So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

As fun as it isn’t reading all the book fans chat about book prophecies and book theories and book characters that have absolutely nothing to do with the TV show...

Any chance you could take them somewhere else? It’s getting kinda boring.

PreseaCombatir · 15/05/2019 06:55

I’m not upset about the valanqar prophecy at all, for 2 reasons.
1 they dropped it from the show, so they decided from the get go that they would change her death.
2 the prophecy said she would have three children, but she had four, then a pregnancy.
She had Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen, also a ‘black haired baby’ that she discussed with both Cat and Robert, and now this pregnancy. That’s 5 children.
The only think show Macy the frog prophecised was plot holes.

Angelo sorry you can't dictate how the discussion goes. Lots of show fans are interested in the book plots.

MsMarvellous · 15/05/2019 07:01

You could read the books @AngeloMysterioso. Given the first few series followed almost religiously it's genuinely interesting and relevant how much things changed once the source material ran out

Leontine · 15/05/2019 07:05

@AngeloMysterio I’m assuming you mean the talk about book Euron vs. show Euron? It’s 100% relevant to the show in this case.

Also you can’t dictate what other people talk about just because you happen to find it boring. How rude!

BlackCatSleeping · 15/05/2019 07:10

More boring book talk, but...

Cersei aborted her first baby. The one she had with Robert. The fan theory is that she lied to Catelyn about how the baby died to gain sympathy. So, she had two babies that died before childbirth and three that were born.

I guess the younger woman who will take all she holds dear was dany.

I think her death will be different in the books.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 07:11

Well, this is a thread about the TV show, not the books... I did start reading book 1 but got bored pretty quickly.
I’m just tired of wasting time reading about Azor Ahai/Valonqar/faegon/ whatever which means less than fuck all to most of us. There is an entire book topic where people could chat book shit til the cows come home!

BlackCatSleeping · 15/05/2019 07:16

I think there's not really a lot else to do until the next episode, so people talk about every little detail as much as they can. GoT is one of the most overanalysed TV shows ever. Every detail has been picked over in minute detail. People also love trying to guess what will happen next in the show. The TV shows are way beyond the books now.

MyOtherProfile · 15/05/2019 07:16

I only read book 1 but I'm finding it really adds something to hear some back stories and missing info from the books.

PreseaCombatir · 15/05/2019 07:38

The fan theory is that she lied to Catelyn about how the baby died to gain sympathy
No, she definitely discussed the baby with Robert. She said to him ‘do you remember our first born, head full of black hair’ etc etc.
In the books, she aborted Roberts babies by drinking moon tea, but shows Cersei definitely had four live births.

IHeartArya · 15/05/2019 07:42

Considering the show wouldn’t exist without the books & GRRM has told D&D how the books will end I think it’s only natural to discuss the books.

As you were.

That’s for the actress that was also in LOD Wink

ThisIsTheEndgame · 15/05/2019 07:42

I like the book chat. If GRRM ever releases the next one, I might re-read from the start.

DH decided to have an early night on Monday instead of watching GoT and tried to persuade me to do the same Shock I have told him that this is an all-musical episode, and that Dany appearing on her Dragon singing an adaptation of 'Walk Through The Fire' from the Buffy musical episode is something special Grin

RedForShort · 15/05/2019 07:54

I've not read all the books so would be a show watcher only, Dany's 'decent' was absolutely earmarked for a long period. If fans view her with blinkers only registering the few true kind acts (breaking chains) then they'll think it out of character. But even her freeing the Unsullied was for her own benefit wasn't it?

Euron, without knowing the book/show difference was by far the poorest character in the show. If you told me the actor was Eddie Izzard pretending to be Russel Brand i would absolutely believe it. (In fact for a while I had to remind myself it wasn't Eddie Izzard playing him.)

RedForShort · 15/05/2019 07:59

I'd love to read the books but I just can't. The combination of the way I read (i have to read all details and read back a lot) and the slow paced hugely detailed writing made reading mind-numbing for me!!!

Might attempt the audio books as I quite liked the above linked reading (I say liked as in listening rather the liking the grim experience described!!)

ElenadeClermont · 15/05/2019 08:03

Sorry to be referring to.the conversation in the evening.
We will not see Dany's descent into madness via her own POV. Kings and Queens lose their POVs.

RedForShort · 15/05/2019 08:13

True. Certainly no POV or thoughts being heard.

We can see that she's always been ruthlessly one tracked minded since she gained a small bit of control and realised she could gain power (and in order to do so, being patriarchal, she needed men to help her, or at least not stop her).

As she gained more power these men started at betray her. Which quite frankly appeared to annoy her (add to that it was Jon who made her sweet she'd draw back out the bells rang (that was Jon wasn't it?? Bit conflicted it was Tyrion). He'd just wronged her by telling all information he'd t's him not to.)

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 08:16

AngeloMysterioso feel free to start your own thread where book discussions are not allowed.

sonjadog · 15/05/2019 08:38

I haven´t and have no plan to read the books, but I think it is interesting to read the discussion about the books and how the adaption to the screen has been.

Leontine · 15/05/2019 08:41

I didn’t know that about the kings and queens losing their POVs! Dany isn’t technically a queen though is she in either the books or tv show, so she shouldn’t lose her POV.

DeadWife · 15/05/2019 08:42

Speak for yourself Angelo, there are very many of us who were into the books before it was even televised. We should we be diverted to a separate thread?

DeadWife · 15/05/2019 08:43

*Why should we

SweetSummerchild · 15/05/2019 08:44

but like most people have said it’s been way too rushed. It’s like they’ve 0 - 50mph in the first 7 seasons, then gone from 50 - 100mph in 5 episodes

I’m sorry, but I disagree. Jet pack travel (Varys went to and from Slavers Bay in two episodes) and plots that moved at 100mph started in the middle of season 6. This is not a ‘recent’ change. I really don’t get why people are only noticing this now.

Dany was a megalomaniac during the whole of season 7. She imprisoned Jon Snow on Dragonstone when he first arrived. How many times did she say ‘I am the rightful queen’ and ‘bend the knee’.

When she burnt the Tarlys she told all the POW ‘join with me and together we will build a better world, or refuse and die’. If this is not a red flag than I don’t know what is. That was season 7 episode 5.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/05/2019 08:52

DeadWife because the thread is about the TV show, not the books? They’re completely separate entities at this point.

I wouldn’t go onto a thread about the Harry Potter movies and write a load of posts about Peeves, or the Moody, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs backstories... because they’re not in the movies!

And others have pointed out, the plot of the TV series moved past the books quite some time ago, so all the book chat is largely irrelevant.

DeadWife · 15/05/2019 09:01

Exactly. So the book fans had no choice but to watch when the books stopped matching the series. You know you can like reading AND watching TV right? They're not mutually exclusive. The plot has obviously moved ahead and changed but the roots of the original houses schemes and themes haven't and that's interesting, references to the books often jog my memory as it's been a while, and are enlightening so I welcome those posters.
