd move given her great love of people bending the knee.

ladymarian · 15/05/2019 11:26

millythepink - I thought that too! She had no clue where her men were and carried on Dracarys-ing regardless! Lending weight to the mad queen theory. Her tactics have been woeful in the last few episodes

IHeartArya · 15/05/2019 11:27

Dany is all bend the knee, I’m the rightful ruler. Held Jon prisoner. I was willing Jon to do a reversal & demand she bends the knee as he’s the rightful ruler. She’s not really got the irony of that?

I want Arya to have a happyish ending.

millythepink · 15/05/2019 11:28

It showed Jon and his group having to duck falling masonry and fires, to the point that Jon ordered them to fallback because it was too dangerous to stay in the city.

yumyumpoppycat · 15/05/2019 11:30

When dany's story is written down in synopsis form it doesn't seem a stretch that if she was on a dragon she might burn a city down. When the destruction of KL was being shown I was both surprised and not surprised which is probably how D&D would have wanted it. I think something ever so slightly missed the mark, maybe we needed to see more of her grief at the point of the bell ringing.

DeadWife · 15/05/2019 11:33

If I recall correctly wasn't there a bit of a flirty connection between Yara and Dany when they met?

ChipsAreLife · 15/05/2019 11:37

Yes @DeadWife there was some flirting! Which is why I wonder which way Yara would go.

Agreed @LaurieMarlow but I do think Yara is quite wise and hopefully she will be able to see Dany isn't stable enough for it. I wonder why Dany didn't ask her to come help with the battle of KL too?
