So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

Dany appearing on her Dragon singing an adaptation of 'Walk Through The Fire'
Oh now I want to see this and when I re-watch it will definitely be in my head 😂

Dany was a megalomaniac during the whole of season 7.
Yes and I think she's always had a touch of it, almost from the beginning. I think some people wanted to see literal madness, like her talking to herself last episode, or not making sense. Personally, I'm so glad they didn't do this, it would have played out like Arya training specifically to kill NK and then her doing it. I much prefer subtleties than outward or literal examples or hints.
My brother hasn't read the books (sorry not sorry for mentioning the books/whole basis for the show again) and reckons if you're show only it comes out of no where, but I'm pretty sure even if I hadn't read them I'd still see it coming. She's basically just had enough, she's won and it's not enough and I think when in a position of power that's unfortunately very likely to happen. Also depends on whether she is technically mad or overwhelmed with grief and anger. Aenys wanted to burn everything because he thought he could turn into a dragon, that's madness.

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 09:08

I wouldn’t go onto a thread about the Harry Potter movies and write a load of posts about Peeves, or the Moody, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs backstories... because they’re not in the movies!

But plenty of people do. I don’t understand why it’s such a big issue and I think I speak for most of the posters on here.

Seriously, though, start a ‘show only’ thread and then you can discuss it without book references to your heart’s content.

agirlhasnonameX · 15/05/2019 09:09

because the thread is about the TV show, not the books?
Yes and the Tv show is based on the books so 🤷🏻‍♀️ and completely relevant, you can't portray in a show what you can on paper. You could always stop talking about the books if you don't want to talk about them and instead just post about what you do want to discuss....

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 09:09

Those who want a show only thread can go start their own.

RedForShort · 15/05/2019 09:12

It'd be great though if this thread isn't now filled with people telling other people to start their own thread!!

AnotherEmma · 15/05/2019 09:15

I tell you what's more boring than reading about the books when I haven't read them.

A long tedious derail about whether or not people should be "allowed" to mention the books 🙄

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 09:18

I’m interested in Tyrion’s reaction in the next episode. What a low point. He’s backed the wrong horse, all his family are dead, he’s facing certain death, all his plans fucked up beyond belief. Sad

escapade1234 · 15/05/2019 09:21

The thing that bothers me about Tyrion is that he only swore allegiance to Danaerys to get himself out of a very tight spot. I always thought he was supporting her out of self-preservation. But by the last episode we’re supposed to believe he’s had an absolute conversion of faith, when we know the real Tyrion wouldn’t have much truck with her style of leadership. He’s supposed to be the moral heart of the show and yet I really struggle with Dany as a moral figure.

DeadWife · 15/05/2019 09:22

Agree Smile.

Tyrion's position now is so ambiguous. But I think it's meant to be.

But he was all for staying in Pentos and drinking himself to death until Varys told him Dani could be the Queen to change history. I don't think he went to her to save himself, he went because he's politically minded and wanted the wheel of power broken and he genuinely believes she's the one who will do that. That and he wanted to see some dragons.

OneInAMillionYou · 15/05/2019 09:28

I don't have any 'bossy' sense of ownership of this thread, but I did start it for everybody to contribute. I love GoT and love hearing what other fans of the show have to say.

We've happily co existed with a mixture of book and show talk for each thread of the season so far and personally I believe it adds to the richness of the discussion.

I haven't read the books but I really welcome the perspective and additional detail from those who have, I really admire and have respect for, the depth of knowledge on display here.

There have been a few 'book' pages in this thread but they don't dominate and they certainly don't prevent any poster talking about the show.

I mean, what is a thread like

The Nights Watch. GAME OF THRONES. SEASON 8 EPISODE 5. May 13 UK. SPOILERS AFTER 2am.

if it’s not quite clearly just about the TV Show?

Those who want to chat boring irrelevant book shit ad nauseam, go start your own thread. Wang on about the Valonqar to your heart’s content.

agirlhasnonameX · 15/05/2019 09:39

@AngeloMysterioso these threads have been civilised and respectful of everyone's point of view, we've managed to get through five of them without anyone de-railing or complaining about what anyone else is posting. I'm sorry, but you are one duck in a big pond and the majority of people here haven't had any issues and majority wins, so there isn't really much point in ranting on about it, no one is preventing anyone from talking about the show and if you don't want to read about the books, simply don't read those posts.

ElenadeClermont · 15/05/2019 09:41

Well, rumour has it that the ending of the show will be based on GRRM book story. I do not know if this is true though.

OpenMindedSceptic · 15/05/2019 09:41

I love the combination of TV and book chat!

@ElenadeClermont I heard that too. Apparently he's told D&D how he intended the books to end so they could reach that same conclusion. Will be interesting, if we ever get the final books, to see if it's true!

UpToonGirl · 15/05/2019 10:03

I think unfortunately Dani going full mad Queen means the options next episode are fairly obvious (would be really happy be proved wrong and have lots of surprises) it's now dani/dothraki/unsullied against everyone else, Jon/sansa etc. I think would have been more interesting had she only gone half mad Queen and burnt all the soldiers who surrendered and cersi (who surely should have had a more epic death), Jon and tyrion wouldn't have been happy and it would have tipped them away from her claim but burning all kings landing leaves no room for anything other than a total spilt.

I'm not disagreeing with Dani going mad and I do think there was a build up over a couple of seasons but the systematic way she flew over KL burning all the innocents didn't feel authentic.

I know a few people have said it but I feel season could have done with being 10 episodes long.

BlackCatSleeping · 15/05/2019 10:06

I can’t believe that in a few days it will all be over. I am definitely staying away from social media until I’ve watched the entire episode. No spoilers for me!!

I just wonder who will turn up in the final episode. Will we see Daarhio again? How about Edmure? Ghost?

MsMarvellous · 15/05/2019 10:10

So much for Nymeria showing up. If that gets chucked in at the end I'd be surprised. Could fire wolves take down a dragon?

MsMarvellous · 15/05/2019 10:10

#clutching at straws that missing wolves will have purpose#

Giggorata · 15/05/2019 10:10

Yes, even GeoRRge said that.
I love the suggestion that Tyrion was playing a long and dangerous game to keep the Lannisters in power... I hope he is getting the fuck out of KL now, whatever his motives.

BlackCatSleeping · 15/05/2019 10:17

Well, Tyrion has seen plenty of dragons now!

LaurieMarlow · 15/05/2019 10:17

We might see Nymeria. I can see an ending where Arya disappears off onto the wildness with her dire wolf. But D&D clearly don’t dig the wolves, so perhaps unlikely.

It will NEVER HAPPEN but my personal wish would be for Howland Reed to pop up and give us the low down on what happened at the Tower of Joy and what the fuck Rhaegar and Lyanna thought they were up to procreating Jon.

I’m still pissed at how they dropped Meera like a stinky sock, without even a proper goodbye/thank you for dragging Bran the bore miles through the snow and losing her brother in the process.

BlackCatSleeping · 15/05/2019 10:19

Yes! Meera and Howland must come too!

I want all the missing characters to be in the finale.
