So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

wasn't there a bit of a flirty connection between Yara and Dany

More than a bit.

Given that there are now significant vacancies when it comes to friends/lovers of Dany, Yara is remarkably well equipped to step into the breach.

Cottonwoolmouth · 15/05/2019 11:37

I think Yara will easily side with Danny

Cottonwoolmouth · 15/05/2019 11:38

I think Yara told her she was going back to get the boats to help Danny out

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 11:41

I do think Yara is quite wise and hopefully she will be able to see Dany isn't stable enough for it

Hopefully.

I think the idea was that Yara would defend the iron islands as a retreat point for Dany and co if necessary. Also in case uncle Euron decided to pay a visit.

itswinetime · 15/05/2019 11:42

Yara told Theon she was going back to secure the iron islands for Danny so she had s place of safety if the night king won. I don't think we have heard from her since.

Yara in theory should side with Danny but I don't believe anyone could walk through the ruins of kings landing and think yup she was right!

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 11:43

Also Dany’s just taken out Euron and his fleet which is good news for Yara.

I love how much speculating we’re doing here when there’s a good chance we’ll never see her again.

JasperRising · 15/05/2019 11:53

itswinetime there was a passing comment when they were all stood around planning (maybe in episode 4 rather than 5?) that the new prince of Dorne had declared for Dany and Yara had retaken the Iron Islands. If all the lord's are summoned by Dany after her victory (or if Varys' letters attract their attention) we may see her in the finale.

I am not sure which way I think Yara will go. If Theon was still alive she might have been persuaded to support Sansa and/or Jon but I think Yara on her own will stand by Dany.

noodlenosefraggle · 15/05/2019 11:53

I think a lot of Yara's absence can be explained away by Gemma Whelan being on maternity leave!
I watched the making of.. thing but it still didn't make sense to me. I would have fully expected Cersei to burn KL to the ground because he mad character was more developed. Dany, after she had won going nuts and burning down the city made no narrative sense. She saw the Red Keep, she knew her enemy was in there, but instead of going directly there and burning Cersei to death, she faffs around killing innocent people and putting her troops at risk, leaving plenty of time for Cersei to escape. I suspect it was just a plot point to destroy Jon's faith in Dany and put him on the iron throne but it was lazy, and also not great to see two women rulers both being as mad as each other and the people needing to have a man on the Throne to live in peace. Also, is Cersei definitely dead?

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 11:55

Thinking about next week, I’m guessing that Dany will lose no time in demanding the heads of both Tyrion and Sansa.

I guess Tyrion will be lying low and trying to keep out of her way. Jon will be told to bring Sansa to Kingslanding for Dracarys.

Hopefully Tyrion, Jon and Arya will find each other and hatch a plan to kill Dany. Quite what that looks like I don’t know. Davos should be around too. Presumably the crew still at Winterfell will rush to defend Sansa, led by Brienne.

Where’s Gendry again? And Pod?

AnotherEmma · 15/05/2019 11:57

"it was lazy, and also not great to see two women rulers both being as mad as each other and the people needing to have a man on the Throne to live in peace."

Yep

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 11:58

Next episode I think Yara will turn up with her fleet and Prince Darkstar of Dorne to support Dany.

She will take one look at Kings Landing, think ‘b*gger all this for a lark’ and turn right round and go back.

Her and Darkstar will then have a lovely conversation about how Dornish succession works, and she’ll decide that the weather is far better in Dorne than on the Iron Islands.

The end.

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 11:59

and the people needing to have a man on the Throne to live in peace

Not if Sansa end up ruling

noodlenosefraggle · 15/05/2019 12:03

Sansa wants Jon on the Throne. Sansa doesn't have a claim to the throne, just as warden of the North, so I presume she'd have to kill Jon to take the Throne, Henry Vii style!

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 12:08

I can see Jon renouncing the throne to go do something more worthy up North and bequeathing it to his closest heir, Sansa.

Or a kingsmoot style meeting among the lords paramount to vote on a leader.

I just really can’t see Jon on the throne. I’m not sure why.

M15sterPip · 15/05/2019 12:14

I would like Yara and Arya to get together and sail off into the sunset on mad girl-power adventures. Grin

ChipsAreLife · 15/05/2019 12:15

I think Pod is up North with Brienne? Not sure where Gendry is? Licking his wounds after being turned down maybe.

I hope Dany doesn't go after Sansa but she probably will to force Jon to do something.

On one hand I'm desperate for Monday on the other hand I don't want it to end!

faelavie · 15/05/2019 12:18

@yumyumpoppycat Yep those are my thoughts too. I was also surprised yet not surprised. "I will take what is mine with fire and blood", etc etc. They rushed it but the signs were there.

UpToonGirl · 15/05/2019 12:23

I think there's no way around the fact that Dani will be killed - just have to figure out who!

I'd kind of love it if the end scene was Jon, Sansa, Lara maybe a few others who have even a tenuous link to the iron throne standing around after all the fighting has been concluded and just turning their backs on it and going off to rule wherever they came from (north, Iron Islands etc) as they realise no one 'wins' in the GOT. There's nothing left to rule from the Iron Throne anyway - just ash!

OrianaBanana · 15/05/2019 12:31

Who on earth is left to vote for a ruler and why would that be a legitimate way of deciding. I am not denying they might do it but it would be silly after all this right to rule stuff. There is the random prince of Dorne, Gendry (if he’s still allowed to be Lord of Storm’s End once Dany is dead), Sansa (or Jon), Yara. There is no lord of Highgarden unless Bronn is it which seems silly if the people who promised him that are either dead, on trial or persona non grata. There is Sweetrobin who might turn up, possibly with Random Yohn to advise. OK that’s quite a lot. The Lannister lord of Riverrun presumably is deposed but I guess they might reinstate Useless Edmure.

I imagine the fighting forces and the gentry are decimated, seems odd democratically to elect a king with about 5 people present. To be fair there probably aren’t many people left to rule at this point.

OrianaBanana · 15/05/2019 12:31

Sorry that was a very rambling post

noodlenosefraggle · 15/05/2019 12:34

I thought I saw Gendry among the screaming crowds in KL but then they didn't show him so not sure what happened.
Dany had taken what was hers already though. KL surrendered, she was Queen. She just decided to wreck her own kingdom. If she had gone for Cersei and in the process caused destruction, it would have made more sense.

OrianaBanana · 15/05/2019 12:39

And I think Tyrion is agonner with a Mad Queen post battle, his freeing of Jaime, and his own inability to control his shock and disgust at her actions. Bet you he will tell her she was wrong. If he gets a trial to fill time and add pathos, it will be more than Varys got. In many ways I think that would be more of a climax to the series than Dany’s death (if it happens) - of course he may be saved dramatically at the last minute if D is killed in time.

If D is killed do the Unsullied just follow Grey Worm and whatever he wants to do (which is presumably go to Narth and whatever)? The remaining dothraki might just go off pillaging.

Given that the great Winter is here, a lot of the crops north of the Reach destroyed, the harbour and administrative centre at Kings Landing gone and most men (soldiers and draftees) are now dead, surely the Seven Kingdoms will just starve. How will they feed everyone? Mind you I suppose there are a lot fewer mouths to feed.

Lweji · 15/05/2019 12:40

Sam

The people should vote for Sam.

OrianaBanana · 15/05/2019 12:46

Can’t see him accepting though, and they wouldn’t go for a wildling Queen I don’t think. Still he probably has a really good claim to Highgarden as Tarly’s elder son (and considering we don’t know anyone else from there in the show).

StarbucksSmarterSister · 15/05/2019 12:47

I thought I saw Gendry among the screaming crowds in KL

There was a guy who looked him but he was just a random bloke yelling about his wife.
